Jura2, I don't want to kowtow to anyone. L am pleased to say that I can't wait for us to lose the shackles of the European Union and the dreadful European Court that undermines our laws. Don't mind trading, as we did before joining in the 70s, I just don't want to be ruled by Brussels. Our government may be far from perfect but at least we elected it and can get rid of it at the next election.

I have just read this entire thread (very entertaining) and am surprised that no-one has spoken up against the criticism of Mrs May's clothing choices. Whilst I agree that the red evening dress was not a brilliant choice, it wasn't that bad and there was no way she could have competed with Melania anyway - few of us could. Indeed, why should she do so? I think the PM mostly dresses very well indeed.

Lilyflower, the Queen has certainly showed hospitality to despots and tyrants, people who support beheadings and torture, so a childish, foot stamping Trump she could easily tolerate for a while. Why are people obsessed with how his wife is dressed? Trump was elected because he said what others were afraid to say, he put USA values to the front, he changes his mind on a whim and I won't watch him, he is embarrassingly boorish and embarrassing. The things he says are polically incorrect, but we are so busy not offending
anyone and not saying what needs saying, I wouldn't wish a Trump on anyone, but rather we need someone who can put this country first and have the strength to do it. I would have found it more difficult receiving Putin.
I find the behaviour of the Mayor of London and that obscene balloon, insulting to our country and the Queen. That Mayor is a joke, he is only interested in himself not our country.

And, for the avoidance of doubt, which 'dreadful European Court' are you referring to? The European Court of Human Rights, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the EU? Or the European Court of Justice which was set up to settle disputes on the implementation of EU law?

I did some law as part of a college course but I don't think we touched on the Common Market or the EEC at all.
The Treaty of Rome was in 1958 so perhaps we should have done.

The people did NOT elect Trump. Our out of date electoral college did. He got three million LESS popular votes than Clinton.

He has no understanding of history , he’s a loose cannon with his say anything he wants mouth. He’s a businessman who probably was sleeping in government class. My goodness the man never reads the daily written briefings and he’s proud of it. He has not much focus or attention span. He’s mean, crude and vicious. I want a president who will fight for us and not start wars all over the world and insult leaders. He doesn’t really care about the over two thousand children still not united with their family, nor the teens killed by gun violence. He cares only about those interests that serve him and his re election agenda. What leader, a year after getting elected, has rallies to make himself look better? He riles up the people with put downs and self righteousness behavior. Who does that? Dictators.

Apparently their tea with her maj was extended by over 20 minutes! Listening to his interview with Piers Morgan he only had good things to say about her too which is extremely gracious considering his non welcome to the UK.

The only courts that I want having a say in this Country's laws are the British Courts. Courts that stop us deporting criminals because they have a pet cat are not the sort that should be allowed to tell us how we can deal with foreign criminals. Human rights should be there for the genuine, not to stop us getting rid of offensive terrorists etc.
