Trump. How could all those people vote for him?
Ochone ochone (Gaelic lamentation)

daphnedill Wed 09-Nov-16 14:27:43

With Katie Hopkins as Vice President.

The American people have decided, we should respect that. None of us can see into the future and he might turn out to be one of the best Presidents yet. To prejudge him, when your not even an American is, to me, a bit arrogant

sunseeker Wed 09-Nov-16 14:33:59

Aren't we getting a bit carried away - according to the posters on here there will be murder of ethnic minorities, children afraid to go to school, women losing their rights and he will start a nuclear war! Whilst Republicans have the majority in Congress, many of them did not want or support Trump - so he will not have free rein to do as he pleases. Unfortunately, white and black Americans have been killing each other for a long time, that won't change just because Trump is President. No I am not a Trump supporter but neither am I a Clinton supporter - I think she is devious and not to be trusted and I have heard her described by some Americans as a war monger.

ninathenana Wed 09-Nov-16 14:36:16

Have you listened to his pre election speeches. Grannysmith ?
No we don't know what sort of president he will be (can take a good guess) but he's shown us what kind of person he is. No prejudgment there.

Barmyoldbat Wed 09-Nov-16 14:41:24

Someone posted about waiting for the first murder as a result of this terrible result, well with a bit of luck it will be Trump. Also agree with Anya, I am out here staying in Cambodia for the winter as I have been for the 10 years and I have seen what devastation and povety a self obsessed, cruel, power and war hungry idiot can do. I. Also hope against hope that just maybe we will stay in EU because of this result. Do we want to cosy up to Trump and possibly Putin? Just saying

Luckygirl Wed 09-Nov-16 14:41:43

It is usually a pain when politicians promise things that they later do not deliver when they get elected - in this case, one can only hope.

Presumably there will be folk to rein him in a bit.

TriciaF Wed 09-Nov-16 14:46:05

But how can people be so gullible? So unrealistic? Superman is flying in to save the Nation!
It's similar with Brexit - I blame the internet.

This is spooky

grannypiper Wed 09-Nov-16 15:10:59

maddyone, uneducated is a pretty mild insult on GN for anyone who dared to vote for brexit or Trump, its usually ignorant, racist or neo nazi and thats coming from people who believe that everyone has a right to live their life they way they see fit and believe in a persons right to free speech unless it doesnt tally with their view then its open season.

grannypiper Wed 09-Nov-16 15:12:30

sunseeker, words of calm in a sea of hysteria

Lisalou Wed 09-Nov-16 15:19:17

Happy Birthday Jane 10, my birthday too. I am sad for the world. I remember some years ago feeling really happy that my birthday commemorated the fall of the Berlin Wall, (Nov 9 1989), it would seem this birthday will commemorate far worse things.

JessM Wed 09-Nov-16 15:19:47

Lots of people said calm and optimistic things in Germany in the mid to late 30s, as the will of God was presumably played out...
Best case scenario is that Trump gets well and truly bogged down in the complex system that is Washington.
Also. Easy to blithely say things like "i'll cut taxes" one minute and "I'll rebuild our infrastructure" the next. But as we know, rebuilding infrastructure is a series long, complex projects that take years to even get off the starting blocks, (lots of engineering design, planning etc has to take place) and if private finance was going to shell out to do it, that would have happened years ago.

To think we watched House of Cards and thought that was dystopian...

Dd1was in NY last week. Her connections are with bureaucrats and she said she feels we are coming to the end of an angry cycle and there is new feeling about. She said it is not going to be easy.

Stansgran Wed 09-Nov-16 15:40:38

The shares have gone up too. I don't really understand. This is the price we pay for democracy isn't it?

anniemcgeoch Wed 09-Nov-16 15:43:53

the end of the old world and scary new

whitewave Wed 09-Nov-16 15:46:40

The right has got its tale up. I hope it doesn't give a boost to the far right in Europe.

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 15:51:15

Didn't you just see this coming?
No, I didn't, I was astonished this morning.

I think it has a lot to do with the Clintons' unpopularity too.

marionk Wed 09-Nov-16 15:56:13

Frightening news!

Badenkate Wed 09-Nov-16 16:05:56

On the bright side, we're doing well in the first test against India smile

Spot Wed 09-Nov-16 16:29:13

I have been watching interviews with the American voters on TV. I am amazed at how civilised the losers are. Boy could the British People learn something from them. The Americans appear to recognise the democratic process even if they don't like the result.

Granny23 Wed 09-Nov-16 16:31:28

Just dawned on me that today's date (as we number it) is 9/11. - a portent of DOOM methinks shock

Tessa101 Wed 09-Nov-16 16:32:32

Certainly wasn't surprised this morning, the people have spoken. 7 out of 10 Americans were not happy with the way there country was going. So they voted for change.Out of all the millions in America surely they could have found better candidates than them 2.

Grandmama Wed 09-Nov-16 17:05:28

DH thought I was joking when I woke him up with the news. You can never trust polls.

Anniebach Wed 09-Nov-16 17:07:28

If 7 out of 10 voted fir change how did she win the popular vote ?

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 17:10:11

Granny23 so it is, I had not realised

Re the polls - I think they may as well do away with polls, they have been so unpredictable lately - and that is their function - to predict.
