Sir Christopher Meyer

I have just read that Sir Christopher Meyer, has been brutally beaten up at a London station this morning and hospitalised. A man and a woman have been arrested. It can be no coincidence that he is a former British Ambassador to the US and the US President is about to visit us. Sir Christopher has always been a consummate diplomat and a voice of reason, and if this has been carried out as some sort of perverted protest, I am appalled and ashamed of the kind of country we are becoming.

He has quite a high profile in the media but it is unlikely that he was targeted deliberately.

There have been some fake news websites attempting to make political capital out of Sir Christopher's injuries but there's categorically no evidence yet of any political motivation www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2018/jul/17/blog-posting/no-evidence-political-motives-ambassador-attack/
There's also been a report in the Times from an eyewitness who claims the gentleman may have been shoved by the two schoolchildren following a verbal altercation of some kind and fallen onto the platform landing on his face. His injuries, though obviously regrettable, were minor and his wife has confirmed he was on blood thinning medication which explains all the blood in the photo. The OP says "it can be no coincidence". Actually it can, and almost certainly is. Anyway, best wishes for a speedy recovery Sir C.

A man in his seventies has an altercation with two schoolchildren, they shove him so that he falls on his face and injures himself; lot of blood due to blood-thinning medication and only minor injuries.

So that's all right then?
If he had done it to them it would be regarded as child abuse.

Well said eazybee. Goodness he could still have broken a hip, arm, leg etc, or been fatally injured, fallen on the track or anything.
Clearly not entirely accidental. When Paw was still well enough to struggle to London, using two sticks, I used to go through agonies trying to walk behind as well as beside him to make sure he was not jostled - even accidentally.

Isn’t it funny how teenagers , who are after all young adults and many of them considerably bigger and stronger than some of us, are referred to as “school children” when it suits?

Jane10 Thu 19-Jul-18 12:19:36

So true MawBroon

Greyduster Thu 19-Jul-18 12:29:12

? Hmm.......

Salix Thu 19-Jul-18 12:34:47

No-one said it's OK eazybee, but one can say it's not OK without trying to put a political slant on it or using misleading words like "beaten to a pulp" as the fake media did.

Jalima1108 Thu 19-Jul-18 20:05:29

Some people are advocating that children the age of these school children should be given the vote ...

MawBroon Thu 19-Jul-18 20:12:55

To be fair, OP never used the phrase “ beaten to a pulp” nor did she quote any “ fake news”

I see that it appears that this man sustained his injuries as a result of a fall.

Ah but did he fall or was he pushed?
Not quite just a simple stumble or trip as this quote from an earlier post says
There's also been a report in the Times from an eyewitness who claims the gentleman may have been shoved by the two schoolchildren following a verbal altercation of some kind and fallen onto the platform landing on his face

Whatever happened he sustained some nasty injuries poor chap! If he was knocked out he may have no recall of the moments immediately before himself so will not know what happened. The teens are hardly likely to admit to causing his fall even if they did. There may have been an altercation and he may have turned away angry/distracted and tripped. Or they may have shoved past him and caused his fall. Whatever happened I do not think it was Trump related!

Meant to add that my 26 yr old nephew slipped at the top of station steps in London and was badly hurt. Lost teeth, broke his nose and damaged his elbow as well as general cuts and bruises. Metal and concrete are very unforgiving.
