Sigh and double sigh.

Not content with taking us into an undemocratic referendum when we are all asked to vote on something where no-one could have a clear picture of the options, the conservatives now have a leader who stands and loudly slags off those with whom we need to negotiate for the secure future of the country. All thoroughly irresponsible - it just makes me want to despair.

Just because you don't believe the Labour Party isn't the answer, it's not logical to think that the Conservatives will provide any solutions, especially if you are not one of the "already haves".

"Theresa May was facing a number of looming crises: electoral fraud, EU negotiations turmoil, internal Tory Party division and a potential reduced majority leading to an increasingly powerless and rudderless Government.

With this perfect storm on the horizon, a divided country and perceptions of a divided opposition, the prime minster has seized the initiative and attempted a back door political coup, with a narrative based on the pretext of needing a new mandate for strong leadership, to ‘crush the saboteurs’-to use the words of the Daily Mail.

If she wins the election, I believe history will in time expose this as one of the greatest political con-tricks of the modern age."

However, we just have to wait and see.

Sorry, that was from the Planet Magazine link, definitely biased as it was written by a Labour AM.

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 11:22:47

Daphne, are you saying the Labour party is the answer?

POGS Sat 06-May-17 12:34:35

So Juncker is in Italy, addressing an Italian audience.

He decides to speak in French as English has no relevance in the EU .

He tells the Italian audience this in English.

I will ask again why did he simply not speak in French from the outset to an Italian audience.?

Why did he feel it necessary to mock the UK with a wry smile?

Why is Juncker only prepared to give Brexit 30 minutes a week?

Why did Juncker 'leak' details of the dinner with May?

Plenty of other comments from Juncker show his attitude toward the UK decision to leave in the same manner.

Juncker is the President of the EU Commission, he represents '28' not '27' countries in the EU Parliament at present. He represents 751 MEP's.

If Juncker is the best spokesperson the EU can elect to represent the European Union then to be honest it shows how the many voices from inside and outside of the EU that have been saying for years the EU Elite are a cause of some of the dissent , the European Union needs to look hard at itself and make changes were 100% correct.

rosesarered Sat 06-May-17 12:57:00

That last sentence in particular POGS my thoughts exactly!

MaizieD Sat 06-May-17 12:58:55

I'm sure you can answer all your own questions to your own satisfaction, POGS.

The usual suspects will agree with you and the usual suspects will disagree with you.

MaizieD Sat 06-May-17 12:59:23

There, the echo chamber comes in right on cue...

Welshwife Sat 06-May-17 13:02:58

It was an EU conference being held in Italy. There were a number of speakers - Barnier spoke and gave his ideas of what should happen to the EU citizens in the UK and the Brits living in the EU.

nigglynellie Sat 06-May-17 13:09:22

Echo chamber? that's as may be, but lets face it, it's the truth!

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 13:12:07

How do you know Juncker leaked the details, POGS?

trisher Sat 06-May-17 13:16:14

No niggly it's an opinion
Even the year 6s I taught learned to tell the difference and could pick out the facts which are
Juncker spoke to an EU audience in Italy first in English and then in French. Everything else is opinion. I can send you a link to Y6 literacy where the difference is explained if you like.

nigglynellie Sat 06-May-17 14:21:16

I don't need you to patronise me trisher, particularly as although you're a teacher, you didn't seem to realise the difference between Jacob and William Rees-Mogg even though one of them has been dead for five years!!! However, I did politely put you right with no hint of superiority! Perhaps you could afford me the same courtesy?

trisher Sat 06-May-17 16:16:04

I admitted I was wrong niggly perhaps you should do the same- facts can be "the truth" opinions can't be, they are just opinions.

nigglynellie Sat 06-May-17 16:30:57

Yes you did, but then I wasn't rude/school marmish or patronising with you!

rosesarered Sat 06-May-17 16:33:17

Maizie I think you have a merry band of usual suspects agreeing with you too!
It's the nature of things, some will be more in tune with the thoughts of others.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 06-May-17 17:39:15

Theresa May is a stoic strong PM and long shall she reign. Funny enough I'm not the only one who thinks this, most of Britain does to smile

nigglynellie Sat 06-May-17 18:08:11

I certainly do 'still.....'

stillaliveandkicking Sat 06-May-17 18:15:28

*too

MargaretX Sat 06-May-17 20:36:00

I think that when the Uk joined the common market English was not an official common market language as regards interpreters and translators.
Then there were only 6 nations and they spoke French and German. Now of course the Eastern countries want to speak English or would prefer Russian but that seems unlikely. Depends on what they learned at school.

English humour is supposed to be a wonderful thing and I think Juncker likes to annoy the English and stir things up.

stillaliveandkicking Sat 06-May-17 20:46:08

English have a fab sense of humour, Juncker however is a bitter drunk.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 21:00:12

I would say 'frightened' rather than bitter saak
Frightened to let the UK leave in a calm and orderly fashion in case other countries start agitating for a referendum to leave.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 06-May-17 21:04:01

Theresa May is a stoic strong PM and long shall she reign. Funny enough I'm not the only one who thinks this, most of Britain does to

SAAK your maths seem to be faulty. Roughly half the seats in the local election were won by the Tories so your 'most' is now down to half. That half was half of less than thirty percent turnout so you are now down to less than 15% of the country. Some of that half will not have been interested in May or the what the Tories are going to do to us but only in Brexit.

I don't know how many those are but so far less than 15% of the UK have given her any sort of mandate. 'Strong an Stoic' my eye. She stands for a party tarred by their viciousness to the poor and less able and had an eye to the main chance and will do all she can, even if it is undemocratic to grasp at power.

Ana Sat 06-May-17 21:04:51

Yes. Quite pathetic really.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-May-17 21:05:33

I assume you're referring to what I posted Ana !
