So 50 MPs met to discuss getting rid of her, should we be counting the days? Or will she simply stay because there's no other suitable candidate and no one wants a poisoned chalice?

How could anyone, even a DM reader, possibly was describe themselves as a "proud leaver"????

All leavers should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for the damage they have already done to our once-great country, now the laughing stock of the world.

paddyann Sun 23-Sept-18 20:09:48

Its an ENGLISH brexit ,for England BY English tories ,the rest of us have had no say in any of it and most of us didn't want it.So please leave us out of it.I'm petitioning for English Independence, then they can sink their own boat and leave the rest of us to get on with our lives in the way WE want as part of Europe .

GillT57 Sun 23-Sept-18 20:20:52

Yes Annie. Corbyns behaviour has been and continues to be disgraceful. Day6 will you please stop with your silly name calling, as far as I can see, not many of us remainers on here are Labour voters, and even less ate fans of corbyn so please lay off the silly sweeping generalisations or we may start thinking you read the red top tabloids. It is the shocking lack of understanding of the non existent link between people's political views and their stance on Brexit that makes me realise how this bloody mess came about.

nigglynellie Sun 23-Sept-18 20:22:17

Being ruled by Brussels paddyann! Not very independent surely!!
No, I didn't propose anything MaisieD, I put forward a suggestion that you intellectuals might think appropriate to alleviate this problem of the 'easily lead'!
Laughing stock, I don't think so, or perhaps you have inside knowledge of worldwide opinion.

Diana54 Sun 23-Sept-18 20:47:47

English Independance now there's an interesting concept, it's been a long time since we have truly independant and able to do as we wish alone. Probably Victorian times when we really did rule the waves, even then there was a large contribution by Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

lemongrove Sun 23-Sept-18 20:49:32

Good post Day6 yes, UP EURS was a rather brilliant headline.?
Niggly of course, SNP voters would rather be governed by Brussels, or actually any country other than England ( they are still fighting, and losing, Culloden in their heads.

lemongrove Sun 23-Sept-18 20:51:41

Corbyn will promise the earth to get into power. My guess, is that if we did have a GE and Labour won it, he would not grant a second referendum at all.

Grandad1943 Sun 23-Sept-18 21:13:17

Well said Diana54. The leavers who would see Britain end the negotiations with no deal still have no answer to the Irish border problem or perhaps they do not realise there would be a very dangerous problem.

The above adds to the list of problems that they have no answer to , such as the problems at the ports, the airlines, the European driving licences and much more.

All we get is head in the sand rants and it will all be alright in fifty years time.

What a joke.

Anniebach Sun 23-Sept-18 21:40:45

Wrong Paddyann, Wales voted out 47.47% remain 52.53% out.

Wales is a country not a county of England

Diana54 Sun 23-Sept-18 22:28:22

I'm really not sure are they crazy or in denial there is no chance of a General Election while Tories have a majority. They control the agenda and will continue to do so.
Carry on Corbyn this is a farce worthy of any comedy film.

They really should move on to the party nomination system

Diana54 Mon 24-Sept-18 07:10:29

My radio turned itself on this morning for my gentle wake up and I dreamed that Labour had backed a Second Vote on Europe.
No they really had actually done something, forget the GE that's not going to happen, they have given TM a real problem. The EU are now going to be much less likely to move, they want a second vote to break the deadlock caused by DUP wanting no border.
The Tories are now going to scrabble around to find a deal but the EU will stonewall them all the way until that vote. Assuming the Labour Conference accepts the proposal and does not shoot itself in the foot again all they need is a leader that will show some leadership.

Perhaps as soon as parliament returns the sensible thing to do is to agree a second vote ASAP.

nigglynellie Mon 24-Sept-18 08:39:46

Presumably so long as it's the 'right' result a small majority will do. If it's the 'wrong' result with a small majority we will have to go again, and again and yet again till the ' right' result is achieved!! Of course each one being ' Once in a lifetime'!!
Who would ever believe any politicians promise of anything ever again?!! You can choose the colour of your car, so long as it's black!!

MaizieD Mon 24-Sept-18 09:55:35

As you've already told us many, many times that you don't believe what anyone says, nellie, I really don't understand why you are moaning on about a 'promise' made by a politician.

Why would that particular one be any more significant than any other politicians' statement?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 24-Sept-18 10:12:58

We were told 2 years ago that the referendum was a once in a lifetime vote.

The "People's Vote" as I understand it is not in or out, but whether or not we except the agreed Brexit deal.

If it returns a "no" we will still leave the EU but without a deal.

nigglynellie Mon 24-Sept-18 10:25:58

Peoples vote?!! Isn't that a referendum?! Why dress it up? To fool those easily lead people into thinking that its somehow something cosier and more user friendly and means something slightly different?!!!
So what you're saying MaisieD, is to always take with a pinch of salt anything a politician tells you either in their manifesto or in government. Wow! Why bother to vote at all? would seem a futile exercise if it's probably all lies anyway!

merlotgran Mon 24-Sept-18 10:36:17

So, if the next people's vote referendum is to vote on the deal - and so far we haven't got a deal, will anyone know what they're voting for? confused

Given all the endless party political broadcasts and campaigning in the run up to any election, Brexit will have happened before we are queueing up at the polling stations.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 24-Sept-18 10:44:12

The last thing we need is an election, especially as the so called opposition is far to busy deselecting it's MP's, and seems to be "a bit chaotic".

Diana54 Mon 24-Sept-18 10:51:09

That is the big problem we have heard all the arguments for 2 years now and have all decided IN or OUT. We know what IN means, we know OUT means nothing like the vision the Brexiteers portrayed 2 yrs ago

If we start voting on this deal or that deal most of us won't have a clue what we are voting for, lets get on with it and vote in or out.

If we wait until November for any new deal to get to parliament it's going to be February before we get any vote. That is exactly what TM wants because it will keep her in power longer.

MaizieD Mon 24-Sept-18 10:56:28

The "People's Vote" as I understand it is not in or out, but whether or not we except the agreed Brexit deal.

I think there have been as many interpretations of what '"The People's Vote" means as there are as to what 'Leave' means.

A vote that just asked if we accepted the 'agreed deal' or 'no deal' would be completely meaningless and not worth turning out for. None but the terminally stupid and disaster capitalists would vote for 'no deal' so whatever 'deal' had been agreed, however bad it was, would win by default.

Leavers will, no doubt, be mightily cheered by John McDonnell touring the radio studios this morning to say that Labour would only support this binary choice of crap or crapper as they wouldn't want a 'Remain' option. I expect that a few thousand more potential Labour voters he's just lost...

MaizieD Mon 24-Sept-18 11:14:37

So what you're saying MaisieD, is to always take with a pinch of salt anything a politician tells you either in their manifesto or in government.

That, nellie is what 40+ years of enfranchisement has taught me. Few politicians in power tell anything but their version of 'the truth'. With a lot of spin on it.

That 'once in a lifetime vote' nonsense was just a rhetorical flourish. In truth, Cameron must have known that he absolutely couldn't commit the country to it as a parliament (even though it wasn't even 'parliament' that said it!) cannot bind its successors. Which means that anything done in one parliament can be completely overturned by the next one.

Cameron should also have known that he was not constitutionally able to make such a promise; it was not in his power to make it without the approval of parliament.

For my information on the referendum I didn't bother with the politicians. I preferred to see what the experts had to say.

And, before any Leaver says that the experts were mostly Remainers so of course they would be pro-EU, I'd point out that they were pro_EU because they were experts and knew just how the EU and the rest of the world 'works'.

GillT57 Mon 24-Sept-18 12:24:40

GG13, we have no idea at all if the 'people's vote' will even happen, let alone what the content will be. I saw reports of the ghastly Mr Farage and his circus touring this weekend. DDavis, KHoey and NFarage did not have quite the enthusiastic rapturous welcome they expected I think. They ended up with a bus outside a football stadium in Lancashire, pretending that this was the crowd of supporters. Pathetic.

Jane10 Mon 24-Sept-18 13:01:40

The phrase 'People's Vote' really irritates me. All our votes in either council or general elections and referendums are people's votes. Pah!

lemongrove Mon 24-Sept-18 15:46:11

Since vast swathes of Labour voters voted to leave the EU,it won’t harm Labour if the choices of deal are binary, it’s only
The members at the conference who are demanding a choice of voting (the whole thing again) which I doubt will ever happen.
There is no need for an election either, Corbyn wouldn’t get a better deal than May.

lemongrove Mon 24-Sept-18 15:48:54

Jane I agree, grin ‘people’s’ anything is one of those phrases beloved by the left, it smacks of ‘the workers!’

OldMeg Mon 24-Sept-18 16:08:15

Oh dear, must have anything that smacks of the working class!
