.... almost want the other side to win, simply because the follow up to the result would be so much more interesting? Yes, I know that is completely irresponsible. hmm

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 05:24:14

We can't convince the markets all is well, because they aren't and they're not stupid. The Bank of England will be deciding right now what they can do. The first thing is that they're going to have to step in to support the pound.

Meanwhile, the money traders will be ordering their new Ferraris! angry

obieone Fri 24-Jun-16 05:24:44

I would say it has implications for more than a generation.

I wonder whether Gove and Boris will have to help out a lot. Cameron shot himself in the foot right at the beginning by saying that Leave was a leap into the dark.

Let's hope he has clued himself up a lot since then.

Decisions have been made whitewave, on what some people are experiencing right now. Around where they live. What they are experiencing every day.

People can and do vote on whatever they think and matters to them personally. I think a vote is wonderful!

dd, perhaps I need to put up the list again, but countries do exist quite happily, economically, outside of the EU.

Brexit say we need calm measures discussion. Well that's what they would like to happen
The can sit and have calm discussion and the market falls apart

obieone Fri 24-Jun-16 05:29:23

I dont mind trying to calm people down, but I dont think I am going to stay around on gransnet for a few days/couple of weeks, while people deal with their anger and panic, and probably take it out on posters.
Not worth it and I cant be bothered.

In my opinion, Cameron has got about 2 weeks at best, to try and get a handle on the new Britain.

And personally, I want Osborne to stay, because like him or not, I personally think he does generally understand finances and the financial world.

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 05:35:33

They are both toast. Quite frankly the Brexiteers wanted this so it is up to them to sort it out.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 05:37:24

Lololol @ obie

Sorry, but he really doesn't. My daughter sometimes jokes (well, I'm not sure if it's a joke) that she's better qualified than Osborne in economics. She certainly has better paper qualifications and work experience.

Osborne's claim to fame has been as a strategist. His economic measures haven't been grounded in what's good for the country, but what's good for attracting votes.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 05:40:42

The Telegraph is suggesting that Labour wants an early election, which they will inevitably lose, so they can elect a new leader.

Yes, let the BREXIT buffoons sort this out. We're going to be in for a rocky ride.

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 05:41:06

Scotland gone? Northern Ireland highly questionable
Someone give me some good news. Perhaps I'm just tired

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 05:48:22

The weird thing is as someone just said thst 2/3 of parliament disagree with the result. Whose therefore going to carry out the negotiations?

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 06:06:35

Le Penn's tail must be up

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 06:11:32

Stocks and the futures market have fallen massively. The pound has even fallen against the Zimbabwean dollar. Gold is up, as it always is when there's predicted instability.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 06:16:13

£150bn written off the FTSE! How much was leaving the EU supposed to save, so that it could be given to the NHS? It would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.

Yeah! Yeah! It was only 'experts' who said this would happen. What do they know?

The real tragedy is that it will be the 'common people' who will pay with their jobs and security. Those fat cats everybody so despises still won't care, because they'll be busy making their money with their money transactions.

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 06:16:35

Farage is too dangerous. He is still talking about division. He can't e allowed anywhere near government

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 06:17:54

Noone listened or believed

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 06:18:01

Wales was going to receive the equivalent of £1000 per person in EU aid from now until 2020. Why didn't they want the money?

GandTea Fri 24-Jun-16 06:22:00

Tighten your belts, the s.... is about to hit the fan. I'm ashamed to say that the racist element has got their wish.

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 06:25:22

If we can't control inflation interest rates will rise. We are not yet out of debt thanks to Osbornes rubbish economics and so the debt will get worse.

annsixty Fri 24-Jun-16 06:25:24

A win mostly by the uneducated vote and they will now be the losers.
I think for the first time I am pleased I am nearly 79 and won't live to see the effects but sad my GC will.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 06:25:38

Indeed! Maybe we should send some of them to Berlin for a meeting with Merkel. With a bit of luck, Germany might take pity and annexe us. hmm

Gracesgran Fri 24-Jun-16 06:26:35

I feel more afraid this morning than I did when mortgages were 15% and we ended up with two houses for a short time.

I except this is the will of the people but comments like "this is our Berlin Wall moment" as I have just heard are ridiculous. I do not remember 48% of Germany being against the wall coming down and it must be remembered that this huge change turns on what appears to be just 4%. Add to that it appears the younger voters did, as expected, in the majority vote to remain.

The only thing Robert Peston could say as a positive was it compares to Margaret Thatcher coming to power and changing the proceeding consensus. He said that eventually the country got richer after years of upheaval and wiping out our industries. In my opinion we are still reeling from those changes and yes, the "country" got richer but many people have lost any sense of security and the opportunity for a reasonable income.

I await:

Many carers returning to their EU country and NHS staff going to work in more secure economies.
Increase in prices of everyday goods
Attacks on State Pensions in order to try and keep us on an even keel fiscally.

It is certainly not my "Berlin Wall" day.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 06:26:49

Bank of England staffers have been called into work and told to expect to work over the weekend.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 06:29:07

@ Gracesgran

I spent most of wy working life as a languages teacher and belong to a number of language teacher sites. Approximately a third of language teachers in the UK are EU nationals and are now very worried about their future.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 06:29:23

wy = my (typo)

Luckygirl Fri 24-Jun-16 06:30:57

Racism was not the only motivation of those who wanted to leave.

The result is, as expected very very close indeed, which is what was inevitable and is why this referendum should never have happened - it can hardly be described as the will of the people when almost half the people disagree.

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 06:34:26

Nobody is questioning the democratic process lucky it is how the hell we got where we are that id so bewildering, and the fallout thst is just as predicted beginning to happen
