Sex party organiser in Number 10

My occasional glance at the Daily Mail is always good for a laugh, but this is beyond a joke:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8107533/Former-sex-party-boss-lands-job-Downing-Street-Government-strategist-researcher.html

His wife, Munira Mirza, is the head of the Number 10 Policy Unit, was a former member of the Revolutionary Communist Party and was one of Johnson's deputies when he was Mayor of London. She's been given the job of heading up the latest commission on racism, even though she has written many times that she doesn't believe institutional racism exists in the UK.

WTF is going on? First we had Cummings' attempt to appoint a supporter of eugenics. Now a swingers' party organiser and husband of a former communist.

Dougie Smith and his sex party background are trending on Twitter. Apparently, he has previously worked for the Conservative Party as David Cameron's speech writer. He was initially hired to find dirt on Labour Party members.

This has all come to light following the highly inappropriate appointment of Smith's wife, Munira Mirza, as co-ordinator for the commission into racism. It would appear that she has questioned the Bosnia and Rwanda genocides and is a climate change denier, in addition to not believing in institutional racism.

This could all be a Brexit dead cat. Smith is a Cummings appointee, who has been hired because he "thinks outside the box".

These are the kind of people you're supporting Urmstongran.

It's the complete acceptance of the corruption, lies and destruction of democracy that gets me. It's not merely 'scarey', it's infuriating..

growstuff Wed 17-Jun-20 08:36:03

jenpax It's not just the DM. The story appeared in March in a number of publications, but didn't go anywhere, which shows how much control there is over the media.

Can you imagine what would have happened if it had been discovered that a member of Corbyn's team had been a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party and was married to the founder of a company organising sex parties?

MaizieD Wed 17-Jun-20 08:38:03

Urmstongran feels no shame, growstuff.

growstuff Wed 17-Jun-20 08:38:43

Bl**dy hell Urmstongran! You really are having a laugh! Johnson's popularity is falling like a proverbial stone. Putting Raab in charge of anything is a gross mistake!

Furret Wed 17-Jun-20 08:58:21

Even died in the wool Tories are backing off his policies.

Luckygirl Wed 17-Jun-20 09:05:14

Not Gove - please, please - I will lose the will to live.

Luckygirl. Hear hear.
The man who made up the “hour of exercise” rule on the spot on the Andrew marr show.

Urmstongran Wed 17-Jun-20 09:13:01

It must irritate the hell out of most of you on here to know there’s a lot like me ‘out there’ away from these echo chambers! And we all have a vote.

Lucca Wed 17-Jun-20 09:53:40

Irritate? No. But I’d be interested to know your views on this latest appointment

Furret Wed 17-Jun-20 10:19:41

Not irritated. I’ve learned to ignore the very few people in come into contact with in RL with such views.

Re OP trending on twitter have been unable to find Dougie Smith have you got a link please?

growstuff Wed 17-Jun-20 11:00:02

Sorry, don't know how to do links to Twitter threads. He's no longer trending but just put his name into the search facility.

Here's a link to an article in yesterday's Mirror:

Here's a link to a wikkipedia page about him

I don't think it's been updated particularly recently but it looks as though the 'Fever Parties' page it 'was' linked to has been removed.

Callistemon Wed 17-Jun-20 11:04:17

This thread is quite confusing as I would have thought that the people getting most hot under the collar about Dougie Smith would be those whom some posters refer to as 'traditional Tory female do-gooders in twin sets and pearls'.

???

janeainsworth Wed 17-Jun-20 11:53:43

I don’t think the question of appropriate political appointments is necessarily a party political one, Calli.
It’s more a question of values.
The same values can be shared across the political spectrum & are a reflection of someone’s personal integrity rather than their political beliefs.

Urmstongran?

Callistemon By no means am I a traditional Tory female do-gooder, but I would imagine that there are some people like that who can see the hypocrisy. To be honest, I don't know what they think, although I personally expect the leaders of my country to uphold certain moral standards. Smith and his wife, Munira Mirza, and Cummings have written many times about how they want to undermine traditional values. I sometimes think the country could do with a bit of a shake up about some issues, but I seriously doubt whether most Conservative voters thought they were voting for the kind of shake up which is being planned by this bunch.

My feeling is that I'm not really bothered how people conduct their sex lives as long as it's consensual.

However, I am extremely concerned about this appointment. My guess is that Cummings and Johnson have allowed information to be published because they know they can get away with almost anything at the moment. The exception was that Sabisky bloke (the one who believed in eugenics) and free school meals. Unless they're challenged, they'll just do what they want.

In this case, it seems that there's a huge security risk. He has access to private information within the cabinet office. It's also not unreasonable to assume that he knows quite a bit of dirt about some very influential people. He was originally hired by David Cameron to dig dirt on political opponents. There is potential for all sorts of bribery and blackmail.

I'm also concerned about the nepotism. His wife has just been handed the job of organising a new commission on racism, despite having written in the past that she doesn't believe that racism in the UK exists. She, like so many Cummings allies, is obsessed by data, which I find worrying. She worked for Johnson for 8 years when he was mayor of London, so he must know about her husband's past.

Over the last few months, many billions of pounds in contracts have been handed to allies of Cummings without going out to tender. Cummings has been responsible for sacking neutral civil servants and installing his own nodding lap dogs and supporters, such as Dougie Smith.

They are accountable to nobody, so they get away with it.

I'm sorry if nobody sees it all as sleazy and sordid, but I do.

Callistemon Wed 17-Jun-20 15:06:58

Yes, I dislike the nepotism and do wonder what is on their hidden agenda.

It was the sex parties themselves that seemed to be causing shock and horror.

Of course, arranging such activities for high profile figures could leave them wide open to blackmail in the future.
It is interesting quite how stupid supposedly educated and intelligent people can be when their libido rules over their common sense.

MaizieD Wed 17-Jun-20 15:10:26

I'm sorry if nobody sees it all as sleazy and sordid, but I do.

It's just another addition to the miasma of corruption that wafts around our government.

Lucca Wed 17-Jun-20 15:10:29

My mother would say “‘Twas ever thus” Callistemon

Callistemon Wed 17-Jun-20 15:44:05

Yes, Twas!

Dinahmo Wed 17-Jun-20 19:09:38

Growstuff What's the betting that Johnson went to some of those parties? Times are very different to the Profumo affair when he resigned because he was sleeping with Christine Keeler who was also sleeping with a Russian spy.

Back then politicians resigned for misdeeds. Unlike today when the only ones to resign or stand down at a GE are the ones who can't take the lies and cronyism anymore.
