I can't see what is wrong with what boris is doing we have had three years of parliament trying to come to a decision and as long as the MPs that voted to remain are allowed to vote we shall never come to a decision, we cannot be left without a no deal in that way where is our bargaining hand Boris is wanting to hold this over Europe in order to get a deal and hopefully he won't need to come out without a deal but without it we will never get Europe to agree to anything. God forbid we ever get the disgusting corbyn in power!!

Why bother with analogies at all?How about this ( the truth of the matter) .....we had a referendum, more voted to leave the EU than those who voted to stay in it, and after three years of confusion and frustration it looks as if we really will be leaving soon, just as Parliament promised we would.

How ' convenient ' it is now the government has parogued Parliament for 5 weeks, which incudes the usual 3 week Autumn Party Conference recess of Parliament, some posters and MP's think they were going to vote to not have the Party Conferences. What tosh.

This would be the same parties who have managed to get together outside of Parliament sitting to talk of ' taking over ', installing an ' unected Prime Minister,', whilst on summer recess outside of Parliament would it? They didn't need to be in Parliament to do that horse trading.

The same parties who do not want a ' NO Deal ' Brexit but ALL of them voted against the Withdrawal Agreement.

This would be the same parties who do not agree what the solution to a' NO Deal ' should be.

This would be the same parties who cannot agree to Revoke Article 50 or not, cannot agree to abide by the result of another refendum they keep calling for if it does not return a Remain vote.

If there was a remote thought until now they were concerned about the 3 week recess for the Autumn Party Conference season they could have voted on it before Parliament broke up for the Summer Recess but they didn't, did they!

It's a form of virtue signalling that fools only a few.

Parliament will close as normal for the Conference season, they know it, they did nothing about it when they had the opportunity to stop it and all the costs related to it but it makes them look good. Or does it? The public now will be reminded that Parliament was no sooner back before it buggered off again for Conferences.

Had Parliament actually cancelled the Autumn Conference Recess perhaps Parliament might have been parogued for less time to get a Queen's Speech through, as per normal procedure. Had Johnson then parogued Parliament for 5 weeks he would have deserved to be challenged.

I am not saying the timing sucks or is also ' convenient' for Boris Johnson but there is another fact with regard to timing, he has had no opportunity to do the usual prorogation of Parliament to get his new government Queen's Speech through until now as he only became PM in June prior to Parliament closing for it's Summer Recess.

Get use to it ......17.4 people voted to leave,it didn’t say anything about a deal.....the Democratic vote was to leave & all the Remainers are trying everything & anything they can to stop it happening.At long last we have a PM who will try his hardest to get us out of the EU!!

I have to tell you Selsey99 that we live in a parliamentary democracy. Of course MPs who voted Remain are allowed to vote. What you seem to be advocating is a dictatorship by an extreemist minority.

Oh the hypocrisy - Boris Johnson and his government are finally carrying out the wishes of the majority vote of the teferendum. He should be applauded. Yes I voted to leave, Yes I knew what I was voting for. Yes I will vote for Boris if an election is called. Remainers have had less than two days of it not going their way, imagine how incandesant with frustration and rage Leave voters have felt since March. I am not a racist, fascist or anything elsist. So please do not presume whom or what I am or insult me in trying to devalue my opinion or vote.

It’s been three years since we voted to leave so about time we left ,roll on 31st October!!!

There is a lot of talk about the "decision" to leave that assumes it was inevitable once the referendum had been voted on. It wasn't.

There are two ways in which democracy can be managed.

One is direct democracy - the electorate vote on each topic (given all the appropriate, accurate and unbiased facts, of course) and the results are made into law. This is the kind of democracy that was used in Athens - except that women, foreigners and slaves couldn't vote, meaning that probably no more than 30 percent of the total adult population could, and you had to vote in public after attending the long speeches in person. The adult male citizens entitled to vote in the assembly would have been some 30,000, but not all of these would always be present. When they were, for an important debate, it must have been more like a rabble

The other is representational democracy, where someone is chosen from each group to represent them at meetings, those representatives then discuss potential laws and vote to accept or reject them. This was (almost) the kind of democracy practised in Iceland since the tenth centuty. Once a year the 48 chieftains of the clans (who were not elected, they were there because they were powerful) sat on a central platform. Each chieftain had two advisors who sat in front and behind him. Each chieftain also had the right to choose 12 of his people to bring with him, who could advise him but not discuss directly or vote. These were not on the platform, but camped nearby ready to talk with their chief about things. The total number would be about 1,752, with 146 on the platform and voting.

It would be very cumbersome for a large population like the UK to have direct democracy, so we have representative democracy. Each one of us does NOT have a right to a personal direct vote on each measure. We vote for a representative who votes according to what he deems the wishes and the benefit of his electorate (and according to his/her own conscience, which the voters took into account when they chose him/her.)

I think many people who voted to stay in the EU have changed their minds & now want to leave.I & everyone I know voted to leave.....in fact the whole of the county I live in voted leave & we are even more determined to leave now.We are not all stupid & knew what we were voting for!!!!Roll on 31st October.Well done Boris!!!!

Curlywhirly Thanks for that post. All those points have been mentioned many times on different threads but the Leavers don't/won't accept it because they believe! Nothing's going to go wrong. Boris is going to make it work and so on.

Those of us who voted for Brexit voted to leave the EU, not the mass extermination of Jews, gypsies and homosexuals or for the 'euthanasia' of the physically and mentally afflicted.

It is often stated that Hitler never broke any laws - he just changed them to suit himself. If you have any concern at all for democracy, massive warning bells should be ringing.
