A Party Political Broadcast on behalf of The Brexit Party is on BBC1
tonight 18.55pm.

Nonnie Fri 24-May-19 11:51:00

On reflection I will leave it there for everyone to see how nasty some Leavers are. Total disrespect for such an appalling thing to happen to another GN. I have no history of being other than truthful and I have never twisted anyone's post as has happened to me time and time again and never with an apology. I doubt I will get one now.

It is one thing having a different opinion to others but this is abuse.

GabriellaG54 Fri 24-May-19 12:04:17

'made it abundantly clear' does not explain exactly what the guy handing out the voting paper said or did to influence.
Obfuscation.

Nonnie Fri 24-May-19 12:14:50

No G54 I cannot remember the exact words, you should understand that we were in shock at the time. Why do you want to know anyway? Are you calling me a liar? Do you not believe/refuse to believe me? You should be ashamed

GabriellaG54 Fri 24-May-19 12:21:25

The woman to whom.the complaint was made (who was 'overseeing' proceedings) did not, according to Nonnie, go inside after hearing her complaint (which means she was outside)
One would hope that the woman took the name and address of the complainant and perhaps other contact details so that a proper investigation could be launched. That would indeed be taking it seriously.
I would, had it been me, have expected the woman to return inside immediately and either have the person removed or had a stern word before he handed out any more voting slips.
Was the polling clerk's influence verbal or by his indication of a place on the voting slip?
Mine was handed to me already folded in half.

GabriellaG54 Fri 24-May-19 12:32:11

Did I call you a liar Nonnie? No.
Did I say that I didn't believe you? No.
I did write that I found it unbelievable that a polling clerk would say or do anything to influence a voter in front of colleagues and the general public.
Telling me that I should be ashamed (of something I clearly haven't written) is very wrong.
You are jumping to conclusions and it's a mountain made out of not a lot.
An indiscreet remark at worst. Not IMO, shock value to the extent that one can't even remember what was said. It could only have been brief.
Goodness me...?

GabriellaG54 Fri 24-May-19 12:37:50

'Appalling' and 'shock' are not words I'd use to describe the effect of a very brief utterance which, I hope for the well being of all concerned, will be rigorously investigated.

Urmstongran Fri 24-May-19 13:34:04

Nonnie has form - her feelings are well known to be hurt quite often. I have found (to my cost) that it is better to disengage.

MaizieD Fri 24-May-19 13:36:19

Jeez, the hounds are out in force today...

Urmstongran Fri 24-May-19 13:41:05

Makes a nice change sticking up for ourselves just every now and again! That’s why it seems worthy of comment I suppose....

lemongrove Fri 24-May-19 13:44:45

Some posters have an appallingly thin skin!
What all need to remember on any forum is that
A) we don’t know you
B) Any personal anecdote/comment is quite unverifiable.

lemongrove Fri 24-May-19 14:10:04

.....and not to take posts too seriously.

Labaik Fri 24-May-19 14:18:32

You mean to say that the current state of British politics is something to 'not take too seriously'. Are you serious about that sad ?

lemongrove Fri 24-May-19 14:21:42

No Labaik I am not saying that at all......I am saying not to take GN posts too seriously.Quite a different thing altogether.

Bridgeit Fri 24-May-19 14:44:23

What is the point then Lemons?
For some of us ,this may be the only place that we get to interact with others & to share opinions.
To you it may be just something you engage in when your bored etc etc . To others it is a lifeline

MaizieD Fri 24-May-19 14:49:23

Well, lemon, you can be absolutely sure that I never take any of your posts seriously. In fact, I rarely bother to read them. I'm sure this is mutual.

Bridgeit Fri 24-May-19 14:53:16

What a sad bunch of Gnetters we are!

GabriellaG54 Fri 24-May-19 14:53:49

As a pacifist, there are certain things I would never do or say but some people... (flexes fist)

Labaik Fri 24-May-19 15:09:29

confused [again]...

Urmstongran Fri 24-May-19 15:38:30

I don’t think we’re sad!
?

Dinahmo Fri 24-May-19 15:48:30

Nonnie - I must first apologise for misspelling your name on Thursday. I've only just read this thread again. Secondly, I hope that the comments on here from a few individuals haven't upset you.

GillT57 Fri 24-May-19 15:50:37

Varian. I think the BBC need reminding too that 'The Brexit Party' is NOT a political party, it is at most a pressure group.

a group that tries to influence public policy in the interest of a particular cause

Even if GG54 and her buddies have paid their dues to worship at the feet of Farage, he is not a Member of Parliament, and has tried 7 times to do so.

MaizieD Fri 24-May-19 15:58:29

I'm afraid it is a political party, GillT57. It is a registered political party. It wouldn't have been able to get a free mailing of its EP election leaflet to all registered voters if it wasn't.

Urmstongran Fri 24-May-19 16:08:50

Thank you for clarifying that MaizieD
?

crystaltipps Fri 24-May-19 16:16:32

It just has no members, and is undemocratic. I think it’s called a dictatorship, or maybe more accurately autocratic.

GillT57 Fri 24-May-19 16:16:49

I stand corrected Maizie, but I thought that a political party had to have a membership? The Brexit party does not as far as I am aware. Still, in this alternative universe that we are living in at the moment, I am not sure of anything anymore. A country that can even consider having a liar like Boris as party leader/PM needs to have a good look at itself. If we think we are being mocked internationally, we ain't seen nothing yet! Can you imagine Boris and Trump in the same room? Clash of egos and hair, and morals and ability to tell the truth and ....oh it depresses me even more as I think of it.
