Oh dear Harry and Meghan

THE Duke of Sussex has been duped into speaking about his decision to quit the Royal Family by hoaxers pretending to be Greta Thunberg, it was claimed last night.
The Duke was pranked by Russian jokers who convinced him he was speaking to the teenage climate activist and her father, according to The Sun. He alluded to tensions between his wife and himself, and the rest of the Royal family and also criticised Donald Trump, who he said “has blood on his hands. ”
The two phone calls were reportedly made to the Duke at his rented home on Vancouver Island, Canada, on New Year’s Eve and January 22, by Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, known as Vovan and Lexus
Do you all remember how “Sheik gate” put an end to Sophie Wessex’s career plans? I fear that without the protection of a Royal Press Officer Harry risks being a bit of “an innocent abroad “
For once I agree with The Donald.
They've both got a brass neck.
Surely 8 million would go a long way towards paying for security and keep them in a manner to which they have both become accustomed? I wonder how much it costs.
I too agree with him, it won’t bother them, we will have to pay.
Bet the security officers from the Met fancy working in LA,
Me too merlot I’m so pleased Trump said no. I know he he regards the Queen very highly, and so I was afraid he might agree for fear of offending her. Luckily he took the right path and said no. I think that’s a word neither of them have heard very often, especially in their childhoods. Meghan had a father who doted on her, and look where that got him, and after Diana died, I’d be surprised if anyone said no to Harry.
A very good article in The Times online today. I will see if I can paste several paragraphs below:
"The timing of this move might delicately be described as tactless. As Prince Charles fights Covid-19, as hundreds die and thousands grieve, and millions suffer distress and financial uncertainty; as a quarter of the world’s population are allowed little further than their own front door, the duke and duchess chose this moment to display their wealth and the freedom it can buy, to sever ties more definitively from crown and Commonwealth, to further their own interests.
"Indeed, the timing is so crass that we have to wonder whether it was deliberate. Perhaps, to paraphrase that odious line coined on 9/11, the Sussexes thought this pandemic was “a good time to bury difficult news”? If this was the rationale, it was entirely wrong. Making the move to California, and making it now, only inflames the irritation many feel over the couple’s actions in recent months.
"I am one of those who thought the union of Harry and Meghan an exciting thing for our country. The woman is beautiful, charismatic, blessed with Cleopatra-like poise. She glows as though lit from within by 1,000 watts. Harry’s discovery of Meghan seemed as great a boon to Britain as the uncovering of a fresh field of oil in the North Sea. Then came Megxit part 1: a disappointing rejection of this nation by those who had been offered all its riches on a plate. Still, we could find it in our hearts to understand their need for a life away from the spotlight; we could give them credit for staying within the Commonwealth, and we could be hopeful about their pledge to spend a lot of time in Britain.
"Now Megxit part 2 has blown those charitable assumptions about part 1 out of the water. The couple who professed to hate media intrusion have headed to a place where their every move will be captured by paparazzi. The people who make so much of their bonds with the Commonwealth — and who reportedly toyed with a move to Africa — have moved out of it. The duke and duchess who still style their communications with a crown motif, whose brand is explicitly built on the back of the British royal family, have decided that in this moment of crisis they will leave the old firm to it.
"According to the Times report on the couple’s move, “the royal family is said to be disappointed that Prince Harry and Meghan have not returned to Britain to perform a supportive role.” Disappointed — exquisite understatement! The word carries the weight of 100 courtiers’ raised eyebrows, and the Queen’s own quiet despair. The theme of Her Majesty’s reign has been humility over haughtiness; whenever possible you stand beside your people, not above them. She learnt that from her mother, who insisted that she and King George VI stayed at Buckingham Palace during the Blitz, and who was “glad” when the Luftwaffe bombed the palace because it meant she could “look the East End in the face”.
Thanks for sharing Sparklefizz. Excellent article.
Thank you Sparklefizz. The article has some good points, I intend to read it again in a bit and comment!!
The article sums up what a lot of us are thinking.
They fooled many didn’t they ?
I really cannot believe that anybody still gives a b*** what these two are actually doing. Do you search the media for stories about them? Why? Whatever they have done, whatever you feel about them ,if you like them or not, the best thing you can do is stop talking or reading about them. That way if it's publicity they re after you are frustrating them and if it's privacy they are after you are giving them it. End of.
A very calm and reasoned article.
I wonder if they will read it?
(not holding my breath)
Meghan doesn't like DT and it was made plain a few weeks ago in the broadsheets, so I wonder if Trumpy is refusing out of spite because he is childish in lots of ways, especially after singing his praises about the RF on his last visit here ? H&M didn't bother meeting him then did they ?
Does America provide security for all celebrities ? I think not
so why for them
Words fail me, I just can't believe that at the bottom of his heart Prince Harry really feels that this is the correct way to treat his family and the country of his birth. If he does, then tbh, apart from sadly concluding that they truly are an appalling couple, there is no more to be said!
If he did feel this is not the way to treat his family and this
country he wouldn’t do it surely
If somebody announced to the world that they didn't like me and publicly refused to meet me (in the very unlikely event!!!) I don't think that I would be willing to pay millions of dollars for their private security!!! Nothing childish about that!
trisher I really cannot believe that anybody still gives a b* what these two are actually doing. Do you search the media for stories about them? Why?
Why do you come on this thread then, Trisher, when you hold the above opinion?
trisher Many of us come on this thread to discuss human nature way beyond H&M. Although the thread relates to them we also look at the wider issues.
Whenever somebody finishes a post with 'End of' I have a perverse desire to carry on posting because it's the most bossy, controlling comment ever.
A couple of things worry me about the accuracy this thread.
Did they actually ASK the US to pay for their security?.
I’m sure when asked, Trumps reply was “ no we are not paying”, just that.
There is never a right time to make the break from your family, some posts are saying they foresaw the Covid 19 crisis in advance - obviously they didn’t.
Moving to LA was a surprise, maybe Meghan has more job opportunities there to be self financing.
I do not search the media, I do listen to the news, I am on this
thread because I choose to trisher as you choose to
Davidhs accuracy on this thread is always superceded by hate and bile. It's effectively a way for some to deal with negative emotions by focussing them on two people they don't even know. It's interesting just to read how much time people are prepared to spend on them. I pop in now and then just to say something people will disagree with.
You pop in to disagree trisher ? No, you pop in to tell
posters not to post on this thread and suggest those who post
have negative emotions.
Why not openly defend the couple ? If you have no interest in the topic find a thread which interests you ?
I wonder why some people enjoy winding others up. It’s quite perverse. At this difficult time I should have thought people should be supporting one another, not baiting one another. My opinion only.
Anyway people are interested in the H+M situation, it’s rather like watching a disaster film in slow motion. Many are disappointed with their behaviour. People appeared to be very happy when Meghan first arrived on the scene, hence the footage of cheering crowds everywhere she went. She was given a huge welcome by Britain, including footing much of the bill for her hugely expensive wedding. Whatever we didn’t pay for, Prince Charles did. She now says that life in Britain is toxic, that the family she married into is toxic. But that she requires Britain or the US if they will to provide hugely expensive security for them. She also requires Prince Charles to keep on paying them them for doing ? Existing? What are they doing to justify Prince Charles giving them millions every year? The answer is trying to line their own pockets. The selfishness and sense of entitlement is truly unbelievable. And that is what interests and upsets many people. I realise that republicans are standing on the sidelines, cheering them on, and apparently seething with resentment towards those who are genuinely interested.
