Does anyone else think that Jo Brand's "joke" was in bad taste? Talking about the milkshake throwing she said "Why bother with milkshake when you could get some battery acid"

I appreciate she is anti-Brexit and she is entitled to share her views on that but surely this "joke" was a step too far.

lemon, please alert me to a pearl clutcher

‘The pearl clutching and moral panic’, what a stupid and very narrow minded remark to make.

Surely it’s as much the fault of the BBC as it is Blands. They choose to leave her very offensive remark in when they could have edited it out before going on air. The clearly didn’t see anything wrong with it which isn’t too surprising!. Dreadful woman.

I have a nice necklace on today. I may clutch it and worry about locking up Jo Brand.

Gemmag Sat 15-Jun-19 17:40:19

Elvive.......are you trying to be funny?.

Elvive Sat 15-Jun-19 18:02:20

slightly, possibly? The country is crumbling and we worry about this?

maxdecatt Sat 15-Jun-19 18:02:53

Can someone explain to me what "near the knuckle" and "edgey" humour is, and who decides what it is....the person who utters it, or the victim that suffers the result? Reading some posts on here it appears to be anything offensive, cruel and dangerous, but is okay if said by so-called comedians. Swearing on air is normal; these days and nobody turns a hair. It seems to be a requirement for types like Jo Brand. Does inciting violence against others now enjoy protected status?

crystaltipps Sat 15-Jun-19 18:10:45

The police don’t come out to investigate burglaries and car theft ( thanks to Tory cuts) so why they would waste time on unfunny jokes is beyond me.

Callistemon Sat 15-Jun-19 18:13:49

didn't Joan Rivers make jokes about the Twin Towers days after the event
Yes, she was roundly criticised too.
And have we heard from her since?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 15-Jun-19 18:18:29

Joan Rivers died in September 2014, perhaps that is why you haven't heard her lately??

Oops, I did not mean to make an offensive joke!

Gemmag Sat 15-Jun-19 18:52:12

Elvive......All the more reason why such a remark by Jo Brand was so unwise don't you think.

maxdecatt post was extremely unpleasant and untrue.

jura2 Sat 15-Jun-19 19:43:43

It was a joke- in poor taste. She has agreed it was, has apologised...

Farage was not joking when he said he would pick up a gun and take to the streets - and has never apologised- did he?

Oh hang on......somebody has just looked at me funny.....better call 999

mgtrob22 Sat 15-Jun-19 19:51:47

If any one of us had made that comment we would be up in court. It was horrendous, very wrong & in no way funny!. Has she never seen pictures of people who have had acid thrown over them and the dire consequences? It is only recently that a Mr. Van Donegen killed himself after suffering catastrophic injuries after this happened to him.

Eloethan Sat 15-Jun-19 20:01:10

If Gransnet is anything to go by, far from racist offences being "made up", racism appears to be the name of the game these days. I'm disgusted by some of these comments.

Nobody would have been up in court for the remark that Jo Brand made - it did not incite violence.

Methinks not; just a Farage supporter...

lemongrove Sat 15-Jun-19 21:49:47

Elvive exactly who are you calling a ‘troll’.....and Labaik who are you calling a Farage supporter?
Both are stupid comments, as being disgusted by Jo Brands
Unfunny witterings about throwing battery acid ( and most people on this thread seem to agree that it was a horrible thing to say) does not make anyone on here either a ‘troll’ or a Farage supporter either, or can you not see that?
I blame both Brand and the BBC, one for saying it and the
Other for not editing it out. There is so much hate going on at the moment and also the feeling that if you dislike somebody enough it doesn’t matter how violent your language and ideas are, they are justified.Well, they’re not.
