A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 16:08:09

Rowantree if my Palestinian dad was alive he may have got on well with your dad! As a family in UK have always had friends that echoed the multi cultural community dad was a part of when growing up in Nazareth, Haifa & Jerusalem!

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 16:09:19

No PECS Corbyn praised the wall mural, but didn’t look closely ! He was on a Facebook group attacking Jews, he didn’t read the posts !, he paid tribute to terrorists who murdered innocent Olympic athletes, but could remember if he was involved, he turned down an invite to visit The Holocaust Museum in Israel, he didn’t have time.

Rowantree I had no idea what your faith is. But anti semitism exists in the Labour Party so cannot be ignored , you choice not to believe it

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Feb-19 16:09:38

Would that there were more people like both your fathers, PECS and Rowantree.
The world would be a better place.

Iam64 Mon 18-Feb-19 16:10:03

Rowantree, of course your father’s support of Palestine doesn’t make him anti Semitic. Neither does it make my Jewish friends who oppose the actions of the Israeli government towards Palestine anti Semitic. The constituents, LP members who called Luciana Berger foul names are anti Semitic without question.

Rowantree thank you for your informed and personal experiences. Your dad is much to be admired for his views and stance.
One of the problems on these threads is that some people refuse to discuss things but simply use anti-semitism as a weapon to attack Corbyn and anyone they consider left wing. It is in my opinion a disgusting use of something which has caused so much trouble and sorrow, but there you are they are happy to do so. It saddens me to see the Labour party which has always violently opposed racism, fascism and anti-semitism brought to such a state by those who profess to believe in its values. The left wing of the Labour Party, communists and others have always stood up against anti-semitism and fascism. Hence the Battle of Cable Street over 80 years ago when the communists and the Labour party prevented a fascist march which the police wanted to happen. One wonders which side some of the posters on here would have been on.

Amazing that Naomi Corbyn (nee Josling) was there (apparently)

I wonder what she would be thinking now?

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 16:44:49

Perhaps she too would have admired the wall mural Jalima

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 16:47:41

Iam any use of someone's heritage/race/religion to demean or abuse them is absolutely to be challenged and perpetrators sanctioned. Racism has no place in any political party or in wider society.

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 16:57:23

Why is it amazing that NC was there Jal and ab why might she have admired the mural? I’m puzzled. Oh and ab I think it was clear from Rowan’s post re her Jewish family.

Julia9TC Mon 18-Feb-19 17:01:51

Very interesting question. Yes, who? i think we should be told.

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 17:10:26

What of the views of the 7 MP’s who supported a people’s vote and are angry Corbyn hasn’t supported a people’s vote ,
Yet at the conference last year was it not said , 1st a general election, 2nd a second referendum / people’s vote ?

Day6 Mon 18-Feb-19 17:15:50

Oh dear. Breakaway MP Angela Smith is now embroiled in a racism scandal and has had to make a public and grovelling apology - on the first day of the group's existence. Not a good start.

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:22:49

I'm sure they would, Jalima and that doesn't surprise me at all.

How long have you been in the Labour Party, out of interest?

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 17:23:16

I think it’s a start to getting labour back yet again from the vile racist bullying hard left. They are twins to the vile racist hard right.

Hope Yvette Cooper David Lammy and some sensible Tories might join too. Also Lib Dem’s.

Fingers crossed. Since Corbyn took over I have no party to vote for. I feel excited today.

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:26:14

Sorry Jalima I can't see why I posted that comment now - total aberration and must be in answer to someone else but can't find that either!!! blush

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Feb-19 17:29:00

Yes AS did well didn’t she - what sort of committed anti racist has that sort of vocabulary in her head?

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 17:30:54

I thought Tom Watson sounded ashamed of his party.

He would be he’s a decent labour man

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:31:14

Ohhhhh, Hard Left, schmard left!

We've already done Tory Lite under Blair - haven't you had enough yet?

We aren't going to agree on this one, people, but I'm at a loss to think of a 'sensible Tory' I'd want to ally with. I feel the opposite to Mycatisahacker - I felt utterly despondent about the future of the Labour Party until JC took over as leader. Granted, he's been a bit shit over Brexit, as has the whole Remain camp tbh - too little, too late. But for my money, his values, which INCLUDE opposition to racism, are mine too.

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:32:49

PECS thank you!
My dad wears his Palestinian badge all the time in support.

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 17:37:16

Annie it is very clear you strongly dislike JC and you keep repeating the same situations as evidence of anti-Semitism. These have been debated and disputed ad infinitum.

I have said on several occasions that a) I would never be blind to anti-Semitism and b) that I am disappointed in JC as a leader of the LP and on his European stance.
But I do still recognise his commitment to core Labour ideals which I also espouse.

It is possible to be a supporter and still disagree with aspects of someone's political opinions

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 17:40:39

Same for me Mycatisahaker, I cannot vote for a liar and a hypocrite

Rowantree Mon 18-Feb-19 17:43:38

Totally agree PECS and your last statement holds true for anyone in any party. That is democracy, surely? Or a part of it, at any rate.

Annie is done with anti-semitism now, it appears....

Anniebach Mon 18-Feb-19 17:44:22

PECS sorry but I don’t understand how you can trust Corbyn , is he committed to anything ? He has always wanted out of the EU but didn’t support leave . He sits on the fence and waits

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 17:45:21

Rowantree we are on the same wavelength politically.. maybe our shared Semetic roots wink

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 17:47:08

I trust people who stick to their principles!
