GNHQ edit: Following on from previous thread linked to here: Will he resign?

Alastair Campbell says Cummings would have had access to police advice regarding security and he’s making enquiries about it.

pantyglas. ???

I am 74 and last year drove too and from the Lake District. I live on the South Coast. I has DH with me (bad back)

I think that little woman remark was uncalled for.

Apparently Mrs Cummings celebrated her 45th birthday while they were on a jolly in County Durham, so she is hardly a little old lady, unable to drive on a motorway.

Tooting29 Mon 25-May-20 19:48:21

MaizieD yes agree with Sussexes. In what way was life endangered is there evidence to support that COVID cases and deaths in County Durham and all counties in between have risen as a result of his actions. It would put things into perspective if we knew.

Pantglas2 Mon 25-May-20 20:04:38

Perhaps all your friends are capable drivers like you and me Whitewavemark2 - let’s hope their spelling and attention to detail is as good.

janipat Mon 25-May-20 20:05:21

pantglas2 Wrong with regards to Mary Wakefield.

Greeneyedgirl Mon 25-May-20 20:06:48

How patronising from Johnson "wash your bloody hands". Doesn't matter if we drive all over the country as long as we do it with clean hands.

Sad thing about this debacle is that it is no surprise to many who are used to the wealthy and priveledged doing as they please regardless of everyone else.

Many are more occupied about whether they can feed their kids, never mind drive them to their family's estate for safety. Worrying about paying their rent or mortgage, or if their job is shortly to disappear, or has done so already.

Galaxy Mon 25-May-20 20:07:03

To be fair I wouldn't drive pantglass anywhere and I am only in my forties.

Curlywhirly Mon 25-May-20 20:24:42

Oh, he drove to Barnard Castle to see if his eyesight was ok?!!!! What! I can't believe that someone so supposedly intelligent couldn't think up a better excuse! Does he think we are so thick as to believe that? How insulting. He needs an advisor of his own, preferably one with better PR skills than he has. Testing his eyesight ? That just takes the biscuit. Priceless!

Greeneyedgirl Mon 25-May-20 20:27:42

Funny that the drive to Barnards Castle was on the 12th, same date as his wife's birthday. ?

Pantglas2 Mon 25-May-20 20:33:19

Dear lord this is bottom of the barrel stuff - now he’s a cheapskate because all he did for his wife’s birthday is take her out for a spin.....

Greeneyedgirl Mon 25-May-20 20:37:58

No you've got it wrong. It was to test his ?

NfkDumpling Mon 25-May-20 20:55:36

I’ve been out all day - shielding rebel that I am - and missed all the fun. Watching it just now was like watching a football match when you know the result.

I notice the signatures on Change.org are coming in just as fast, if not faster, perhaps the general public aren’t as stupid as he thinks.

He may at least have got the message that he can’t make the rules, order everyone to follow them and then ignore them himself. His reasons for doing so are really immaterial.

MayBee70 Tue 26-May-20 01:15:12

Police are having to tell people that you shouldn't drive if your eyesight is bad or if you're feeling unwell. Is this Cumming's 'drink disinfectant to kill the virus' moment? This country and it's government is just turning into a sick joke.

vegansrock Tue 26-May-20 05:58:44

Lots of people ignore the rules but the difference is they aren’t running the government, writing the rules and the snappy “stay at home” catchphrases. Dominic Cummings is. You should lead by example and if you are telling others what to do you should always be seen to be following your own rules. By not doing so he has become a hypocrite of the first order. If the only defence is he acted out of instinct, that gives the rest of us the green light to do whatever we like.

vegansrock Tue 26-May-20 06:33:08

Made me smile

wendyann23 Tue 26-May-20 07:22:10

Vegansrock, totally agree with you. I would have more sympathy with him if he had shown the slightest sign of remorse or regret. He seems to think they are guidelines where the rest of us interpreted the lockdown rules as instructions. Still think it is one rule for him and another for the rest of us. Just hypocrisy.

Urmstongran Tue 26-May-20 07:39:02

I couldn't believe the journos were going with their rehearsed questions rather than probing some of his statements. It made them look a bit silly as some of their questions weren’t relevant.

Firecracker123 Tue 26-May-20 07:43:29

It was a trial by media and leftwing bitter morons baying for blood. Its all political trying to take the government down.

NfkDumpling Tue 26-May-20 07:44:35

Did the media have to put in its questions in advance?

Grandad1943 Tue 26-May-20 08:01:37

As a lifelong Labour movement subscriber, I have to say that it was fortunate that the press did carry out the deep questioning of Cummings, for Kier Starmer has been nowhere to be seen throughout this weekend of deep crisis for the government.

The invisible man who evidently lacks the judgment to know when the opportune moment is for an opposition leader to "show up" and really go after the government.

A huge disappointment for all who are Labour subscribers and without doubt Starmer has failed his first real test as a leader.

May not play well when the trade union members political levy subscriptions have to be reaffirmed later this year.

Galaxy Tue 26-May-20 08:16:22

As I said on the other thread, where you posted the same comment, I am a labour member and think he is doing brilliantly.

Marydoll Tue 26-May-20 08:21:51

Galaxy, I too believe, Kier Starmer is being very clever and playing a long game.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 26-May-20 08:25:43

Starmer hadn’t disappointed me. In fact I think he has played the whole thing just right. He hasn’t followed the herd and continuously called for resignations etc. That has been left for the media and other Tories and opposition parties, to act as talking heads. Instead he has given a television interview making clear that his opinion is that Cummings should resign or Johnson should sack him. Nothing more need be said for the time.

You continual threats don’t play well grandad

Lucca Tue 26-May-20 08:25:45

“ left wing bitter morons”.
Excellent debating language there and utterly meaningless.
Another post mentioned “loony lefties and remoaners,” also brilliant. not.
