Sadiq Kahn’s views on Donald Trump - unprofessional?

Not sure if gransnetters outside of London know what our mayor is saying, but he’s going way over the top in my opinion.
He really needs to keep his personal hatred of another politician to himself, especially a politician who’s one of our greatest allies.

What do you think?

EllanVannin Mon 03-Jun-19 14:09:40

In his way, crystaltipps----yes. Did Kahn ?

trisher Mon 03-Jun-19 14:47:39

In his way EllanVannin Since when has a racist mysoginist Islamaphobe supported any one who is different and certainly not a left wing, muslim Mayor, of Pakistani descent!

varian Mon 03-Jun-19 14:54:27

Does anyone know who started this unseemly spat?

Elvive Mon 03-Jun-19 14:56:54

Can we once and for all nail exactly who is " the PC brigade", either on this site or in the wider world.

SirChenjin Mon 03-Jun-19 14:57:08

I think that if you behave in the way that Trump does then you have to accept that people will take offence and will vocalise their dislike for your actions and behaviours. The fact that you're the POTUS doesn't protect you from that - and if the Queen spouted the same bile and hatred then she'd find herself on the receiving end of worse from people across the UK before she even ventured across the pond.

Please can somebody back up their claims that Khan is a horrible man and is sewer level?

MawBroonsback Mon 03-Jun-19 15:03:16

I'm certain that the present Mayor of Washington D.C. Muriel Bowser, would never have permitted unflattering blimps of HM Queen Elizabeth to be shown or flown had HM ever made an official visit during her tenure
But the Queen has never made or is likely to make offensive and insulting remarks about the Mayor of Washington DC, to attempt to show partiality regarding election candidates or interfere in the domestic matters of the US

So not a fair comparison.

Alima Mon 03-Jun-19 15:17:29

Anyone know if Sadiq Khan is a remoaner or leaver? Not very statesman-like from either of them is it? Certainly not a good example to yer average chuck- a - milkshake man.

Gonegirl Mon 03-Jun-19 15:25:40

Sadiq Khan always seems ok to me. I like him.

Fennel Mon 03-Jun-19 15:30:13

As someone said on another thread, Khan confines his criticisms to Trump's policies, while Trump makes it personal.

crystaltipps Mon 03-Jun-19 15:54:46

I voted for Khan ( and I’m not a labour voter) in order to stop the Tory candidate whose campaign verged on the racist. Boris was a useless mayor, told lies, wasted money and was lazy, Sadiq’s not brilliant but he’s done a few good things.

eazybee Mon 03-Jun-19 16:08:56

Sadiq Khan is extremely unprofessional; we all know how Trump behaves but it doesn't justify behaving like him.

As childish as flying insulting balloons and mounting a protest march.

gulligranny Mon 03-Jun-19 16:21:33

I was shocked when Sadiq Khan said that we shouldn't be welcoming to London someone whose views we didn't agree with! In that case there would have been a lot of state visits where there should have been demonstrations such as those against Trump, but not a word was heard. So all very selective, then....

And as has been said, totally unprofessional by both of them, and so blooming undignified.

trisher Mon 03-Jun-19 16:23:51

As I have said on another thread he has a sense of humour a blimp of him in a bikini was flown as well. It's a joke FFS.

Glammy57 Mon 03-Jun-19 16:34:27

I totally agree with Trisher. There is too much Islamophobia in this country. At least Mr Khan is articulate and polite, unlike the ghastly Trump!

EllanVannin Mon 03-Jun-19 16:36:27

Could those who are crowing about racism please define the meaning of the word in which you accuse others of being?

Intolerant ?--------yes! Racist ?-------no !

whywhywhy Mon 03-Jun-19 16:38:25

We might not like Trump but we have to tolerate him as he is the President of USA and this country can be valuable to us at all times. It's best to just not pass judgement as Khan has taken it upon himself to do. He would do well to keep quiet.

Elvive Mon 03-Jun-19 16:43:01

EV, where has anybody mentioned race?

I gave the link which concerned Trumps attitude to diversity but to be honest I could have picked any number of others. I chose that one as being particularly offensive.

What is this brigade that goes round preventing people from telling it how it is?

EllanVannin Mon 03-Jun-19 16:43:33

I've never felt the same since the death of Lee Rigby.

Elvive Mon 03-Jun-19 16:44:36

and the connection is......

Glammy57 Mon 03-Jun-19 16:50:30

EllanVannin, if you really “have never felt the same since the death of Lee Rigby, I suggest you discuss this with a counsellor. In my humble opinion, it is unhealthy to hold onto these negative feelings for six years!

Elvive Mon 03-Jun-19 17:16:00

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump
At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"

BIG FAT LIE

Day6 Mon 03-Jun-19 17:29:48

I read in an article today that a defamatory image of a head of state (and a UK ally) flying over the capital city would be shot down by the police in most countries - no questions asked.

It's bloody rude, pathetic and infantile. The fact that the mayor of London gave his permission for it to fly is disgraceful imo. Khan has shown no diplomacy and embarrassed the nation.

The inflatable effigy was granted permission Friday to fly in the face of Trump’s state visit by London’s first Muslim mayor after crowdfunders raised more than £50,000. Sadiq Khan wasn’t satisfied with approving the visual gag: He also directed a withering tirade at Trump, welcoming him to the city by comparing him to “the fascists of the 20th century.”

Those infantile protesters do not speak for me, nor does Khan. I feel ashamed to be British sometimes.

SirChenjin Mon 03-Jun-19 17:33:54

Isn't is great then that we don't live in a country which instructs the police to prevent freedom of expression? Or with a population that doesn't seek to challenge a politician with such bigoted views as DT?

Khan certainly hasn't embarrassed me.

Day6 Mon 03-Jun-19 17:38:45

Isn't is great then that we don't live in a country which instructs the police to prevent freedom of expression?

Hmmm hmm

SOME freedom of expression is OK then? Other expressions get howled down by PC liberals and never see the light of day.

Makes you wonder...
