This vid says a lot. Especially why the EU finds our government's attitude so incomprehensible

(it is about 8 mins long)

I would have expected more signatures on this petition by now.

I think anyone who voted Conservative should be hiding their head in shame gillybob, if they are complaining about University Fees, anything to do with the NHS, Fuel, Water, etc., etc., You voted in a government that believes the 'business' model is the one and only way of running everything in our lives - I am surprised they are not suggesting some sort of transaction charge for married couples having sex - and not only the business model and nothing else, but the unfettered business model working towards no rules, regulations or return to society.

Capitalism may have some things going for it but treating it like a religion is not great for the majority of people.

www.24housing.co.uk/news/benefits-freeze-would-create-half-a-million-more-people-in-poverty/

Just another half million. What's that compared to a few rich people sending billions offshore, to banks that used to be employing people in the UK?

The DexEU has agreed that it has the information about the impact studies on Brexit, but will not release it.

mollymep.org.uk/2017/09/26/foi-response-dexeu/

How can voters decide what the truth is when they are not told.

durhamjen Mon 09-Oct-17 17:51:12

This is the full response from the department, which says that it recognises there is public interest.

mollymep.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/FOI_SecretStudies-26.09.17-1.pdf

Again the PM has just said that the British people voted, but without the information that the DexEU has.
I am surprised that other MPs are not labouring this point.

I don't want independence Paddyann just fairness . I still believe we're all better together and better IN the EU too .

durhamjen Mon 09-Oct-17 18:28:11

I've just seen this.

Interesting.

Listening to Theresa May and the subsequent discussion this afternoon, followed by the commentary on radio and TV it appears they are getting very prepared for the cliff edge. Is that really what ALL the people who voted leave wanted?

CardiffJaguar Tue 10-Oct-17 11:04:10

In many cases yes. The legal side alone is a threat that many people do not know about because that has not been explained. Essentially the EU with the ECJ wants to take over all our legal system meaning we would no longer have our own laws.

whitewave Tue 10-Oct-17 11:05:38

Oh cardiff that is absolutely NOT the case.

durhamjen Tue 10-Oct-17 11:08:43

The ECJ has helped many of the UK workers by insisting that we keep workers rights.
I am sure many brexiteers wouldn't have voted to get rid of their rights.
When even the UN is saying that May is treating the disabled abysmally, they would realise the importance of the ECJ, IF THEY WERE TOLD HOW IMPORTANT IT IS.

There's one thing, I can't imagine any other EU country wanting to go through this at the moment. They will all wait and see what the outcome is for the UK before they even suggest a referendum.

yggdrasil Tue 10-Oct-17 12:09:55

CJ said " Essentially the EU with the ECJ wants to take over all our legal system meaning we would no longer have our own laws."

This is totally wrong. The word is subsidiarity. Laws are made at the level they are used for. Councils make bye-laws, which are enforced in Magistrate's courts. National Governments make state laws, which are enforced in England, Scotland, France etc according to the powers given to their courts.
And the EJC deals with matters that affect more than one country within the EU. So what you said above is MSM nonsense

GracesGranMK2 Tue 10-Oct-17 12:13:46

Just watching the DP and the guest of the day has suggested that Theresa May should be putting a high level cabinet minister, with proper resources, in charge of preparation for a 'no deal'. Could I suggest this is an ideal job for Boris?

ck33 Tue 10-Oct-17 12:57:23

???

durhamjen Tue 10-Oct-17 12:57:47

The man who won the economics prize wrote a thesis on the fact that humans don't act rationally.

theconversation.com/why-richard-thaler-won-the-2017-economics-nobel-prize-85404

That could fit on so many threads here.
Certainly Brexit shows that.

durhamjen Tue 10-Oct-17 13:05:51

Looking forward to this, GracesGran.

I suppose he can refuse to take another job but he surely cannot refuse to go if the PM says go?

Did anyone else see the bit on 'Breakfast' this morning about Yorkshire having more autonomy?
We are in Yorkshire at the moment and it all seems to be very prosperous with shops and restaurants busy. Not all the money can be in London!

GracesGranMK2 Tue 10-Oct-17 14:36:54

Bits of Yorkshire at prosperous but a lot of the money will come in from people either working in the cities or London. The jobs in many of the areas - to do often with tourism - are not that well paid. I certainly would be happy for it to have more autonomy though.

durhamjen Tue 10-Oct-17 16:50:58

Do you think the government will take any notice of Sweden and Norway about border posts?
