Hi annegr, I,m early today - got the horrors coming for tea. Its a nice day, have only been into town. Did you see the Arriva bus people? asking for our opinions, so I asked why no Whitby bus from redcar, and apparently from feb / march next year there will be! Hoorah. the x4 route is to be extended, sadly no plans for a bus to Lazenby.
R will no doubt get the gossip off her new neighbour on her return.As for vets bills, I daren,t tot up the money the cats I have had over the years have cost me.
Monday at 10 is good, see you then, and just go for it.

Hello, I know you don't read this site on a morning but just in case - I'm going to walk to the Beacon along Majuba Rd. Don't know how long that will take but will give myself plenty of time.
I have had an e mail from R. using her daughter's laptop and address.Got to have her trained up for New Zealand.
Lovely morning but feels a bit chilly so will wear my fleece. Was it nice in Blackpool yesterday?Not a good day here, rather windy, so cut the grass with the grassbox off. The bits all blow away and the mower's lighter! I hope the bits didn't end up on the neighbour's washing, no doubt I will be informed.

Good morning, luckygem. Nice to hear from you. Yes, the Beacon is the new pier.In fact, if you have listened to the news today, we are on the short-list for the Carbuncle prize !!! Awarded for the worst architecture this year.
I am technically incapable of sending a photo, sorry. In fact, Matson and I are off to an internet cafe next week for a spot of further education. The cafe at the Beacon is quite small and we will look out for any lost-looking souls.Don't know what I'll have on yet, I'll let you know when I know the weather.
You will hear from Matson, no doubt, I know she likes to check on the site on an evening and she will be thrilled to see a new name. We wondered if perhaps we were using the wrong deodorant!
Our topics of conversation are wide and never leave much time for food shopping (boring) I hope you keep in touch with us before meeting up in the Beacon. Speak to you again.

Bought a new shaped plantpot today. I use them for little wildlife ponds and the other one was leaking. I thought at first it was a fox drinking out of it (there are foxes on the marshes nearby) but concluded I was wrong.
I cooked carrots a different way today.Don't laugh, I'm serious. I used organic carrots purposely - don't peel, just wash, and steam whole, not chopped or sliced. All the flavour and nutrients are preserved. I should be able to see in the dark pretty well shortly.

You will have heard about our infamous Beacon? It's not that bad really and the view and coffee are lovely.
I'm going to get the hosepipe out now, I love that job! Playing with water.
Have just written a consoling letter to eldest son.He feels awful leaving the job and people he's with for one with more money. At the end of the day, we have to survive financially and the old company have had the benefit of his skills for a while at a low rate of pay.

Thank you for thinking of me, early days yet for the local sites but hopefully will get busier pretty soon.

I love watering the garden too, soothing and satisfying and lots of fun when grandsons join in.

Yes, the carrots are well worth trying like that.They remind me of the allotment I had - straight from the ground, pan to plate.Broad beans are absolutely a feast with a few new potatoes.
I am immersed in The Monk who sold his Ferrari.I have found from personal experience that life is better lived more simply. I shall probably end up walking round the town in my Buddhist robes (because I won't have anything else)

What are you all going to do today? Terrible rain and the storm last night.I don't know if grandson and family went camping, maybe they wouldn't appreciate a mobile phone call if they wanted "to get away from it all."
I've put a loaf of bread in the machine so have to stay in till 11 anyway.The orchid plant is sitting outside having a wash. It's flowered since last October and now gone into hibernation.It deserves some rainwater.
I need to re-read the Monk book, Matson, I don't think I will be passing it on just yet. There's a lot of Buddhist learning involved there. Also great emphasis on meditation. I was talking to a member of the family yesterday who was very concerned over her 50yr old son's pace of life and the demands made upon him by his family. Very much the theme of the book.It's no good giving your all if that's exactly how it turns out to be and it shortens your life.

Hello annegr, its a very thought provoking book, I have read a couple of his books which are much in the same vain, and I think it boils down to - be kind - to yourself and others, life IS to short , take time as you do to appreciate nature, and friends and family. At the end of the day a Ferrari wont listen when your sad! I find each time you read them you take something different from them, I,m pleased you are enjoying it.
It was a monsoon last night no need to water the plants tonight!

Forgot to ask, I was always taught not to use rain water on orchids, so I have always used cooled boiled water, so it obviously doesn,t matter as mine have been in flower for months ,so have you always used rain water? x

Re Orchids. I rarely water them, rain or otherwise.I felt it would be a treat for the plant to get some nutrients (pollution?) It is now back on the kitchen windowledge after experiencing drowning yesterday.I know they don't like the cold because I once tried to over-winter one in the shed and it turned to black mush on it's first night.
I might need to lend the Monk out to my eldest son, he's devastated to find he made a mistake at work which is going to cost the company money to put right.What do you say apart from we are human and don't get everything right all the time. I know he will tear himself apart over it.

Hi Annegr, I hadn,t forgotten, its on my list! I still haven,t looked at the site, hopefully I will have more time when the children return to school. The vintage fair is on this Saturday , in Coatham Memorial Hall, 10 - 4, my eldest granddaughter and I are going for a look.

Yes, the potato famine was around the time that our register records go back to i.e. 1800's. That is why my family still hold on to this fragment of hearsay that the lady on my family tree from Cockermouth was an orphan, her parents died in the famine in Ireland. I have read several books on the subject which disturb me at a deep level. It's as though my genes know of their involvement.
I had a wonderful day out with grandson yesterday, Italian lunch and then beach and then my garden. He loves the novelty of going on the bus as well but not so keen if they happen to be late.Ah, the hard facts of life! Spent 10hrs in bed last night to recover - another hard fact of life.
