Exactly GG13!
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢
Voting. I’m so glad we still have the ‘old fashioned’ system…
There has been much talk about the slogan ‘Black Lives Matter‘ with many people saying instead that all lives matter. I think it’s a good topic for debate and to gain understanding.
To me, saying ‘all lives matter‘ is to deny that racism exists. It denies the experience of many black people who are not treated as white people would have been. Think of the man who achieved the highest office in America. Would anyone have raised the ‘birther’ question had Barack Obama been white? Saying all lives matter also closes down debate on the issue, suggesting that the very particular problems black communities experience are no different from that of anyone else therefore we shouldn’t talk or do anything about it.
The term ‘black lives matter‘ is not saying that only black lives matter. It means that black lives matter as much as other lives, whether that is in the undue violence meted out to the black community, the discrimination they face in healthcare , employment and housing and in many, many other ways.
I’ll put a link on the next post, explaining why saying all lives matter is wrong. If you only look at one item, please watch All Plates Matter. It sums it up in two minutes. Be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
Exactly GG13!
I'm not altogether sure about the 'nazi salutes'. Some people have said that it's a football thing, arm in the air, punching the air kind of gesture. We could give them the benefit of the doubt there..
This all kicked off not long after mid day. The trouble in London last week was not until later in the day, after a very large peaceful demonstration. Just for comparison...
These extreme right wingers are thugs just looking for a fight -any fight.
Their whole aim is to disrupt the BLM protests. Protecting statues is just an excuse to be there and cause as much mayhem as possible.
And they had a cause, whether you agree with it or not.
This lot don't even have a reason.
Ahh, GG13 and Jabberwok, but they're 'your' thugs. These are the Brexit voters the government was too scared of to let us have a confirmatory referendum.
And, OMG, were they right to be scared...
MaizieD they are not my thugs , what a ridiculous thing to post!!
Unfortunately there is an under belly of thuggery on both sides of the political spectrum.
It's all about protecting the statues, which is fair enough I suppose if there'd been intentions to pull more down. By doing that, it acted as a heads up to other groups to make it a free for all on the pretext that they were protecting the city.
These people crave violence----worse than animals and certainly not civilised even if they think they are.
Mandela---can be pulled down for all I care. He was a murderer of his own people which is why he was imprisoned. Him and his brutal wife Winnie.
and police and police horses were being attacked.
I think, if you bother to open my links, Smileless that you will see some police horses being attacked...
Coronavirus deaths have gone up in this country.
It's all about protecting the statues, which is fair enough I suppose if there'd been intentions to pull more down.
Indeed, EV, that was their stated intention during the week. I even posted a comment somewhere about it.
But having got to London and found that the statues didn't need to be protected from anyone why didn't they have a drink and a chat with their mates and then go home?
By doing that, it acted as a heads up to other groups to make it a free for all on the pretext that they were protecting the city.
Rubbish. Just rubbish... The police are there to protect the city. Not groups of drunken far right Little Englanders...
How does fighting the police 'protect the city'?
I saw a piece on TV the other day about how the biggest threat to democracy now was the far right activist groups, and these groups are attracting and recruiting very young people. I can see in the crowds quite a few young white men. These men will have grown up in a multi-racial society, and have no doubt been taught that racism is wrong, but they are out there demonstrating and attacking the police. The statues are just an excuse to stage right wing demonstrations.
Has anyone seen any women (apart from policewomen having punches thrown at them) in those clips?
The left-wing started all this by whipping up hatred toward the police for killing that man then one thing led to another and the reason why the police stood back through the mayhem of destruction was in case they were seen as racists themselves because of the cause.
It's bound to set other groups off such as the EDL, it was already known that this would happen via Intelligence so today the police had to be seen doing their job and went after the far-righters instead, leaving the original protesters alone.
I can see exactly what's happening. The police are damned if they do and damned if they don't and they know who the least supported group is so go after them in case they upset the majority.
Britain is an angry country full of angry people and there's little anyone can do to halt this now bigger divide because of the extreme attitudes of left and right.
Which original protesters EllanVannin? BLM called off their protest. There was a small, peaceful protest in another part of London.
Britain is not full of angry people, but there were certainly a few hundred angry white men in London today, who were there for no other purpose to have a fight.
The left-wing did not whip up hatred for the police. People who objected to discrimination against black people protested. Some people then whipped up hatred because they're racist. No ifs, buts or excuses.
I think you'll find that this lot are winning the thuggery battle. I'm disgusted that anybody can make excuses for them.
London should take a leaf out of Liverpool where there were 7,000 in a quiet protest whose slogan was " we shouldn't be tearing statues down, instead we should be building communities ". Well done Liverpool.
You do realise that Black Lives Matter called of their London protest, don't you? Can you honestly see racist thugs suggesting that they build communities?
One thing people could learn form Liverpool is to chase Tommy Robinson away, so he hid in a toilet in Lime Strret station.
BLM has protestors in Hyde Park today growstuff
Peacful ,socially distnced protests here to EV ,but I'm fairly convinced it not JUST left wingers who support BLM or equality or who stand against police brutality .In fact I 'm very saddened that you believe its a political stance instead of a human rights one .
paddyanne you are absolutely right the - BLM represent individuals human rights. They have zero to do with a particular political spectrum.
A lot of people were unhappy with the thought that statues were going to end up in rivers which drove many of them to go and show support for the statues.
Either wrongly or rightly
There's also more than a few military men , 'protecting' the statues.
Of course this has given rise to those ghastly EDL types who will do anything for a fight.
So that's the issue.
I also agree with paddyanne.
It most certainly is not just left wingers who support BLM.
It's decent people from all walks of life
There is now footage of a group of people in Hyde park sat on blankets chatting, and a crowd of thugs walking up and completely trashing their picnic.
Thank god for phone footage, no one would have believed it otherwise!
How can any one even begin to defend these people
The BBC can’t continue like this and claim to be a national broadcasting company
Sorry, but the BBC reporting on today’s ‘protests’ in Central London, and specifically Whitehall, is utterly disgraceful. Not a single mention of racists or thuggery, and no mention of the fact that there is no BLM protest. I’m ashamed of them. #BBC #whitewashing
