I just want to know when do we stop paying into EU then?
Has anyone else done anything as daft as this?
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢

Hurrah! We're getting OUT at last!
But it seems strange to me that there is so little talk/news on the media about this. Before the General Election everything was about Brexit. To the point that even I got sick to death of it! But it's all gone quiet since then. Are there to be no celebrations from all those who voted to leave? (Sad that Big Ben won't even mark this historic event.)
(I was talking to a young woman the other day, and she didn't even know that we were leaving the EU on Friday!)
I can't really celebate in style, as most of my family wanted to remain -otherwise I would have had a party! So it will be a bit of a damp squib for me!
I shall still open a bottle of champers and toast this great country of ours - our democracy, our integrity - and now, at last, our freedom from a corrupt and self-serving feudalistic state.
I just want to know when do we stop paying into EU then?
I listened to Nigel Farage’s speech yesterday and am still struggling to understand why some people were so horrified at the flag waving.
He stated that he loves Europe but hates the EU, which is exactly how every ‘leave’ voter feels I am sure.
We will celebrate tomorrow and raise a glass to Nigel Farage as I am certain this would never have happened, had he not spent well over twenty years of his life campaigning for us to leave.
Bless him; and all he's got to show for it is a ruddy great pension.
growstuff I'd be all for London declaring independence
I understand that England will always have a majority of MPs but that doesn't constitute bullying does it? Or any majority decision by any party or faction would also be bullying. It's the words bully and bullying that I find objectionable.
What an UGLY thread title
No celebrating here.
I get your point janipat.
Incidentally, if London were to gain independence, do you think I could be an associate Londoner?
I voted remain, but for many reasons, not least being repeated attempts to thwart the democratic vote before it could even be enacted apon, have come to see the EU as strong arming us out of the door.
I think those flags could have been a bit bigger, Nigel! Lol!
I have huge celebrations planned - will put a link up to the fireworks display were having - massive!
Let us all enjoy the night any which way we can.
Am I the only one confused by ananimous's post?
JenniferEccles: I listened to Nigel Farage’s speech yesterday and am still struggling to understand why some people were so horrified at the flag waving.
I listened to the speech and it was quite good, as you say he emphasised loving Europe but not the EU. That has all been ignored in favour of showing the flag waving and his speech being cut, which does paint a distorted picture.
There is going to be a big celebration in Parliament Square 9pm to 11pm tomorrow night. If I were younger and still lived in London I would definitely be there!

Well, we've another £33billion to go, I understand. Then, depending on whatever deals are made, we may have to pay the EU to access some of their agencies or institutions.
One part of the UK, Northern Ireland, is bound to the EU customs union for ever to avoid breaching the GFA (the 'backstop'). So, who knows when we'll stop paying in....
Let us all enjoy the night any which way we can.
I'm not sure that annanimous recognises that some 50% of the UK population has nothing to celebrate, or even 'enjoy' about Friday night...
Chestnut well the party goers in London are unlikely to be predominately Londoners since London was heavily remain.
Growstuff when we gain our independence your application for association will be carefully considered
merlotgran no not the only one

Well, it would seem there is not going to be any great celebration in Parliament Square tomorrow night as it all seems to have fallen rather flat.
No entertainment has signed up for the event when music and comedy acts etc were promised when the event was first planned. Also, no alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase at the "celebration" due to problems obtaining licencing for the event.
Link to this "lacklustre party" can be found here:-

I'd like to think that Brexit supporters that are planning celebrations that include fireworks might spare a thought for those cats and dogs that have only just recovered from bonfire night/week/month. But I'm not holding my breath.
Labaik, pet owners in Central London will not have to concern themselves with fireworks as it seems at this point in time that Westminster council will not grant a licence for that at the Parliament Square celebrations.
(I was talking to a young woman the other day, and she didn't even know that we were leaving the EU on Friday!)
Lucky woman.
It may be that those attending the Parliament Square "celebration" may not even be able to consume alcoholic drinks they bring with them to the event. Westminster council have warned Revellers attending that the area is covered by a ban on all alcoholic drinks.
Is the young woman who didn't even know that we were leaving the EU on Friday the same young woman who was interviewed prior to the referendum and didn't know that we were holding a referendum on our membership of the EU or even know what the EU was!
I wonder how or if she voted.
I understand that some people aren't looking forward to it, and I respect their wish to ignore this historical moment.
I guess I'm from pioneering stock and adapt easily to most things in life. I just enjoy the chance of sharing good times with my friends and family - a glass (of UK wine) half full type.
We can always rejoin again in 40 years time, if the EU still exists.
ananimous but not on the preferential terms we have enjoyed.
@janipat
I can't see it even being there tbh
'I guess I'm from pioneering stock and adapt easily to most things in life. I just enjoy the chance of sharing good times with my friends and family - a glass (of UK wine) half full type.'
wow; I'm surely not worthy of being on a forum with people like you....
Just received an email from the Economist telling me what's in this weeks edition. I have a feeling this has been said at other times on here but still interesting.
Most of the changes that Boris Johnson’s government favours could have been accomplished without leaving the EU. Yet now that Brexit is definitely happening, the country should make the most of the chance to recalibrate the economy and reset its priorities. The last couple of times Britain pressed the reset button, in 1945 and 1979, the programmes that it put into place to create the welfare state and replace socialism with Thatcherism had been thought through. This time there is no plan. Britain needs a blueprint.
As for being of pioneering stock or not, people's characters don't tend to change greatly. I imagine those who whinged until they got us out will continue whinging (based on no discernible facts, of course) about their selfish view of life once we are out.
And those who whinged once we had voted "out" will continue whinging ad finitum, no doubt.
