Much to early to write off Labour at the next election, so much depends on the chosen leader, a charismatic leader and sensible policies could easily turn prospects round. Ironically after Brexit is done, good or bad, a change of direction could happen, that’s what happened to Churchill after WW2.

News reports from yesterday's meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party suggest what you - and every reasonable person must hope for - is unlikely to happen.

Unless Boris delivers great things for the Labour heartlands who have loaned him their votes and the rUK then he’s in trouble and he certainly won’t win the next election. He’s not someone who genuinely cares about the most vulnerable in society (as witnessed by the recent volte-face re workers rights) so will simply steam roller through some form of Brexit so he can shout about getting it done and then when the merde starts to hit the fan he’ll make some grand exit and disappear to the US.

Don’t believe everything you read in the papers or through other media sources (which are of course available). That is how the country ended up with the leader it deserved...for 5 long years. ?

The battle has a long way to go and I for one will not be supporting any candidate endorsed by. McCluskey.

As I confidently predicted on another thread in a galaxy far away that he would never become PM I think I'd better not hazard a guess.

Labour will never get in unless there is a huge change from the grass roots to the very top and that doesn't look likely.

Boris was well advised, he spent time with the people of this country in the Labour heartlands and it paid off.

The best result by far and long may it continue.

Why would he give up this power trip?

To have a PM who can't take on board the depth of poverty that exists in his own country is like having M Thatcher or D Cameron back.

He will go when his ego tells him to.

Well, as he's the only PM candidate who seems to know the real meaning of 'democratic', I think he'll be there quite a while.

No, Boris not good on detail but I think he will pick good people to do that while he gets on with leading. Remember old met leader who said about bj I always came away from meeting him feeling better. Bj will enthuse his team.

Better to be honest, trustworthy, and genuinely looking out for the most vulnerable in society whilst seeking to unite the UK after the divisions caused by the worst political behaviour in recent years or to be a tub thumping liar with no concern for anything that doesn’t involve making the rich richer and getting Brexit done/over the line/insert your choice of meaningless soundbite here?

Was that the same Winston Churchill who held very dubious views on a number of issues and who had to resign after losing the first election after the war? Surely you’re not comparing Brexit to WW2??

I expect Boris will be around for a while yet. You don't just slink off from a victory like that. The very things that annoyed me about him as Mayor of my city are probably what will save our country from him - he doesn't like to do his own work, he will delegate like anything, and we'll probably get good people actually doing the work. He's already cheered me up by putting Michael Gove in a prominent role.

As far as Winston Churchill goes the common conception that he was a much loved leader is entirely false. The working class hated him. When he visited the docks in Hull he was booed. The dockers who dipped the cranes at his funeral only did so because they were paid overtime. How the media distorts working class history!
I don't doubt Boris's ability to charm. I think he'll just find the whole thing too much like hard work.
