both Margaret Hodge and Ian Austin now face disciplinary action , Margaret for telling Corbyn he was anti semetic and Ian for telling a close friend of Corbyn the party has become a sewer . Freedom of speech not allowed in the party.

Annie the table suggests a decline in racist incidents under JC leadership. What does that suggest?

Anniebach Tue 11-Sept-18 08:12:24

It,s untrue ?

Iam64 Tue 11-Sept-18 09:06:59

PECS I wonder how many of us feel as you do? I'm in the same camp. If we had a GE tomorrow, I'd vote Labour because of our local MP, he was born 3 miles away from the constituency, has lived in his constituency all his adult life and represented us since 97, before which we were marginal. There were threats to deselect when he voted no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn. He's an older MP and if we have a Momentum type imposed on the constituency I'd probably 'waste' a vote by going Green.
I could never vote Tory. I absolutely agree about Brexit - it's a real quandary. I'm also increasingly irritated by the platitudes shouted by those to the right of Genghis and those who deny there are any splits within the LP other than those caused by so called Blairites.

Labour has no chance in this constituency, been coming third since the seventies, untill then it was Labour. Our choices are Labour, Tory or Libs.

PECS" - Annie the table suggests a decline in racist incidents under JC leadership. What does that suggest?"

It suggests

1) That you are sweeping a MASSIVE issue under the carpet.

2)

It also suggests that Labour has forgotten a group, the Jews, who are likely to be more than a tad upset regarding a Jew-hating, Israel-hating, political party?

When does Corbyn stand as MP for Palestine?

Anniebach Tue 11-Sept-18 10:09:12

Day6, if only he would push off to Israel .

Trevor Phillips said Corbyn is anti semetic, I agree with Trevor Phillips , not blindly, on the evidence from Corbyn’s mouth and the Jews who are fighting anti semetism

trisher Thu 13-Sept-18 21:22:38

Day6
It also suggests that Labour has forgotten a group, the Jews, who are likely to be more than a tad upset regarding a Jew-hating, Israel-hating, political party?
In my opinion this is the most anti-semitic post ever made on GN. It is manifestly untrue because firstly Labour is supported by many Jews and secondly not all Jews believe Israel behaves in a correct manner towards the Palestinians. It does in fact what is completely anti-semitic it labels Jews as a race and does not identify them as individuals who think and act in ways which are different from each other.

Anniebach Thu 13-Sept-18 21:26:20

I believe Trevor Phillips

Anniebach Thu 13-Sept-18 21:28:40

Interesting, Jews can think in ways which are different from each other but not members/supporters of the Labour party

lemongrove Thu 13-Sept-18 21:32:26

Good post Day6

Some on here will never accept there is antisemitism worming it's way in the LP, and that's a fact.

trisher Fri 14-Sept-18 11:03:45

Article 3 of the IHRA definition of anti-semitism (which you all keep siting but how manyof you have read it?)
Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews.
Now I think Day6 is imagining it but that doesn't stop it being anti-semitic ! Perhaps Day 6 would like to apologise for such a statement. Or is it a case of only recognising anti-semitism when it invollves the Labour party or people passionate about Palestinian human rights?

Fennel Fri 14-Sept-18 12:15:46

Exactly Trisher. It's quite complex.
I think I posted a link earlier but here's another:
www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2018/08/full-text-ihra-s-working-definition-anti-semitism
I tried to cut and paste just the ?13 points but couldn't manage it.

Fennel Fri 14-Sept-18 12:16:21

11 points.

trisher Fri 14-Sept-18 12:22:14

Thanks Fennel it does shock me the way accusations of anti-semitism are being bandied about with no understanding of what it really is.

lemongrove Fri 14-Sept-18 13:42:51

sigh! Of course, trisher only the very few 'intelligentsia' of Gn can understand these things.Do give it a rest.

trisher Fri 14-Sept-18 16:14:08

lemon is it anti-semitic to accuse all Jews of holding the same opinions?
And is Day 6's comment anti-semitic?

Iam64 Sun 16-Sept-18 18:45:03

I apologise sincerely for being the world's worst at posting links. I've just read an article by the peerless Howard Jacobson about Jeremy Corbyn. Howard Jacobson grew up in Manchester's Jewish community.
I suppose the pro Corbyn posters, who genuinely believe Corbyn isn't allowing anti semitism to flourish in the LP will dismiss Jacobson, not least because the speech is printed in the Jewish Chronicle. I thought it was excellent.

Anniebach Sun 16-Sept-18 19:15:53

Iam, I have just read it and feel so emotional, he speaks for me , I have posted much of what he writes about but he is so eloquent. Hope you don’t mind if I post a link ?

Thanks anniebach- I tried and failed (again)
to post a link.

Anniebach Sun 16-Sept-18 19:46:30

The description of the wall mural , it shocked and upset me.

trisher Sun 16-Sept-18 20:31:13

Interesting to listen to the debate itself on Intelligence Squared, there is some laughter, but it is generally nervous and not really amused laughter. I think many of the audience were probably shocked by the pure and unadulterated character assassination. Chris Williamson speaking against the motion received far louder applause. Just listening to Anna Soubry for the motion.

paddyann Sun 16-Sept-18 21:06:04

Just watched the news and a Rabbi sounding off about anti semitism....what really angered me were the posters in the small crowd.Apparently we shouldn't be criticising Israels actions against the Palestinians or saying its akin to the Nazi 's treatment of jews .THATS anti semitism.Sorry but in my book Israel is guilty as charged ,their treatment of the people of Palestine is a disgrace and they should have been brought to justice over it long ago .ALL governments are or should beopen to criticism .I am not anti semitic ,I am anti Israeli government policy .

Anniebach Sun 16-Sept-18 21:08:42

How is saying we shouldn’t critcise Israel anti semetism?

trisher Sun 16-Sept-18 21:14:36

Really interesting debate and the second speaker against is possibly the most interesting. Ash Sarkar introduces the idea that Corbyn is about movement politics and progressing away from Parliamentary politics which she regards as out of date. It's a young persons view that I certainly hadn't considered.

Anniebach Sun 16-Sept-18 21:18:58

The Hitler Youth Movement possibly had the same effect .

“Tomorrow belongs to me “ that song is frightening
