It is not given to me to start a threads on politics, I don't believe I have ever contributed to one either.
However I cannot let pass the comment from a conservative councillor currently skiing in the USA who wants the homeless and rough sleepers cleared from the streets of
Windsor before the wedding in May.
God forbid that visitors here to see an obscene and ostentatious picture of wealth and privelage should be confronted by the "have nots" of our society.

Presumably there will be a police investigation into the deaths at the Gloucestershire B&B and why this occurred. As they were being housed in a B&B then they were not out on the streets in the cold - could it possibly be drug-related?

Providing homes to get people off the streets is a solution to only part of the problems.

Perhaps you could read the article again, Jalima.

I will listen out for more information on our local news.

The level of support required by some of her guests is beyond what she is able to give. said the landlady

No police investigation.
It said that some of them were on drugs, but not all.
Your questions answered?

"Homelessness is a massive issue in Greater Manchester and the whole of the UK. It ruins lives, isolates people and they can become mentally or physically harmed. On average, people sleeping rough are 17 times more likely to be victims of violence. It is very difficult to put a figure on the number of people who are homeless. However, campaigners have revealed that over 3200 people are surviving without a home in Greater Manchester. This rates the region as having the highest rates of homelessness in the North West.

We want to raise awareness about this issue. If you sign this petition, not only does it show you care for people in need, it will help society take a huge step forward in challenging homelessness. If we receive over 100,000 signatures, parliament will have to debate it. "

There are more homeless people on Manchester's streets than have signed this petition on www.change.org

I am not sure why I am getting a lecture.

When someone is found dead there will be a post-mortem, possibly an inquest. If necessary, there will be a police investigation.
I have said that the problem of homelessness is far more complex than providing someone with accommodation.

I do not know why you are questioning me? Perhaps you could explain.

Jalima1108 Sat 06-Jan-18 23:14:34

A reporter asked a homeless man in Windsor about the council providing accommodation.
The man replied that yes, there had been a shelter - for four days over Christmas.

Sorry, the link doesn't work but I see that one I signed previously has resulted in success.

We were in Windsor on Saturday, a regular place for us to visit, and we noticed a big increase in rough sleepers in the two main roads in the town. We have never noticed them being aggressive. We sort out loose change to give to two or three of them each time.

I do not know the answer to this sad problem but it is definitely getting worse.

My husband died in a car crash 40 years ago

Same happened then except there was no disclose of interested allowed then

Anniebach Sun 07-Jan-18 10:14:33

When the press report these deaths they should also disclose what was the cause of death . The woman claims they are vunerable, were they addicts drug/alcohol, mentally ill, did any take their own lives ? Lazy reporting.

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Jan-18 10:19:51

It is lazy reporting anniebach and it is strange that I have not seen or heard it reported anywhere else in or on the local news.

It is best to have the full facts first before forming an opinion.

Anniebach Sun 07-Jan-18 10:34:17

It is lazy reporting Jalima . Pity these tragic deaths cannot be discussed without dismissing them with - more money is needed . How many who keep saying this have or have had any personal connections with rehab centres and mental health hospitals . So easy to type - more money needed

Jalima1108 Sun 07-Jan-18 10:39:01

These men must have been in the system somehow because the landlady would have been receiving rent - I don't think she was providing accommodation out of the goodness of her heart, although I know that some do.
However, that is just opinion, not fact.

Anniebach Sun 07-Jan-18 10:44:19

The woman who gave the interview said she worked there, money must be involved surely , she is the manager, who is the owner, council or private.

Anniebach Sun 07-Jan-18 11:07:19

Again an interview with a politician who is going to make claims .

No government can supply the money for the number of rehab centres needed . One in four now suffer from mental health problems. The answer ? Rehab centres in every town in the country, care homes in every town in the country, , mental health hospitals in every town in the country . Accomodation for every person homeless because of a relationship breakdown or thrown out of their home because of their addiction, teenagers leaving home because they don't get on with parents new partner

Then the problem of the chicken and egg, which came first the addiction or the mental illness

Anniebach Sun 07-Jan-18 11:12:57

There is help for homeless in Wales, a friend works with the homeless, every council must provide accomodation for a homeless person if the person is from their county

. Problem is the majority who sleep rough in Cardiff , Swansea etc refuse to return to their counties because there is - more going on in Cardiff and Swansea

Expects to be paid between £10-20,000 when he starts the job in February.

durhamjen Sun 07-Jan-18 11:55:33

MP for Windsor is Adam Afriyie.

politicalscrapbook.net/2018/01/manhunt-launched-for-millionaire-tory-mp-for-windsor-missing-since-clear-the-homeless-scandal/

Nothing to say on the matter so far.

Anniebach Sun 07-Jan-18 12:04:42

Under £400 pw for being responsible for the homeless

petra Sun 07-Jan-18 13:40:50

I see that lots of taxi drivers (in Windsor) are now speaking up about the 'homeless' in their town.
They are saying that they regularly take them home ( after begging on the street) to where they live.

Anniebach Sun 07-Jan-18 13:53:13

I hope they pay for the taxi with money received from begging not from their benefits Suppose it all goes into the same pot.
