Has his halo slipped?

Is he really just the same as some of those other overpaid, rich celebrities who "do charity" on one hand and then take it directly away with the other by not paying his fair share of taxes?

I always thought that DB was one of the good guys and I am truly disappointed with what I have learned in the last few days.

When his first son was born he said, "I definitely want to have him christened, but I haven't decided into which religion yet."
How dim can you get? The mind boggles....

Elrel Thu 09-Feb-17 18:23:52

I expect he meant denomination.

Rigby46 Thu 09-Feb-17 18:27:41

I bet he meant religion grin

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 18:34:29

Since Jimmy Savile had a knighthood they are already devalued.
It's the people who refuse 'honours' who are most deserving of respect imho

I agree - the honours system is completely devalued when they are awarded to business people who avoid tax and feather their own nests, pop stars, sports people who win a match, tv presenters, people who dress politicians' wives, political cronies etc etc

And all the charity workers and real heroes go unsung in the main.

I always cringe when I hear him being interviewed. I have always thought he seemed a nice chap though. My DH always says 'believe none of what you hear and half of what you see'. I've always thought that a bit cynical but I think he is right. I will say about someone on TV 'he/she is nice' and DH will say 'How do you know? They are only letting you see what they want you to see to perpetuate the image'. As for Victoria she seems to have everything anyone could want and never cracks a smile. I personally believe the majority of them are out for themselves, including Beckham it now seems.

When DB wrote his emails I doubt that he was expecting them to be read by a whole lot of ladies of a certain age and therefore didn't edit them appropriately. I should like to get a look at some of Philip Green's correspondence I imagine his opinions of the powers that be would make David look like a Victorian maiden.

Shizam Thu 09-Feb-17 20:42:51

Golly. David beckham isn't that smart. He's made pots of cash and wants to hang on to it. His offspring are utilising the family name to get some of their own. Would quite like a gong. This has been dear old Britain for generations. Usually it's your toffier sorts doing it. Someone from 'common' roots gets too big for his boots, and they go for him/her.
I still think good on yer Becks.

Eloethan Thu 09-Feb-17 21:02:31

I did think he seemed quite sensible and courteous but this episode has rather put me off him. I do see Shizam's point, though. Some people with relatively privileged backgrounds and useful connections seem equally as keen to receive a title and perhaps when they behave less than perfectly, because they aren't necessarily in the public eye, it doesn't receive so much attention or opprobrium.

Personally, I think the way the honours system works is ridiculous and I have more admiration for those who turn down honours.

Anniebach Thu 09-Feb-17 21:09:56

Exactly Shizam, perhaps the children should change their surnames so as not to cash in on their legitimate name.

Ana Thu 09-Feb-17 21:18:08

The children haven't pursued fame and modelling contracts though, have they? Their parents have done it on their behalf - that's what I find distasteful.

Jaxie Thu 09-Feb-17 21:36:46

Any man who uses the C word betrays a nasty attitude towards women. I wonder if he would like Harper to be asking him what it means.

Anniebach Thu 09-Feb-17 22:59:22

Ana, what of parents who sign for their children to begin a career in the army , I think this thread is realy unpleasant , yes condemn him if he has commited tax fraud , but private emails ? I dislike foul language so choose not to read it, many here seem to have lapped up every word and then aired their views on how disgusted they are, is this not like watching a porn film and then declaring how didgusting it is

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:26:13

Ana as Emilia Fox says - it is so difficult to get on in the acting/singing/stage world when your parents are famous.
And someone else who has just hit the big time said how difficult it is when you have a famous parent (was it Phil Collins's daughter?).

Poor things, such a handicap. They should try being Joe Bloggs's daughter/son from 1 End Street, Somewheretown.

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:27:33

BUT DID HE SAY THAT OR WERE THIS EMAILS HACKED AND ALTERED?

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:27:46

HIS not THIS

gillybob Thu 09-Feb-17 23:33:22

Poor analogy though anniebachif you don't mind me saying. , I was one of those people that have followed DB and actually believed he was one of the good guys. I (personally) have never watched the Sound of Music (or whatever) only to find it was really a nasty porn film.

I have re-written this 3 times now so apologies if you don't understand what I mean. smile

gillybob Thu 09-Feb-17 23:35:49

Well yes His "peeps" did say that his emails were hacked Jamila

well they would wouldn't they

Rigby46 Thu 09-Feb-17 23:44:30

AB I think your phrase 'lapped up every word' and then comparing it to watching porn is pretty pathetic and ridiculous. I don't know why you are such an ardent supporter of DB but those of us who are not do not deserve to be accused of purience because we read a widely reported news story which btw was widely reported because this man and his wife take every opportunity they can to thrust themselves into the glare of publicity to benefit their coffers and then complain because er er stories about them get publicity. Amongst my friends of all ages and backgrounds I do not know one who would send a foul mouthed tirade like he did ( several in fact) in an email to someone they employed. And yes Jaxie the c word is particularly unacceptable - I bet he doesn't use it when he's smooching with the royals.

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:46:20

They were 'definitely' hacked by all accounts, allegedly, and then offered back for £1 million - allegedly - but were they altered by the hacker?

That is the question hmm

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:51:44

I don't get the impression that anniebach is an ardent supporter of David Beckham, rather that this is all rather sordid and many people seem to be revelling in it and she feels it is wrong that his privacy has been invaded and publicised for all the world to read.

That is what I feel too.

I am sure anniebach will correct me if I'm wrong.

gillybob Thu 09-Feb-17 23:52:02

We will never know the "truth" though will we Jamila it's a bit like liars and cheats covering for............... Liars and cheats (allegedly) . hmm

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:52:02

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:52:56

and how many people are practically perfect in every way?

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Jalima Thu 09-Feb-17 23:53:32

why did that post twice?

moon

gillybob Thu 09-Feb-17 23:54:11

I am sick of typing (or rather attempting to type) the word Allegedly !

and I spell it wrong every time
