Trump. How could all those people vote for him?
Ochone ochone (Gaelic lamentation)

sarahellenwhitney Wed 09-Nov-16 13:34:51

Agree with grannypiper and it beggars belief to assume that out of the millions of votes cast that not any coloured persons ,any women, any disabled persons ,any muslims voted for Trump?.

A better America means for instance no poverty, decent wages affordable housing and poverty is rife in many states, Affordable health care which under the Democrats is impossible.

daphnedill Wed 09-Nov-16 13:38:16

Before 'Obamacare' there were 30,000,000 Americans without any healthcare cover.

What do you think Trump will do to eradicate poverty?

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 13:38:45

There were some Hispanic people at the Trump conventions, but not enough of them voted ( for either candidate) according to the pundits.

Alidoll Wed 09-Nov-16 13:44:16

Just waiting on the first reported murder in the US as a result of Trump getting in. You know it's coming... and KKK membership will increase over the coming months.

Both candidates were terrible and many Americans saw it as the lesser of two evils rather than best person for the role. Hilary is despised by many and just had too much baggage. Teflon Trump was seen as anti-establishment and shouting for the little man.

The democrats now need to find someone who is NOT establishment, who can speak eloquently and with passion before the next election. That will be their challenge in the years ahead or there will be 2 terms of Trump.

Apparently 33 million people in the US have no health insurance. It appears that Obamacare extended the insured population by some 9 million. So yes, a really good idea to abolish it...

kff.org/uninsured/fact-sheet/key-facts-about-the-uninsured-population/

I wonder what Trump intends to do to make sure all US citizens have access to healthcare?

(Thank heaven for the NHS)

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 13:48:10

Exactly right Alidoll

MaizieD Wed 09-Nov-16 13:48:41

And how does Trump propose to achieve "no poverty, decent wages affordable housing and ....., Affordable health care"

Oh yes, no more Free Trade. That'll be a little inconvenient for post-Brexit Britain, won't it?

norose4 Wed 09-Nov-16 13:49:04

Yorkshiregel, I too noticed the poor boy & his body language, he looked so uncomfortable & like he wished he was a million miles away , he seemed as if he was down trodden &brow beaten!! Perhaps we should just hope that he was merely tired! & not downcast by who & what he is connected to.

path20 Wed 09-Nov-16 13:55:58

Time will tell.

Synonymous Wed 09-Nov-16 13:57:55

Nowhere have I said that God chose Trump. shock
I said that God will use people to accomplish His purposes which is a very different thing. Hysteria would seem to be dictating how you are 'translating' things so do be careful.

God uses the unlikeliest people, often in spite of themselves, so stop worrying and start praying. We have an Almighty God who answers prayers in accordance with His purposes. sunshine

Beammeupscottie Wed 09-Nov-16 14:00:18

So what is God's purpose in choosing The Donald?

Rinouchka Wed 09-Nov-16 14:01:28

Like many others, I was appalled, but not surprised by the choice of the American electorate.
Anyone who has spent some time in the USA in recent months would have witnessed the momentum( polite word, otherwise "frenzy") for change. "Change" meaning anti-establishment, anti- leftwing politics, anti-liberal themes and values. This mass frenzy was not dissimilar to the mood in America during the Joe McCarthy era in the early 1950s.
Despite polls, a Trump victory was in the air as a tidal wave of discontent, suspicion, mistrust, hate and fear . Those who have called this a "whitelash" are correct.

The Supreme Court will now be entrenched in conservatism for at least a generation.

However, Americans( that includes me) and the rest of the world have to move on. Let us hope that a Trump presidency will not be as awful as we expect. As with Brexit, the people have spoken. Let us also hope that this tidalwave that has swept through the UK and the USA does not engulf the French with a Marine Le Pen victory in 2017.

Today is a sad day, indeed.

The son of a black FB friend (American) has just posted that this is the will of God confused

does that mean Hitler, Pol Pot et al ruled by divine right too?

ninathenana Wed 09-Nov-16 14:06:38

Dare I say that the whole of the morning, the lunchtime news and now more 'special' coverage this afternoon and a programme tonight is enough
They are just going over and over the same points. Yes it's scary yes he's a #£%& but were not American

Beammeupscottie Wed 09-Nov-16 14:08:04

No, we are not American but when the U.S.A sneezes, we catch a cold,

rosesarered Wed 09-Nov-16 14:10:39

More that it's a matter of acceptance I think Anya ( than ruling by divine right.)Although you would have to ask him.Not that I believe God has any hand in the matter.

DaphneBroon Wed 09-Nov-16 14:10:59

exalted wombat the 40th POTUS (Ronald Reagan) had at least had a degree of political experience before standing for president.
https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Ronald.
Ronald Wilson Reagan was an American politician and actor who was the 40th President of the United States, from 1981 to 1989. Before his presidency, he was the 33rd Governor of California, from 1967 to 1975

But Trump?? It would be like choosing Davina McCall, Alan Sugar or Graham Norton -actually I would probably vote for Graham Norton.

paddyann Wed 09-Nov-16 14:12:07

Synonymous I wish I had your faith but with the state of the world nowadays I think we need something a bit more concrete than "god" to save us all ,he doesn't appear to be making a very good job of it right now

Caroline123 Wed 09-Nov-16 14:14:51

I agree with whitewave

Anya Wed 09-Nov-16 14:16:13

If I believed in a god then I'd have to believe in the anti-Christ hmm

Rinouchka Wed 09-Nov-16 14:22:44

Please let's leave God out of this. If he exists, he has no political agenda, I am sure.

Rinouchka Wed 09-Nov-16 14:24:03

...and he would have chosen Bob Dylan to be president!

Synonymous Wed 09-Nov-16 14:25:44

Beammeupscottie you are asking one of the eternal questions and one of those that we always cry out! smile It is not easy waiting to see what is going to happen but if you know the scriptures it really helps. If you read Romans 13: 1 - 8 particularly focussing on v 1 - 5 this is an explanation to lean on. Just remember that we only see things clearly in retrospect and talking to God in prayer is very calming and helps keep things in perspective.

An interesting prophecy in Isaiah 44 : 28 shows just how long term God's plans are because it specifically named a foreign monarch 190 years before it came to pass and before the man had even been born! Fascinating to read all about that. We shall see what we shall see!

angie95 Wed 09-Nov-16 14:26:00

Happy birthday Jane xx

daphnedill Wed 09-Nov-16 14:26:29

That's a bit unfair to Alan Sugar.

How about Jeremy Clarkson?
