So 50 MPs met to discuss getting rid of her, should we be counting the days? Or will she simply stay because there's no other suitable candidate and no one wants a poisoned chalice?

Anniebach Mon 24-Sept-18 18:52:15

I don’t believe a man with such an appalling memory,” I was at the wreath laying but don’t know if I was involved “

lemongrove Mon 24-Sept-18 20:33:03

No memory loss Annie just a very cunning man.

paddyann Mon 24-Sept-18 21:06:59

Oh Dear Niggly that old common misconception! The EU is responsible for only 5 % of our laws ,Westminster is responsible for almost 80% ,you tell me why we would n't be independent if we had control of 95% of our own affairs instead of our Neighbour taking a huge chunk of our revenue and giving us pocket money back while THEY spend it on things that we dont want ,need or that aren't anything to do with us.Its a no brainer .With the EU we get to keep the immigrants we NEED ,now I know England NEEDS immigrants too,but they want to cut off their noses to spite their faces.
Its a win win if we get shot of Westminster and stay in Europe .Shame the bigotted and the braindead appear to be in charge down there .

Anniebach Mon 24-Sept-18 21:11:18

Wales and N.Ireland Paddyann?

lemongrove Mon 24-Sept-18 21:45:49

As opposed to the bigoted and the braindead who are in charge of the SNP paddyann?
Do have a vote and leave the Union!.....Oh wait, you already had one, and common sense won the day.

Diana54 Mon 24-Sept-18 22:04:12

We do indeed have a lot of migrants in England from all parts of the globe, quite likely every single country, that includes migrants from Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Cornwall too.

We are happy to share our relative good fortune with you, if those of you in the regions think you are so hard done by, move, the grass is always greener but everything costs more here

Scots independance, I'd vote for it, because everybody should have the right to choose who governs them, although I forsee problems with the border just like NI.

trisher Tue 25-Sept-18 12:04:52

Diana54 where would you draw the line then? Two of my DSs have worked in London, were they migrants? Personally I would be quite happy to join with Scotland and stay in the EU. We could perhaps charge all those hen and stag parties coming up from the South for the cheap booze a nice bit of tax for coming here.
This idea that we can or even should try to do without immigrants is ridiculous. There are huge ties with the EU in so many areas and the people who will suffer the most as the funding is with drawn are ourselves. This is already happening in the arts and education. The application of the Erasmus funding is already under threat and many in education think it will fail.
Applicants are warned
For British applicants: Please be aware that eligibility criteria must be complied with for the entire duration of the grant. If the United Kingdom withdraws from the EU during the grant period without concluding an agreement with the EU ensuring in particular that British applicants continue to be eligible, you will cease to receive EU funding (while continuing, where possible, to participate) or be required to leave the project.’
In other words you might be left high and dry!

oldbatty Tue 25-Sept-18 14:40:39

isn't Cornwall in England?

lemongrove Tue 25-Sept-18 14:52:23

Who has said we should do without any immigrants at all?
Nobody on here.

oldbatty Tue 25-Sept-18 14:56:31

me

nigglynellie Tue 25-Sept-18 18:00:34

paddyann, where do you those laws from Westminster originate from? The EU! Do you seriously think that an independent Scotland won't be subjected to EU law? You'll be in exactly the same position as other small EU countries. You'll have to use the Euro s part of the deal and no doubt contribute to the future EU army. You may well think yourselves free and independent, but just like the others you'll be sucked in to become part of a federal state and all that entails. Well, good luck with all that, and rest assured that unlike the EU, we in England won't attempt to stand in your way, in fact it'll be a case of goodbye and good luck, you'll need it!

Diana54 Tue 25-Sept-18 19:27:44

Yes Cornwall is in England, they are another region that aspires to independence and indeed have their own language.

My very tongue in cheek point is the UK has welcomed large movements in people since the start of the industrial revolution, around 200 yrs, many have been from within the Btitish Isles, more recently from outside.
We need them all skilled and unskilled, if our own citizens don't want to do certain work, Care work, cleaning, truck driving and a whole lot more, at present migrants can be found to do the work but don't make them unwelcome our economy and essential services depend on them.

If Scotland does get independance they will be subject to the stupid migration rules as well.

MaizieD Tue 25-Sept-18 20:56:42

paddyann, where do you those laws from Westminster originate from? The EU!

I rather think that paddy is too intelligent to be sucked in by this nonsense, nelly, though I think her figure of 5% is probably a bit low.

And I won't say more than repeat the fact that the UK has made a very significant contribution to the framing of EU law over the years.

lemongrove Tue 25-Sept-18 21:07:30

‘A huge chunk of our revenue....and giving us pocket money back’ yep! Sounds like the EU.

nigglynellie Tue 25-Sept-18 21:18:29

Tell that to our fishermen! I'm sure it'll be a comfort to them! Good luck to Scotlands fishermen in the event of individual membership of the EU.

petra Tue 25-Sept-18 21:54:41

I've just been reading why de Gaulle blocked our joining, twice.
The eu were still working on the CAP policy. When it was 'worked out' (read fiddled) that france would be the biggest recipient, and still is, he welcomed us with open arms.

petra Tue 25-Sept-18 21:59:27

I read that one of the reasons Scotland voted against leaving the uk and then joining the eu independently was because they would have to join the euro.
BTW. All countries who join after 2020 will have to accept the euro.

lemongrove Tue 25-Sept-18 23:26:17

What will they have if they leave the Union but don’t join the EU ?? The Thistle has a nice ring to it.

OldMeg Wed 26-Sept-18 07:37:33

How dare you call members of the SNP ‘bigoted and brain dead Lemongrove. You have no idea what you are talking about. It seems that no one is allowed to have their own ipinions amd beliefs, because yours are the only ones that matter.

And name-calling is the extent of your ability to discuss politics.

Disgraceful

lemongrove Wed 26-Sept-18 08:49:14

Another one who doesn’t read posts properly!
Look OldMeg read the post above mine ( paddyann)
For the ‘bigoted and brain dead’ at Westminster quote.
Also I didn’t write SNP members but ‘those in charge’.
There are plenty of opinions other than mine on here including many of your own.
Put away your outrage.

nigglynellie Wed 26-Sept-18 12:07:54

But it's ok to refer to Tory politicians at Westminster as parasites?!! hmm

trisher Wed 26-Sept-18 12:40:43

Parasite-an organism which lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the other's expense. So arguably all MPs are parasites
Brain Dead-complete loss of brain function (including involuntary activity
Bigoted- unreasonably attached to a belief,
So although some SNP members (or those in charge) may be bigoted they are unlikely to be Brain Dead -I think that would have been spotted even in the House of Lords!
