gabriella you’re not biased? You admit to being a Tommy Robinson. Supporter. UKIP now part of the far right. Even Nigel Farage has left them
Farage fails to report 5 million gift!
Seriously, without creating bad feeling, I cannot understand it and don't know who to believe.
gabriella you’re not biased? You admit to being a Tommy Robinson. Supporter. UKIP now part of the far right. Even Nigel Farage has left them
crystaltipps well noted!
And here are the referendum results in political terms:
By Constituencies:
406 leave – 242 remain
By Voting Area:
263 leave – 119 remain
By Party:
Lab: 148 leave – 84 remain
Cons: 247 leave – 80 remain
By MPs:
246 Leave – 400 Remain.
It seems that our MPs are out of step. Which may be why Gina Miller went to court to put parliament in charge.
Parliament has now sent our PM on a fool’s errand.
Find it somewhat noteworthy that this thread has only managed 6 pages instead of the more usual 10/11.
The figures you give are two and a half years old, Grampie. Polling analysis and demographics has shown them to be inapplicable now.
But it's alright, you go on defending the result of a referendum won by lies, cheating, illegality and a healthy dose of Russian interference.
It seems that our MPs are out of step. Which may be why Gina Miller went to court to put parliament in charge.
Parliament has now sent our PM on a fool’s errand.
Could you translate this into some sort of clearly expressed thought, please?

Can we renegotiate the Irish backstop? The EU’s reply in full.

Jalima, I'm with varian too. Violent thuggery is happening. Perhaps you just haven't seen it.
On Today this morning we heard of all the suggested ways to change the backstop, none of them were new. I ask myself why these 'new' ideas are being batted around and, if there is something to negotiate with, why didn't they use it before? Are they all stupid? I can't really believe they are so what game are they playing? Maybe they think we are stupid?
I think most of them are past caring now. They know they will be ok whatever happens.
Why this need to change the backstop? Leavers say the border issue will be easy to fix . If it’s so easy to fix the backstop won’t be used.
Is it true that it was Davies that first put forward the idea of the backstop?
This came into my news feed today. Thought it might be of interest!

”Why my dad’s purchase of a rusty old Rover is the perfect Brexit parable”

MaizieD,
Sorry for not being clear.
Our courts ruled for Gina Miller in that our Parliament must be in charge of Brexit instead of our Government.
It was one of the many ways in which Remainers tried to overturn the vote to Leave the EU.
BTW, I voted Remain but instead of overturning the result I think we should examine why we lost.
Some claim we lost because of austerity so I look at the causes of austerity and see Gordon Brown breaking his own rules for balancing taxation with spending.
He also honoured the leader of RBS as "the Shred" took more reckless risks to become the largest bank in the world.
Then came the global financial crash.
Austerity is our attempt to rebuild our public finances which is taking more than a decade to put right.
This is one of the many reasons why I see the root causes of Brexit in the Major, Blair and Brown eras when those EU treaties caused much angst and not much explanation or widespread debate.
As you say, the main-stream media didn't help either.
I think there are two main reasons why remain lost Grampie -
one - is that for decades the EU has been repeatedly blamed by all governments for their own failures whilst the successes and rights gained in and via the EU have been lauded as the our government (any colour) being brilliant.
And two - so many people were sick of Cameron that they voted leave just to give him a good poke. Like the guy on the phone-in the next day in who lived in Spain who voted leave as a protest because “it could never happen”
Of these, the first, I think is the main issue.
MaizieD,
“Polling analysis and demographics has shown them to be inapplicable now.”
Kindly update us on how many of our 648 constituencies now support Remain.
Thanks.
For many decades the people of Britain felt they were conned into the EU - A Federal Political controlling hub. We accepted the Common Market but have never accepted political, economic and legislative control. From year to year, the British Labour/Tory and Lib Dem parties pretended to listen to the people who expressed discontent with the EU so they pretended to say they will act... just to gain votes. In the end, Cameron put it in his manifesto, just to get elected but he had to carry it on and set a referendum date, never in his wildest dreams did he expect the leave EU vote to win the day. Thats what happened - the EXIT voters won the referendum. The vote was to leave not for deals and trickery. Being outside the EU gives Britain and its people sovereignty - Rule of Law under our on legislator (parliament) and our Supreme Court is the final arbiter. In other words... we control how we are governed. Not some bunch of unelected slime. We also voted for border control and trade deals outside the EU > WTO. Sadly the rotten MPs have played skullduggery in obedience to their money men... globalists. There is also a significant number of people who want a second referendum called - REMOANERS - these people are contemptuous to the democratic process and speak as if a referendum had never taken place. I voted exit EU and I place very high importance to the democratic process of a referendum. It will be a very serious mistake if the REMOANERS get their way.
Can you tell me what rules were actually imposed on this country by the EU as I thought we had the power to veto most things. I would like concrete examples please, not bendy banana stuff. I would also like to know what will happen if we trade under WTO rules only.
Try some of these Labaik :
Every time you muy a new computer (or similar device) there’s yet another IEC cable (“kettle flex”) in the box. If you are replacing a PC you plug the old computer’s power cable into the new PC and throw the new cable into a heap of unused ones. It’s an EU law which makes it illegal to ship any such device without a power cable even if the power cable is detachable and could be sold separately or more sensibly, supplied free only if requested. The environmental cost of making and scrapping unused power cables must be enormous.
They’ve mandated a power reduction in vacuum cleaners. They thing this saves electricity. What it does do, is cause one to spend twice as long on the same cleaning. And possibly, use more electricity in the process!
The tampon tax. The UK government wants to reduce VAT on tampons and other female sanitary products to zero. It’s a tax that should never have existed. But the EU won’t let us reduce it below 5%.
buy
NotSpaghetti,
Of course we have a problem when we may choose not know who is responsible for our failure to drop VAT to zero on vital sanitary products.
Having more than one governmental organization to blame is the result of the EU not being clear on the rights (and responsibilities) of member nations.
The United States of America is crystal clear on States' rights probably because the USA started with an agreed upon Constitution.
Many of us who wouldn't mind being in a United States of Europe (as implied by 'ever closer union') want first to understand our country's inviolable rights.
Sigh. Just need someone to mention the EU and bendy bananas and we have Brexit Bingo
Urmston my laptop cable is different from the one with my previous laptop and so is DH's. Perhaps the reason for this is to do with safety?
We have 2 vacuum cleaner which are perfectly adequate and are happy to help the environment.
Was it the EU which brought in all the A/A* ratings for white goods? That is similar and surely a good thing?
I agree about the tampon tax.
How would you balance that against all the things we will lose?
I ‘m sure Nonnie there will be many more examples that could be found if one had the time (or the inclination) to look them up. I don’t (and actually all these links etc can be a bit daunting in my opinion).
My intention here was just to show a few as a ‘snapshot’ to Labaik as she asked for them, to demonstrate that our veto didn’t always work.
However there is a divergence of opinion sometimes between us and the E.U. and these examples highlight this. Once we leave we can take back control.
Johno: ...^we control how we are governed. Not some bunch of unelected slime^.
Perhaps you would like to rephrase this.
...^people who want a second referendum called - REMOANERS - these people are contemptuous to the democratic process and speak as if a referendum had never taken place. I voted exit EU and I place very high importance to the democratic process of a referendum^.
Your comments reveal a lot about your attitude to those who dare have a different opinion.
I find the notion that a second referendum would be undemocratic and unforgivable very strange. We have come a long way with consumer issues and we accept that if we buy something, take it home and then realise it is not what we wanted, we take it back to the shop. No questions asked. The same applies when we take out insurance policies. We then have a 'cooling off period' and can cancel the insurance and get a refund. In other words, we can change our minds.
We don't often hear that this procedure is 'undemocratic'.
