Where are the Tory supporters who seem shy in defending the government?

Over the Russia report

Tory corruption

No protection for the NHS

No protection for our food standards

No Parliamentary scrutiny of any trade deal.

I’m sure some must think it’s all excellent?

Jabberwok Tue 21-Jul-20 17:08:26

JE, you are so right, this constant banging on day after day knocking the government, going on and on about DC, the corrupt referendum etc etc! We get the message, and quite honestly we can't as from 5.05pm be bothered to answer this endless drivel any more!

Janpt Tue 21-Jul-20 17:15:22

GrannyGravy13 It wasn't meant to be taken literally. Is it your idea of a joke. Many on here are not as lucky as you with family who live abroad so it might be an idea to be more tactful in future.

Ilovecheese Tue 21-Jul-20 17:16:54

I havn't heard anyone defending the Government yet, just imagining that it would have been worse under Labour, with no evidence.

Urmstongran Tue 21-Jul-20 17:21:45

This Tory voter has spent the afternoon in a bar having a great laugh with ‘my ladies’. Not avoiding anything at all!

As GG13 said upthread, you'll get ‘quiet times’ on GN - not because we’re swerving the topic but because we’re out and about.

I’m home, just about to dish up but just to say I still think Boris means well and is doing a good job. He’s a libertarian.

In my opinion, especially because he’s actually experienced C-19 (unlike the majority of us on here) his intentions are sound.

Lucca Tue 21-Jul-20 17:24:39

Please please UG can we have some concrete examples of Boris being a libertarian?

Is “meaning well” enough as P M?

I also have family living abroad, I have no idea when we will be able to visit them. I miss them dreadfully as no doubt all Gransnetters who are in similar situations do.

There are numerous posts on GN regarding Grandparents seeing their GC, would you like them to stop posting about their times with their GC/Families?

Janpt Tue 21-Jul-20 17:30:34

GrannyGravy13Sorry you hit a very sore point. At least you see some of your grandchildren.

Urmstongran Tue 21-Jul-20 17:32:19

I voted for Boris because he pledged to ‘Get. Brexit. Done.’

In that respect he hasn’t put a foot wrong since taking office so I’m certainly not complaining.

Today (behind a pay wall) in the Telegraph:

‘The episode demonstrates just how much has changed as a result of the December 12 election, with the Prime Minister now firmly in control of negotiations and the vast majority of MPs determined to strengthen, rather than weaken, his hand. The fact that as many as a dozen Tories opted to rebel will doubtless concern party whips, but Tory MPs will also know that supporting a move remotely approaching the September 2019 coup would almost certainly result in their expulsion from the party.

This week, as EU and UK negotiations convene for the latest round of formal talks in London, one thing will be clear in the mind of Brussels officials: this time the British Prime Minister is both in office and in power.’

Still no listing of all the wonderful things that the Tories have done.

Still a lot of whataboutery criticising Corbyn who is not in power

Still a lot of deliberate misunderstanding about what some of us are very, very concerned about. This is beyond politics, beyond whether or not I 'hate the Tories' it is about people not seeing what is happening in front of them, Russian interference in what we were all assured by the 'winners' on here was a fair referendum, the green light to the gradual privatisation of the NHS, corruption, an unelected person of unknown provenance making all the decisions....are you all really happy with that? Is it really anything to get Brexit done and sod democracy?

I despair.

GillT57 Tue 21-Jul-20 17:37:50

Oh, and here is another one to chew over. Sorry if it upsets your dinner, or drinkies with friends, but I think this too is important

JenniferEccles Tue 21-Jul-20 17:39:13

Oh for goodness sake Janpt.
That has got to be one of the silliest comments ever when you accused GrannyGravy13 of being tactless for mentioning she had spent the afternoon playing with her grandchildren.

Honestly I had to read it twice to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood what you had said.

Are you really saying none of us must ever mention playing with our grandchildren because some have family living abroad?!

Perhaps you could confirm that is what you indeed meant just in case I am doing you an injustice?

lemongrove Tue 21-Jul-20 17:42:04

kittylester

My point was that Whitewave was being emotive. Ruth May was not sacked but dropped from the briefings!!! Huge difference.

I cant be bothered to argue with you because the alternative was Jeremy Corbyn - you all conveniently forget that!

Exactly Kitty ?
I think most Conservative voters are still euphoric about avoiding a Corbyn government to get too worried about anything else just now.Speaking for myself, I just want to get through the pandemic unscathed.
Four years to another GE....

kittylester Tue 21-Jul-20 17:47:28

This Tory voter has been clearing the roof of her disabled son's belongings. Seeing all the things he cant do now that he used to do And, thanking this country for his ongoing treatment, his adapted flat, his fabulous PA and the life he has been able to make for himself living living on benefits.

Gill, do you never have drinks with friends rather than being on gn?

It did look like that JE.

GillT57 Tue 21-Jul-20 17:49:11

Frankly, lemongrove I am more concerned about the health and financial implications of this government and Brexit than I am about covid19. I can shield from covid, I cannot be shielded from the current administration and the sheer madness of Brexit. For the record, I did not ever want a Corbyn government, but I am saddened and angered by the appalling things which are being done by this government, and would have been just as angry had it been a Labour administration. Some things go beyond politics.

GillT57 Tue 21-Jul-20 17:53:42

Nasty and personal comment kittylester, you know nothing of my life, but for your info, I was out having drinks and lunch with friends yesterday, today I am baking, sorting out an insurance claim and intermittently posting on GN, is that ok, or do I have to check with you? I am delighted to hear that life is working out well for your son and that the state is looking after him so very well.

Janpt Tue 21-Jul-20 17:55:12

JenniferEccles You have obviously never experienced the situation so please don't criticize others who have.

kittylester Tue 21-Jul-20 17:56:55

You made the first snide remark about 'drinkies' Gill. I made no comment on your life - merely asked a question.

Could you clarify you comment at the end of your post about my son?

lemongrove Tue 21-Jul-20 17:57:09

Well Gill you’re on the right thread to say how unhappy you are with things.
However, with a goady thread title by the OP nobody can expect many Conservative GN voters to bother themselves about replying to it.
I am really more worried about Covid19 than any aspect of politics, in any case.

GillT57 Tue 21-Jul-20 18:00:53

Could you clarify you comment at the end of your post about my son?

There is nothing to clarify, please don't read anything that isn't there. All because I am livid about the state of the government of this country, it doesn't mean I cannot be pleased that life is going well for your son.

Jabberwok Tue 21-Jul-20 18:01:23

Libertarian?, challenging China in more ways than Hong Kong, standing firm with the bully boys of the EU! treating boatloads of immigrants humanely, unlike France and other EU countries, need I go on?
You are certainly right about the election lemon!! I'm still thanking providence daily for being delivered from a fate worse than death!

Urmstongran Tue 21-Jul-20 18:04:22

Well now that the Russia report has failed to provide Remainers with the nail they longed to hammer in the referendum coffin, they may just have to get used to the fact that Brexit is under way – and if they need any proof the British people want it to happen, the 2019 EU elections and UK General Election should have made that clear.
?

biba70 Tue 21-Jul-20 18:06:22

175 redactions - and a whole annexed document missing - the nails are there- but we have not been allowed to see them.

Time for all opposition parties to insist on seeing them and put together the enquiry the Conservatives are refusing to do.

biba70 Tue 21-Jul-20 18:07:06

The elections were very probably rigged to, and funded from afar.

Urmstongran Tue 21-Jul-20 18:08:07

Oh get over yourself biba70! Talk about flogging a dead horse.

Calendargirl Tue 21-Jul-20 18:10:37

Just come on to this thread.

It’s only a fortnight ago that GNHQ basically asked us to be more respectful and kind to each other, even if we have different views.

Many GN’ers supported this, and yes, we were all going to turn over a new leaf and try and be nice.

Some hope.

Probably why so many just avoid this type of thread, because we don’t all agree, and it just leads to unpleasantness.
