That's a bum, can anyone cut and paste or something the manifesto that took me blood sweat and tears to do this morning please!!!???

Don't you think the extras in the background -presumably paid up members of Theresa May's team all look utterly miserable? I honestly can't understand why as we're told they're headed for a landslide victory. Perhaps they are just bored hearing S&S and all the other mantras or maybe they're embarrassed at this dishonest charade.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 13-May-17 20:04:35

There is hardly a smile between them varian and I don't understand how anyone can believe this change to 'kind and cuddly conservatism'. Do you believe Nanny May really means any of the understanding she is professing to show she understands the 'left-behinds' mmm ... now I wonder who destroyed their industries hmm Not the CONSERVATIVES!!! Why, oh why would anyone believe her?

Never mind, you'll feel better after the results are announced and you can come on here and have a rant...

" Labour will hold a Public Inquiry into the Panama Papers leaks
Labour will force MPs to declare shares they hold in offshore accounts
Labour will set up Special HMRC Tax Unit dedicated to investigating MPs & Lords tax affairs
Labour will levy a new “withholding tax” levied on abusive tax havens & taxed at source
Labour will force large firms to lodge their tax returns publicly to aid public scrutiny
Labour will set up a new public file on the tax returns of all individuals earning more than £1m
No public contracts for tax avoiders. Any firm bidding must publish their last 5 years’ returns
Existing public contracts awarded to firms based in havens will be repatriated to the UK
New Register of Firms who bid for government contracts listing their tax records
New Register that records the beneficial ownership of companies flushing out silent partners
Register of Trusts, in particular offshore trusts such as those used by politicians recently
Labour will work with banks to promote good corporate governance
A General Anti-Avoidance Rule to prevent tax avoidance through loophole exploitation
Labour will prise open the tax records of Crown Dependencies to make avoidance harder
Create an Offshore Trusts Levy. This will capture purchases of UK property from offshore trusts
Labour will clamp down on the use of Advanced Thin Capitalisation Arrangements (ATCA).
Close the “Mayfair Tax” Loophole stopping individuals treating carried interest as capital gains."

This is how Labour will pay for their promises.
Can't imagine anyone disagreeing with all this - unless they are tax avoiders themselves, of course.

As was said in a political discussion on labours manifesto, the only thing they didn't promise was a free puppy for every home . The list is ridiculously long ,as was said ,it is Corbyns next leader campaign

This too. No problem if you are not a Tory tax avoider.

You should vote Labour if you want an end to the housing crisis for your children and grandchildren.

" “Theresa May has been at every cabinet since 2010 and can’t sidestep her share of the blame for the Tory housing crisis. The number of home-owners has fallen by 200,000, homelessness has more than doubled and new affordable housebuilding is at a near-record low.

“After seven years of failure, the Conservatives have no plan to fix the housing crisis. A Labour government will back first-time buyers and build the homes we need, including 100,000 genuinely affordable homes to rent and buy a year by the end of the next Parliament.” "

Spoken by John Healey, who was Labour housing minister in the last Labour government as well as being shadow housing minister.
Michael Fallon committed no extra money for housing when on the Marr show today.

Anniebach Sun 14-May-17 11:05:24

Where are these houses being built, will planning laws be changed so thousands of houses can pop up anywhere , perhaps he will take Windsor park off queenie.

daphnedill Sun 14-May-17 11:17:26

Errmm... Theresa May has stolen that idea dj. She's promised to get more council houses built!

Planning laws do need changing so that NIMBYs have less power.

MaizieD Sun 14-May-17 11:25:26

Michael Fallon committed no extra money for housing when on the Marr show today.

Theresa May has stolen that idea dj. She's promised to get more council houses built!

Struggling to reconcile those two statements!

Has Fallon spoken out of turn? Quoted from the secret Tory manifesto rather than the one full of things purloined from other parties which will eventually be presented to 'the people'?

durhamjen Sun 14-May-17 11:30:49

"Labour have seized on Michael Fallon’s failure to pledge any new money for housing during his interview with Andrew Marr.

Asked how the Conservatives’ “housing revolution” would be paid for, Fallon said: “The money is coming from the £1.4bn we earmarked for capital expenditure from the autumn statement. It is not new money.”

Shadow housing minister John Healey said Fallon admission proved there was no substance to the government’s housing plan.

He said: “There’s no commitment on the number of new affordable homes or on new funding.”

In a statement he added: “The number of government funded social rented homes being built has fallen to fewer than 1,000 last year from almost 40,000 under Labour in 2009-10."

The rest of Healey's statement.

durhamjen Sun 14-May-17 11:31:39

Annie, you really need to decide which party you support.

daphnedill Sun 14-May-17 11:35:18

No, because it won't be the government which pays for council housing. Local authorities pay for it by borrowing, which is actually a sensible thing to do at the moment, because interest rates are so low. As soon as the houses are built, the councils start to receive rent and can pay back their loans. Asset holders are queuing up to lend their money, especially to reliable borrowers, such as councils.

The debts will appear on local authority balance sheets, not the government's. The biggest problem is probably NIMBYism, which is why planning laws need to be changed. Once farmers stop receiving EU funding, they will also form a queue - to sell their land for development.

I expect Conservatives have been told not to admit to any spending, because it tarnishes their image. hmm

Anniebach Sun 14-May-17 11:45:16

Try building houses in the Welsh National parks where many farmers live

. So stop people farming to build houses ? And where is the work?

daphnedill Sun 14-May-17 11:50:38

I wouldn't dream of trying. There's no work for a start.

Why is it that some people seem to think that the countryside is reserved for a few who are fortunate to live there, while people in cities are homeless?

There are loads of fields where I live. They're green and, frankly, a bit boring. Farmers are overjoyed, if their fields are part of a plan to build housing. They sell the land for millions, retire to somewhere warm, where they don't have to get up at the crack of dawn and work in all weathers.

daphnedill Sun 14-May-17 11:51:54

Why not stop farming in some areas, where it's not profitable and the land could be put to another purpose?

daphnedill Sun 14-May-17 11:52:47

Errrmmm...the Autumn Staement hasn't been signed off and most of it has been abandoned anyway.

Anniebach Sun 14-May-17 11:57:20

So the government chooses who should be allowed to keep their farms and who should be forced to sell? mmmmmm, everyone government controlled , you will live and work where we say

daphnedill Sun 14-May-17 11:57:33

Sorry! Forget that! I meant the Spring statement (or whatever it's called). Some of the Autumn statement has been abandoned, including the promise to allow online retailers a £1000 tax free allowance.

daphnedill Sun 14-May-17 12:00:07

What on earth are you going on about annie?

The government and councils don't need to force anybody to sell valuable land. They'll volunteer to do it themselves, if they know planning permission will be granted.

MaizieD Sun 14-May-17 12:06:45

New houses built in my part of the world don't exactly sell like hot cakes because there aren't the jobs here. Though they are a bit cheaper than in, say, Essex...

If we build over all our fields, dd what are we going to do when we can't afford to import food any more (bless Brexit)?wink

As I see it, the biggest problem is that there is plenty of land available but it's in the wrong place. If we could just stop the South East sucking in people and resources from the rest of the country and share the jobs around a bit we might have less problem in finding land to build on...

And, I'm a NIMBY; I moved to a semi rural area because I didn't want to live surrounded by other people's houses.

durhamjen Sun 14-May-17 12:26:31

North East has above average unemployment, below average wages, and above average numbers of zero hours contracts.

Doesn't add up, does it?

Shouldn't Fallon and May have got together?
Just been said that the Tories haven't said how they would finance the new housing. They can't stop the councils from raising tax and then tell them to build more houses. Something else on the back of an envelope.

Anniebach Sun 14-May-17 12:40:02

Daphne, you said -why not stop farming in some areas where it's not profitable

nigglynellie Sun 14-May-17 12:43:53

Oh no maizieD! What an admission! You'll get crucified on here!! grin
