A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 11:12:34

Rowantree I agree with so much of your posts.
My son left Labour for the Green Party as well.
As for Hatton returning really it can be regarded as inconsequential and a bit of a joke. He was a Marxist, apparently now he isn't. He is a broadcaster and some say (he denies it) a property developer in Cyprus. But really is he going to change party policy ? Of course he's not. Perhaps he's a true example of "Anyone who isn't a socialist at 20 hasn't a heart, anyone who isn't a capitalist at 30 hasn't a head"
(I realise this is almost a misquote and there are lots of versions of it.)

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 11:19:42

Annie please will you stop making accusations about other posters. No one has "dismissed racism" As I have often posted my very left wing aquaintances are among the most active people in the country working to stop racism and protesting about those who promote it.
You have posted about attacks on Jewish communities and that is terrible, but where I live it is the Muslim community who have suffered, have been subject to attacks and verbally abused. And the very left wing (communists even) are constantly working to support and stand with them.

Rowantree Tue 19-Feb-19 11:23:31

trisher I'm not concerned that he might change party policy. I'm concerned that the likes of the Daily Hate and anyone seeking to further de-stabilise the Labour Party might use his return as Evidence Against - which is why I'm wondering... why now?

Rowantree Tue 19-Feb-19 11:30:25

Excellent post,*trisher*.

Annie It seems that sometimes cannot resist making offensive or hurtful comments towards those you disagree with. It might help if you softened your tone a little.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 11:46:50

Rowantree I have not referred to any poster, you referred to me spluttering , so which of us should not make personal comments

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 11:47:16

So business as usual in labour then? Racist attacks, security for women at their own party conference, bullying, intimidation and vitriol.

Business as usual in Tory land. Austerity hard Brexit the ERG!!!

And you think a centre party isn’t needed?

I think you may find atom watson, Anna Soubery and many many others resigning and many many business leaders like Alan sugar etc willingly back this new party.

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 11:49:12

That Derrick Hutton has been let back into the party says it all. Utterly disgraceful

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 11:55:51

Mycatisahaker it has been explained this morning - there are only a small number of anti semites in the party !

So that’s ok it seems

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 12:11:32

Indeed my view is anyone who remains in the Labour Party by default are condoning anti Semitism they just don’t want to look in the mirror.

Shameful.

I am waiting for Tom Watson to resign. I thought he looked very very upset and angry yesterday and embarrassed to be associated with today’s labour. He’s a decent bloke I hope he listens to his conscience

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 12:14:46

And as far as I can see Anniebach hasn’t made any personal remarks! It was remarked that she was spluttering.

IF you support the Labour Party as it if now and don’t want to be called out for condoning anti senisemitism and bullying then leave the party or wear the cap.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 12:38:21

Labour candidate selections will start in the seven constituencies next week.

trisher Tue 19-Feb-19 12:47:54

Mycatisahacker Annie said , I am quite aware of the views of Corbynites , they choose to dismiss racism I do not
You may be unaware that it has been a long-time policy of Annie's to label anyone left wing as a "Corbynite" I have often been called that and frequently a communist - neither of which I am. By saying what she did Annie was (as always) attacking anyone who has views slightly to the left of hers. It is interesting that untill the Iraq war most left wing Labour supporters tried to stand behind Tony Blair, for the sake of unity but those on the right of the party are unable to behave with similar restraint.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 12:50:58

I will not support racism for the sake of unity or anything else . Racism is vile, evil, wicked, ok ?

Urmstongran Tue 19-Feb-19 12:58:55

This band of 7 - They all want a second vote, except one that involves a by-election!

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 13:08:54

Well it’s been shown that corbynites do condone racism unless you think Jewish MPs, the Jewish council and many complainers are all lying?

Tom watson the deputy leader and Emily Thornbury agreed with him. I can’t see why you can’t compute. Baffling.

I do agree these 7 should have by elections though as I don’t think it’s acceptable to leave your party but keep taking that salary without going back to your constituency whatever party you leave.

I think the 7 would do well and most of them would win.

Davidhs Tue 19-Feb-19 07:13:15

' Is antisemitism really an issue that affects how the average person votes because personally I don’t give a sod,'
----

And Anniebach is the one being called out for saying :-

" I am quite aware of the views of Corbynites , they choose to dismiss racism I do not".

Couldn' t make it up!

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 13:50:33

I don’t think so Mycatisahaker, momentum are at work now .

Mike Gapes has been a PM for 27 years , he is 62 years old

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 13:57:23

Corbyn is to provide life long learning for all ,

Now being asked his opinions of the seven who left the party yesterday

And being asked when he is going to call for a Second referendum

1. Regrets the MP’s left, they were elected on his policies

2. In his list to Mrs May he included a second referendum

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Feb-19 13:59:30

I object to being called a "Corbynite" and implicitly a racist because I want to see a more equal society, a programme of building council houses, stopping right to buy, not setting up our NHS for privatisation, not being relaxed about homeless people on the streets, or about food banks. These are not extreme views in my opinion.

Supporting each other, wanting everyone in this rich country to have a decent standard of living is somehow seen as an unreasonable ambition.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 14:01:03

And wanting racism tackled is unreasonable?

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Feb-19 14:02:58

"Life long learning for all"
Is this a bad ambition?
Did nobody ever learn at night school?
Should we stop wanting to learn as we age?
As employment changes, surely we need to keep learning our whole lives long, in order to be flexible for one thing, never mind keeping our minds alive.

How anyone can think that learning is a bad thing is beyond me.

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Feb-19 14:03:54

Of course wanting an end to racism is not unreasonable, that is just a silly remark.

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 14:09:21

I think though Corbyn seems to have built a cult like almost fervent following if supporters so the old broad church labour was and should be has gone.

Any criticism of him personally is not tolerated by his supporters so you have to be a corbinista to be in the party now. Hence the split.

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 14:10:27

But tackling racism can’t be an aim!!!

It has to be done and dealt with not lamented about or ignored.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 14:11:06

It wasn’t a remark it was a question

Can the country afford life long learning for all ? Nothing wrong is wanting it , nothing wrong in wanting to pay off students debts , where is this forest of money trees ?
