Am I the only one who is sick and tired of Brexit. I am not into politics or wanting a debate. I just want things to get back to normal

Nonnie Mon 21-Oct-19 15:16:18

Oh April please don't do the leaver thing of creating a 'reason' not to respond. It happens all the time and does your cause no good at all.

aprilrose Mon 21-Oct-19 15:21:40

I have responded long and hard on several threads before this. I am simply not willing to do it again. Its unnecessary. It never apparently satisfies the questionners because they constantly come back. I see no reason in going over old ground.

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 15:34:30

aprilrose; please reconsider. I am more than happy to hear your reasoning for voting leave; I never tire of reading it and some people may have missed it.

aprilrose Mon 21-Oct-19 15:47:07

I never tire of reading it

So you have read my reasons before. Then go back, find the post and read it again if it gives you so much pleasure. Lets save some bandwidth on here.

Good for you Aprilrose for not standing for the bullying

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 16:00:49

Oh no, not the 'b' word argument....

suziewoozie Mon 21-Oct-19 16:01:13

Bullying? Or in GN speak - disagreeing

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 16:04:13

it's weird isn't it....when somebody asks another why they voted to leave, they reply that they have already said it and won't repeat.

I came up with 3 or 4 bullet points as to why I had misgivings about leaving but nobody responded.

GabriellaG54 Mon 21-Oct-19 16:30:55

It's all so predictable and boring.
'*What is?* ' you might say.
This argy-bargy, sour, nasty and frankly, low behaviour from some GN posters, mainly from one side.
It's rather sickening to think that 'old ladies', as one poster referred to us on GN, would talk, write or think in such a manner.
It really beggars belief.
I can't envisage any friends of mine engaging in such crass behaviour.
It's unseemly, to say the least.

Nonnie Mon 21-Oct-19 17:05:56

aprilrose Mon 21-Oct-19 15:21:40 but some of us haven't seen your other posts. As you clearly have strong views it would be a courtesy to those of us still listening and waiting to be convinced to see them. Thank you.

Incidentally I never tire of telling people my views on such an important subject. Seems a bit pointless coming onto a thread if you are not prepared to share your views.

grandtanteJE65 Mon 21-Oct-19 17:09:32

I am sorry for aprilrose and others who are abused for their point of view, but may I ask, why do you put up with it?

If anyone, however dear to me, dared to tell me that I was thick I would tell them where to get off!

On principle I never tell people how I vote, why should I`? It's supposed to be a secret ballot and not telling others how you vote saves a lot of trouble.

It is not unreasonable to ask people to disagree in a polite and mature fashion. Until we do, I don't think there is any likelihood of things getting better.

Urmstongran Mon 21-Oct-19 17:09:41

Incidentally I never tire of telling people my views on such an important subject

I bet you don’t Nonnie !

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 17:20:51

I still wonder how your friends/neighbours in Malaga feel about Brexit Urmstongran [apologies if I missed your reply about it...]. I believe there was a protest march there the other week.

petra Mon 21-Oct-19 17:23:50

grandtant
That's the reason most leave voters rarely post on Brexit threads.
Except for Urmstongran, bless her ?

Urmstongran Mon 21-Oct-19 17:37:14

Well Labaik I bet you’d be surprised (and probably determine not to believe me) but quite a few of the Spanish people we know in Malaga are envious we had a referendum.

When one lady who owns her own small business asked how I had voted, I was a little unsure whether to tell her. Then I thought ‘oh what the heck!’ She actually squealed and clapped and said she didn’t blame us for wanting out of the EU.

As regards ex pats - yes, they want to Remain. And I can understand that as they are all (well retirees) scared they won’t get reciprocal health care if we leave on No Deal. I can well imagine these were the people who were on the march in Malaga!

Finally, there are people like us out there - retirees and second home owners for very many years who don’t have a mortgage or rent to pay, who have a foot in both camps. They (like us) live mainly in the U.K. and continue to pay tax to the U.K. government. We were all happy to vote Leave. We all agree that we LOVE Europe but hate the EU.

I hope this answers your question - surprising isn’t it?

suziewoozie Mon 21-Oct-19 17:37:42

grandtante were you referring to abuse in RL or abuse on GN? Abuse is a word , like bullying and intimidation, that shouldn’t be used lightly. And sadly it is used lightly on GN.

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 18:35:43

But don't you feel for some people that have retired there, some, possibly for health reasons and are worried sick about what will happen to health care etc in the future?

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 18:39:20

And yes, I do believe you [why shouldn't I?] and I'm not surprised because I've seen plenty of interviews with ex pats living abroad. But it still doesn't make me understand why.

Urmstongran Mon 21-Oct-19 18:42:05

I do feel for then Labaik see para 3 of my comment, line 2. I can appreciate they are scared if it were to be a No Deal.

That said in the event of No Deal it was up to each individual EU country to decide how to proceed. I don’t see No Deal happening though.

However, I am disgusted with our Parliament. They don't want no deal,
they don't want to vote on a deal
and they don't want a general election.

They can't hide forever - the public are watching and waiting.

Urmstongran Mon 21-Oct-19 18:43:31

Thank you for believing me Labaik even though you don’t understand their reasons.

It feels good!
?

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 18:45:09

But you can have the best of both worlds having properties in both countries and they can't. And Brexit will probably make it difficult for them to sell up and move back here if they need to. I find that very sad.

maddyone Mon 21-Oct-19 18:45:16

Vena, with regard to your original post, no, you are not the only one who is sick of the whole business. I am too. I wish the politicians would just vote for BJ’s bill and then let us get out.

maddyone Mon 21-Oct-19 18:45:59

Agree with you Urmstongran.

Labaik Mon 21-Oct-19 18:46:18

But that won't be the end of it; just the beginning....
