Voting quandry

I'm a life-long Labour voter but cannot bear to suppprt Corbyn in the forthcoming election. The party will remain a shambles until it is under proper leadership and he seems to have totally lost the plot. I will not vote Conservative for many reasons and I feel betrayed by Theresa May's u-turn on Brexit, u-turn on not calling an election...there is no trust.

I will not abstain - the vote is a privilege. But for the first time I am seriously at a loss. There is no credible opposition. Locally there are no viable candidates that I feel I can endorse in order to make a point. I need to put my X in the box and it's the first time ever I've thought they are all as bad as each other.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 09:38:58

So why don't you support the good Labour MPs, some of whom are going to lose their seats, because people like you continue to put all the emphasis on Corbyn?

You should be shouting from the rooftops how much good grassroots MPs are doing, rather than denigrating the leadership. These people have been doing their job despite everything.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 09:46:00

Daphne, what the hell do you think I do? I am canvassing for good labour MP's , my posts here affect the voting throughout the country ?

Some MP's I am in contact with live too far away for me to travel to.

There is inconsistency in campaigning for the local party whilst coming onto a national social forum and reinforcing everything that the right wing press and media commentators say about the unelectability of the party, the untrustworthiness of Corbyn and the mindlessness of those who refuse to denounce him - and who, according to you, deserve to be called "flies" attracted to "manure".

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 10:22:52

I put this link on the other thread
Carwyn can't bear to speak his name in public apparently
However, I wonder what is going on behind closed doors? I doubt they are all suffering the Corbyn effect in silence.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 10:26:56

I expect there are very many Labour supporters saying the same as anniebach online, in the media and with other Labour activists and voters.

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 10:35:23

I don't see your point there, Jalima. Carwyn Jonesa is first minister of the Welsh Assembly and as such is doing his job.
Why does he need to be seen to mention Corbyn?

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 10:56:45

Jalima, I said in several, posts here yesterday. We are fighting for Welsh Labour and for Carwyn our leader. Wales is in danger of becoming Tory controlled .ni will repeat , I was more than irritated to heard McDonald and Corbyn say how they had done better in Wales, not true, Corbyn made one visit here , not our choosing, we kept Cardiff but it was Welsh labour assembly members and Welsh labour members who worked their socks off to keep Cardiff.

I heard a newly elected councillor for Merthyr interviewed, I know he is labour but he stood as an independant . I heard the defeated labour council leader interviewed and he said the loss of Merthyr was because of Corbyn.

Stephen Kinnock gave interviews and was honest, it was not a great victory for Wales but we held on.

I stood down as chair of my local, party but only because a member refused to apologise for saying our only hope was Corbyn would have a massive heart attack, I remained fully involved in the csmpaign for our seven town councillors , all re elected. Our fliers referred to local issues and Welsh Labour.

I did a daily battle on a local site with a Tory who was standing, he lost .

My loyalty to labour is as strong as ever , I have no loyalty to Corbyn who doesn't give a jot about winning the election, his aim is to form a communist party .

All the far left here can hurl insults at me , it is bullying but I will continue to be true to myself, I will not lie and will not respond to the baits from some of them.

End of epistle smile

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 11:06:34

I think most can see that anniebach smile
And you are far from alone

So rise above the baiting

And the despair

nigglynellie Sat 06-May-17 11:10:33

annie, be it far from me to interfere, but perhaps it's a bit drastic to wish a massive heart attack onto anyone?! Surely resignation would do??!!!!!

GracesGranMK2 Sat 06-May-17 11:17:56

I expect there are very many Labour supporters saying the same as anniebach online, in the media and with other Labour activists and voters.

But what is their intention in doing this Jalima. Do they want May to win? Because they are helping her do that and it seems a strange aim for a person who believes themselves to be fundamentally Labour.

Are they prepared to lose this most important of elections just to take the party away from those who have voted for Corybn? I really don't understand the intention they have but as sure as eggs is eggs they will hand the election to May.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 11:20:07

Niggly,I was so angry ,he refused to withdraw the comment so I resigned the chair, I would not tolerate such a vile comment. I want Corbyn out but do not wish him illness of any sort.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 11:22:05

Of course there many former Labour voters saying the same and some of them are being pragmatic and saying they think Corbyn is a wally, but they're still voting for the party, which is bigger than one person - or even the small group supporting him. If they have a good MP, they're working hard to support him/her (with tongues firmly bitten).

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 11:27:09

There's an awful lot of biased reporting around as well. I've read quite a few times on local sites that Labour nearly lost Durham Council - only a twenty seat majority!

GracesGranMK2 Sat 06-May-17 11:35:27

Another thread turned into the AB anti-Corbyn thread. I do wish we could be allowed to continue with the OP of threads. sad

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 11:39:26

I have never been a former labour supporter Daphne, never voted for another party , never abstained from voting.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 11:42:16

I agree with you dj. There's a HUGE amount of biased reporting. By its very nature, reporting is biased, which is why everybody should be aware of the agenda behind anything which is written or said.

I read a tweet about Durham, so checked it out and thought "WTF was all that about ?", although I think Durham is now the only Labour controlled shire council.

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 11:49:26

Not surprised, daphne. Not the sort of uniqueness I want, though.
Although the Tories do not control Northumberland, by a long straw!

Eloethan Sat 06-May-17 11:52:52

You are not being bullied anniebach. Some people are responding to your incessant denigration of Corbyn - with your opinions dressed up as facts - and talking down on this site of the Labour Party.

Having just applauded Beammeupscottie for referring to people who support Corbyn as "flies on manure", I think you perhaps need to reflect on your own behaviour.

But, of course, I am just one more person that you choose to "ignore" on this site because my views don't correspond with yours.

POGS Sat 06-May-17 12:07:31

Eloethan

"Having just applauded Beammeupscottie for referring to people who support Corbyn as "flies on manure","

This is a rerun of the accusation over the intent of the Merthyr grin by AB yesterday.

"Anniebach
"He [Corbyn] does seem to attract women Beam

Beammeupscottie
"Like flies to manure?

That is not calling people who support Corbyn as 'flies on manure", it is mocking I agree , it is about the observation we have all noticed over a period of time Corbyn 'was' surrounded by women so often when making / using the media to promote himself.

Quite a different interpretation but this happened yesterday with the Merthyr /grin debacle which also twisted a post to suit.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 12:10:03

Eleothan, all I have said against Corbyn has been facts , my opinion is I do not trust him .

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 12:14:36

Flies to manure? - did amuse me, it was a light hearted comment.

I was born in Merthyr grin is it a crime not to be proud of you home town?

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 12:14:37

"Jen enjoys insulting anyone who doesn't worship at the shrine of her hero Corbyn"

And this has nothing to do with it, either, does it not, POGS?

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 12:20:38

It is a lie Jen? You didn't tell me to shut up when I posted about Corbyn, I have never told you to shut up, often wished it when your links from bloggers are posted but never sunk to telling you to shut up. I have never told anyone to shut up, I respect their freedom to post their opinions . I ignore baiting posts, perhaps I should reply with - shut up?

nightowl Sat 06-May-17 12:35:29

You are not being bullied Annie. Don't pretend you are some kind of martyr to the 'true Labour cause' (my italics) when in fact you are quite simply a New Labour supporter who is disappointed because New Labour no longer govern the party.

I, and I suspect several others, have chosen not to contribute much to political threads due to the personal insults you have directed towards us, backed up by contributors who do not share your political views but who see you as an ally against Labour.

I could claim I was 'bullied' off the forum but I wasn't, and it's a cheap shot to play.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 12:39:35

To be fair GGMK2 This thread is about the quandary of how to vote and Corbyn has put many Labour voters in a quandary so perhaps that is why it has veered in that direction.
I am sure my family will grit their teeth whilst they are placing their cross and vote as they always do. But not with a glad heart.

But if May wins it could be down to all the other voters who feel they cannot do that and will vote Lib Dem
