The far left have finally succeeded in getting rid of Tom Watson .

Ginny42 Thu 07-Nov-19 07:13:01

I don't know all the details of the Beech case - but there is always the danger of NOT believing reports of abuse and in this case Beech was lying. Is Watson being vilified for believing?

MawB Thu 07-Nov-19 07:22:49

Perhaps for being gullible, for publicly championing a cause without doing the necessary legwork, for speaking (very) publicly without knowing the facts, for serious errors of judgement and -when it all came to light - for not having the decency to apologise sincerely and publicly.
Not leadership qualities- or even deputy leadership.

Keith Vaz is currently suspended for 6 months so why is he not automatically banned from standing.

Especially as it was reported that he was in hospital?

kittylester Thu 07-Nov-19 07:26:30

mamacaz, why is that unbelievable if he thinks it is best for the country?

MamaCaz Thu 07-Nov-19 07:34:44

kitty, but that is exactly what I find unbelievable - that anyone left of centre, let alone a life-long socialist, could believe that voting for Boris could possibly be best for the country!

MamaCaz Thu 07-Nov-19 07:40:06

Imo, the only certainty about voting for Boris is that it will be good for ... Boris!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 07-Nov-19 07:41:04

kittylester and Mamacaz perhaps he has insider knowledge and he thinks that the Labour Party would be worse in government than the Conservatives?

MamaCaz Thu 07-Nov-19 07:44:12

But the Tories are not the only other party!

MamaCaz Thu 07-Nov-19 07:47:09

It worries me a lot that at a time when the country is so split, and a bit of centre ground is more needed than ever, he, like the media, seems to be deliberately ignoring that terrain.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 07-Nov-19 07:51:40

Watson is actually suggesting that labour supporters should vote for Boris. Unbelievable!

Where did you see here this MamaCaz? It seems at odds to the fact that he has said he will still campaign for Labour. Fake news perhaps or just what you want to be true?

Tony Blair's middle-of-the-road, suburban, car washing at the weekend, self-employed electrician, voter no longer exists. 1997 is long gone. The "median-voter theory" that allowed parties to rule, is no longer with us. We all seem to be polarizing so what now?

mcem Thu 07-Nov-19 08:00:17

I think you'll find that it is Ian Austin, not Tom Watson, who is n
standing down and is advising voters to support Johnson.

MamaCaz Thu 07-Nov-19 08:01:22

Just listened to news headlines, and I think I must have mixed him up with Austin!

MamaCaz Thu 07-Nov-19 08:03:04

Crossed posts, mcem.

I am relieved! (But embarrassed!)

mcem Thu 07-Nov-19 08:06:13

That's (at least) twice in 2 days that a post has appeared on GN which is completely wrong and has had to be corrected as soon as the mistake was pointed out.
Perhaps we need to double-check before knee-jerk posting.
Enthusiasm for spreading the word is admirable but perhaps we're becoming a tad impatient?

Grandad1943 Thu 07-Nov-19 08:26:04

It was Ian Austin a former aid to Gordon Brown that has stated "Labour supporters should lend the Conservatives their votes"

Austin has continuously criticised Jeremy Corbyn since he was elected leader of the Labour Party but on this occasion has descended to new depths.

It would seem that Tom Watson has said nothing in regard to labour voters in this election, so I feel some people should check out their facts before posting.

I think there will many more "fake" items, like Kay Burley "empty chairing" James Cleverly on Sky News, whilst he was being interviewed by Julia Hartley Brewer on the radio at exactly the same time.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Nov-19 08:41:02

Are you sure gg13 only Burley seemed adamant that he was only a few feet away from her but refusing to be interviewed?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 07-Nov-19 08:48:24

WWMK2 He has posted this.

MawB Thu 07-Nov-19 08:56:57

The tweet is illegible I am afraid GG13 - can you link to it instead?

lemongrove Thu 07-Nov-19 09:00:12

So much fake news spread on here ( and other forums no doubt) because few people take the time to check the facts.
This is one reason not to believe a thing ( presented as a ‘fact’)
On GN political threads on first reading.

lemongrove Thu 07-Nov-19 09:00:57

I managed to read it Maw ....just enlarge it.

kittylester Thu 07-Nov-19 09:01:13

It 'biggens' if I tap on it maw, does it for you?
