Am I the only one who is sick and tired of Brexit. I am not into politics or wanting a debate. I just want things to get back to normal

Dinahmo Sun 20-Oct-19 21:22:43

Maizie D - I do know people who reuse their tea bags - they like their tea to be weak. They do have another purpose - they're good for covering the drainage holes in plant pots. I drink loose tea, made in a pot and the dregs go into the compost or around the roses.

MaizieD Sun 20-Oct-19 21:23:43

Ahem, Dinahmo your post at 21.10

It was Ug who was claiming that the EU accounts haven't been audited for 20 years... not mcem

Dinahmo Sun 20-Oct-19 21:25:16

MawB - your husband sounds like my brother in law talking to his wife - except he had Parkinsons sadly. He didn't speak to her in that way before his illness but whos know what he was thinking.

MaizieD Sun 20-Oct-19 21:25:23

Yeah, but re-using teabags is not against EU law.. Ug was trying to tell us that the EU has banned the recycling of teabags... which is bonkers...

Gonegirl Sun 20-Oct-19 21:31:55

* GabriellaG54* It's the wattage.

Dinahmo Sun 20-Oct-19 21:33:39

MaizieD - my apologies - I was working backwards and read Ug's post after I typed my response to you. More haste, less speed eh! (on my part)

MaizieD Sun 20-Oct-19 21:42:36

I don't think that clever clogs GG54 read my link to the EU explanation of the reduction in wattage of vacuum cleaners, Gonegirl

Ok but apart from the crashed £, price rises, the normalisation of lying politicians, the worsening trade gap, the increase in hate crime, the splintering of families, the loss of high income jobs, the threat to peace in Ireland, the shortage of farm workers, the increased alienation of Scotland, the weakening of our science base, the threats to the financial sector and the movement of companies to EU countries, the loss of doctors and nurses who are leaving in droves, soaring debt, £69bn bill, loss of influence in the world and international derision, loss of health cover in 27 countries, weakened security, loss of protective legislation, massive distraction from important issues like climate change- Brexit has been great so far hasn’t it?

MaizieD Mon 21-Oct-19 08:49:30

Figments of your imagination, crystaltipps.

growstuff Mon 21-Oct-19 09:17:38

aprilrose I sympathise with your husband for losing his job. Unfortunately, it happens to many people and usually has nothing at all to do with the EU. On the other hand, thousands of people are likely to lose their jobs after Brexit. Some already have, including a friend who worked for the EMA. Some of them even learn a foreign language and move abroad. You've told that story about your husband not getting a job because it was given to a foreigner before. You have absolutely no proof. There are all sorts of reasons people don't get the jobs they apply for.

growstuff Mon 21-Oct-19 09:19:54

Grab yourself a sparkler and a bottle of Aldi Prosecco crystaltipps! You'll have a ball! hmm

We have a saying in our house and that opinions are like bottoms holes and everyone has got one . People are trying to use Brexit for every excuse going , good or bad . Everybody is entitled there own choice of opinion and nobody can force them to change it . The people had there vote they choose to leave and we have to respect that and just get on with it . In life we can't have everything we want .

jenni123 Mon 21-Oct-19 10:09:12

I am sick to death of it, whichever way you voted, lets just get it over and done with. My flat is a no Brexit zone, I will not discuss it, or listen to anything about it. I have a friend who voted the opposite way to me and I will not talk about it with her anymore.

paperbackbutterfly Mon 21-Oct-19 10:13:16

Cameron has ruined my trust in the democratic process. Why were we allowed to vote if the majority decision was not going to mean anything? I will never vote for anything again as I now accept that it's all a sham.

Nonnie Mon 21-Oct-19 10:33:37

aprilrose Sun 20-Oct-19 17:35:14 why so nasty? Are you another leaver who can't give me three reasons they think they would be better off outside the EU? Reasoned debate always works better than rudeness.

Nonnie Mon 21-Oct-19 10:37:35

Urmstongran Sun 20-Oct-19 17:44:24 I'm not getting into a discussion about this until you answer my question - please tell me 3 ways you and your family will be better off if we leave the EU? Thanks

I don't think the EU is perfect but, if you weigh up the options like a balance sheet, it is quite clear we are better off in than out.

newnanny Mon 21-Oct-19 10:39:24

There is a Sky news channel that is now dedicated to news without mentioning the B work.

annab275 Mon 21-Oct-19 10:42:20

my daughter and I were discussing this yesterday. We are both remainers but my OH and son are leavers. We now see each other's points of view and can recognise reasons to vote on either side. There is no right or wrong, black or white. How are we supposed to know how things will turn out? What is the real concern is the divisiveness and venom of people. They need to get over themselves. We will deal with whatever situation we are in, because we have to.

Tinydancer Mon 21-Oct-19 10:43:14

Remain or Leave once Brexit is over and done with THEN the real negotiations will have to start and will take years either way. It is a far from simple matter and I wish people who say they just want it over and done with would realise this. It's like anything worth doing it's worth doing properly or it will be even worse in the long run. People have genuine worries about crashing out. I am personally terrified, if I am unable to get my meds I will be dead within a day or two. Crashing out will only benefit a handful of hedge fund managers who have already made a killing and the likes of Rees Mogg, and will have a terrible effect on the other 99.9% of us. Just so it will be over and done with quickly? Which it wont anyway. Why should MP's sign up to anything they haven't had time to look at thoroughly, a rushed job on a Saturday morning is not what was needed. Yes business is losing money over the delay but that is nothing compared to the billions that will be lost if we have a rubbish rushed deal or a crash out.

MaizieD so much has happened on this thread since I last looked. As I was reading through I had so many answers and then read that you had already done the work for me. Thank you.

crystaltipps Mon 21-Oct-19 03:17:02 you missed some things out grin Great post.

Rosina Mon 21-Oct-19 10:53:37

Yes - utterly, utterly sick of it. I thought I was fairly adult and had a decent grasp of politics, and the world around me, and could listen, reason and debate current affairs, but I have now been reduced to sticking my fingers in my ears and going 'LALALALALALA' at the top of my voice if anyone starts talking about the b****y B word. I am ashamed of our politicians, disgusted with their posturing and party politics, and would like to hit John Bercow very hard round the back of the neck with something squashy and horrible. There. Who started me on this...?

Authoress Mon 21-Oct-19 10:57:32

Well, it's a fascinating immersion in UK and EU politics, that's for sure! But if we leave, there's going to be a lot more of it around, for at least another 18 months on the current deal, as the actual trade negotiations take place...

MaizieD Mon 21-Oct-19 10:58:36

Signed the petition (for all the good it will do sad )

nipsmum Mon 21-Oct-19 11:06:54

If I remember it properly the vote when we went into Europe in the 70 s needed a clear 25% majority or it would not happen. It worked then why not now or something along similar line in what ever direction the politicians choose. Just get it done and give us all a degree of peace. Life will go on whatever the outcome. Our generation has lived through 2 world wars and survived we will survive with or without being affiliated to our European neighbours.
