There are many Labour Party members on GN and I would be interested in their thoughts on last night's programme. Having grown up in a Labour supporting household I know the vast majority of Labour Party members are not racist or anti-semitic, however I do feel this programme raises questions about the upper echelon of the party.

If it had been one or two people making the allegations I could accept the denials being issued by the Labour Party that these are just "disaffected former employees". However, there were several people interviewed, some in very senior positions.

trisher Mo spoke to both sides , see the difference

Interesting that most of the anonymous "witnesses" in the Panorama programme appear to be members or supporters of the JLM, the Jewish Labour Movement - an organisation notoriously hostile to Corbyn and the Labour leadership. A provisional list of JLM people who "gave witness" anonymously:

Stephane Savary (JLM joint National Vice-Chair)
Joe Goldberg (JLM joint National Vice-Chair)
Izzy Lenga (JLM International Officer)
Alex Richardson (JLM Membership Officer)
Adam Langleben (ex JLM Campaigns Officer)
Ella Rose (JLM Equalities Officer, former National Director)
Rebecca Filer (JLM Political Education Officer)
Joshua Garfield (JLM Local Government Officer)

It is worrying that most of the people interviewed as direct witnesses to antisemitic incidents by the programme makers appear to be members of a single political lobby group. This was not mentioned at any point in the show, either during the programme itself or in the credits at the end. JLM do not speak for the whole Jewish community, although they frequently act as if they do.

Ella Rose and Alex Richardson also featured in The Lobby, the documentary which exposed a member of the Israeli Embassy paying to influence Labour members/MPs and resulted in his departure.

An alternative view from Jewish Voice for Labour:

An interesting article from Jonathon Cook, a journalist who used to work at the Guardian and is now freelance:

I am in the process of making a complaint to the BBC about this documentary. I think firstly the BBC should not be using a journalist who involved them in a libel payment. secondly that the documentary failed to show any balance and did not properly explain the connections and vested interests involved.

The Jewish Labour Movement is one of the longest affiliated
groups to the Labour Party, they have been loyal to the party, can they be condemned for fighting the anti semetism which is supported by some labour members

Anniebach Fri 12-Jul-19 22:04:00

The BBC invited spokespersons from Labour, the invite was turned down.

No surprise the far left is attacking those who suffer anti semetism, this is how it has grown like a cancer in a party which has always been their political home.

There are some people who are determined to close down any criticism of Israel in relation to its treatment of the Palestinian people. What better way than to describe anyone who is critical of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians - and those that seek to deny or justify Israel's inhumane behaviour - as "anti-semitic".

Corbyn was a backbencher and as such his views on Palestine were of no particular interest to Israel. But as soon as it became clear he might become the Labour leader, and potentially a prime minster, the deluge of criticism, smears and innuendo began, against him and the Labour Party in general. To this end, anybody who refuses to go along with the narrative that the party is systemically anti-semitic will also be described as anti-semitic - even Jewish people.

Former Labour Party investigator caught lying in BBC Panorama interview

Thanks Grany one other thing of interest was the MP Louise Ellman who criticised her local meetings for constantly raising issues to do with Israel, she completely failed to mention her involvement with the Labour Friends of Israel group, which might have explained some of the constituency concerns.
It was a terrible documentary which used now discredited methods such as not showing the interviewer, cutting the interviewee's statements and using voice over to give perceptions and focus which might not have been there, and almost certainly adding emphasis where the documentary maker wanted to.
One thing that amuses me there has been much criticism that Corbyn isn't getting involved in stamping down on anti-semitism, but throughout this programme his office was accused of 'interfering' with investigations. Could one person's "interference" be another's 'supervision"?

Anniebach Sat 13-Jul-19 11:24:54

Mr Westerman did not say he was asked if he was from Israel

Grany Sat 13-Jul-19 11:50:02

Agree with you trisher Labour is on the ball dealing with everything.
How to show you have no credibility at all: a demonstration by the BBC:

1) Interviews a few scouts.

2) when scouts in the background start chanting “oh Jeremy Corbyn”, abruptly end the interview.

I suspect some people won’t even look at this because it’s in the Morning Star, however, it’s a very interesting piece by David Rosenberg

Yes Mr Westerman did Annie

lemongrove Sat 13-Jul-19 13:25:27

Eloethan....and there are people determined to close down any criticism of either Corbyn and his Office and LP members regarding antisemitism.

Anniebach Sat 13-Jul-19 14:35:16

This thread helps so much to understand how anti semetism is dismissed , no matter what is said , no matter what proof is put forward the far left Corbynites will dismiss
it as lies drummed up by the right.

A poster mocks and criticises a M.P. Who is a Jew and has suffered so much , for the number of emails she sent to show the abuse and threats she was receiving.

Continuing to discuss anti semetism in the Labour Party will only mean more denials and more attacks on the Jews.

trisher Sat 13-Jul-19 20:33:30

And how some people will accept without any examination or questioning any allegations made because they dislike the persons being accused. Unfortunately in doing so they fail completely to tackle any real anti-semitism and instead cultivate suspicion and distrust simply to make a political point.

Anniebach Sat 13-Jul-19 20:50:28

Those youngsters were not wearing Scouts uniform,

trisher Sat 13-Jul-19 21:00:36

They were wearing t-shirts and neckerchiefs- usual for acivities and camps. Formal uniform is only for ceremonial events.

The mumsnet thread on the Panarama programme and anti semitism in the LP makes interesting reading. So much less defensive, in denial and supportive of the LP than those in gransnet.

McClusky made a speech today attacking Tom Watson using
the world f*****g, ghastly man

trisher Sat 13-Jul-19 22:16:33

But so much less analytical and critical as well Iam64 . It worries me when people swallow unreservedly any programme with a political agenda.

Grandad1943 Sat 13-Jul-19 23:24:40

Why don't some posters get their statements full and correct? What Len McCluskey stated at the Durham Miners Gala was that Tom Watson was a f**king disgrace after he had demanded that Jenny Formby furnish him personally with information in regard to her handling of anti-semitism complaints.

However, Watson is well aware that Jenney Formby has been suffering a breast cancer diagnosis for some time and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Therefore I will echo what Len McCluskey stated in saying that Tom Watson is without a doubt a F**king Disgrace and should be not only be removed as Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary Party but also as a Labour MP.

The same forum member has also stated that a women Labour MP had forwarded over two hundred anti-semitism complaints to Central Office that had been directed against her personaly.

That MP was Margeret Hodge (her of the covert recording fame), and the complaints are posts on social media etc of a general antisemitic nature which Hodge has collected and sent to Formby's office without even checking if they originated from Labour Party members or even affiliate members. Very few of those media posts are directly against her personally

Such is the depths that these old Blairites and others will sink to, as they have never accepted the overwhelming democratic election of Jeremy Corbyn as leader.

I now live in the genuine hope that these MPs are subject to one of the forthcoming constituency party trigger ballots and that those ballots remove them as Labour MPs

For that is what those people deserve for they are true self-serving B*stards every one of them.
