I've been reminded that over a month ago I was tentatively suggesting doing something in Edinburgh on Burns Night - or rather Burns Lunchtime, as that gives people longer to get home afterwards.

I think we had four possible expressions of interest at that time - Gally, Marelli, Baubles and me. Anyone else going to join us?

And do we want to have a toast to His Nibs, and to The Lasses and someone reciting the Ode to a Haggis, or just a plate of haggis, neeps and chappit tatties and constant conversation?

The receptionist at the venue I had in mind originally sounded distinctly lukewarm when I did a very preliminary recce - could be because I had no idea of numbers or date or anything. If I get it a bit more concrete I will go back.

granny23 Thank you very much for the Apricot jam it was lovely of you to remember it was my favourite. I have had some on toast for my breakfast...it was delicious... mmmmmmmm smile

wineor2 Well it was your drooling about apricot jam on the thread that prompted me to make a batch to fill the gap in my jam supplies left by the poor crop of plums. Such a warm, pleasant way to spend a dreich winter afternoon. Now inspired to make marmalade this week as stock running low.

How's your snow today? Beautiful sunny day here today but I am content to stay close to home after yesterday's adventure. It WAS worth it though. Meet-ups are so special smile I have a warm glow about me today - like they have in readybreak adverts.

I'm chuffed to hear that the Burns gathering was a huge success. Many thanks for the thoughtful texts. I was with you all in spirit and can well imagine that Elegran's house "rocked" with laughter and noisy blethering. grin
I awoke in the early hours and thought to myself...go stand in the naughty corner for a wee while. Isn't it crazy to think that, in a dream-like state, I remembered misspelling consolation in a previous message. I believe I typed...consellation or a word close to being as daft as.
We in Kintyre have not had snow. Bright and sunny at the mo' smile

soop we did miss you yesterday smile

23 smile had a good fall again last night but I think this morning its starting to melt as the piles on top of the garden furniture and BBQ seem to be diminishing... now we have talk of floods as it melts hmm its does give you a warm glow I know what you mean.

I have posted the photos of yesterday but I must warn you all I am no David Bailey. wink The small photo of Marelli at the top wont let me delete it as the delete button as disappeared, so just disregard that one and scroll down.

Soop You were definately there in spirt - your presence was felt. Baubles and I had a special extra ((soop)) hug in your honour. Hope you enjoyed your virtual share of the delicious food which we sent to you. grin

As one of the newest Gransnet I have made my comment elsewhere on this site so here is another one now that I have found this link. Thank you so very much for the lovely Burns afternoon, the ab fab food and a very special thank, you to Elegran for letting a wee or not so wee stranger from Fife into her braw home.
And as I said before the tatties were delicious. (Don't give the secret away) I've already bought them this morning. Shhhhhhhh
Our trip back home was not too bad however at my home on a hill around 12 adult bodies were oot on the road pushing stuck cars up the hill. I believe there was a little road rage around however Im pleased to say I just missed it.
Thanks again all you wonderful grans nets.

soop Sat 26-Jan-13 16:32:55

The photos are lovely, Glass...they come with their own sound-track: that of merry banter grin

Marelli Sat 26-Jan-13 16:35:57

We had forgotten to bring the bagpipes, so we had to sing Scotland the Brave while the Haggis went on a tour round the room! grin

soop Sat 26-Jan-13 16:43:54

glass I enjoyed looking at the happy photos. Baubles it was brave of you to read the "tribute" to the haggis. I'm looking forward to the next gathering. I wish you all a pleasant, peaceful weekend. moon
Afore I go...GO, Andy, go...! We're rooting for you. smile

Great photos Glass, still can`t get used to Marelli with longer hair! Looks and sounds like you all had a brilliant time. Who addressed the haggis?

absent Sat 26-Jan-13 18:21:41

Great pics and you all quite clearly had a great time. So looking forward to a meet-up I can get to again. I'm a bit shocked by lack of haggis where I live – I never found it hard to get a properly authentic one in London, a couple of hundred miles further south than where I am now. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have made one myself as I am sure my lovely butcher in the market could have supplied me with a sheep's paunch – so long as I asked in advance.

Perhaps when I am living in New Zealand – which has loads of people of Scottish ancestry plus loads of sheep – I might set up an annual cottage industry of haggis production. There's a thought. smile

Ella46 Sat 26-Jan-13 18:22:11

glass These are great photos. I do wish I'd been there with you.

Your other photos are lovely - and I adore the thrush in the snow. Beautiful.

baubles Sat 26-Jan-13 19:44:31

Glass I love your photos of the thrush. Is that the house you are renovating? It looks as though it's in a beautiful location.

Soop 'foolish' may be more apt grin

flowers for Elegran what a multi talented lady she is.

glassortwo Sat 26-Jan-13 19:48:31

baubles it is our house and is heaven on earth if there can be such a thing, one of these days we will get in.

I want to wholeheartedly agree that elegran is multi talented and made us all so welcome yesterday.
