The rule of 6 is fine with me, hopefully it will curtail you spread but we will have to see. I think that the main issue is the lack of credibility the government has at the moment. All self inflicted. I also think that it's disingenuous to blame people for going to pubs and restaurants when this has been actively encouraged by the government. People go to pubs and drink, their guard is reduced this surely can't be a surprise to anyone?

I think there are times when the logic is difficult to follow M0nica and the "rule of 6" really does need challenging.

In my case I'm disappointed that my home-educated grandson would be allowed to go to scouts or football club, swimming lessons or gymnastics because they are "clubs" and are "paid-for out of school activities" but he can't have his weekly science lesson anymore.

It has been conducted since mid February (other than during lockdown) in the socially distanced garden of a friend (whose father is a virologist) - but because it is not run by a business or a charity it comes under the "socialising" rules.

There was seven of them. Three of whom actually live there. I know he will miss this as he always came out bouncing.

The Local Education Authority itself says it doesn't seem fair as their school "bubble" for his age is 300! They are unable to help or advise.

Local politicians also unable to help it seems. But will apparently "raise it".

It won't just be him. All over the country there will be thousands of home-educated children missing out in this way. Yes, some things have gone online, but it feels like an over site to me.

Lucca unless you want to look after more than five GC at any one time the new rules do not interfere in child minding Grandparents.

If the Government take children 11 and under out of the six calculation there will be people complaining that their “darling Johnny is only just 12 so will ignore the rules”

(I have a GC who has just turned 12, I have eight GC in total, just have to get on with not seeing all family members at any one time, it’s not forever (hopefully) )

BUT - it is fine if you want to go shooting creatures. Exemption has been given to all shooting groups and they can continue to have groups of up to 30!!!

Lucca obviously if both Grandparents are child minding they can only have four GC at a time.

Franbern businesses are exempt from the six people rule and as shoots are run as a business that qualify for exemption, as do gyms, restaurants, bars, shops etc.

Yes, just read that, Franbern. I read that Cabinet ministers were sent an agenda item titled "Exemption: hunting and shooting" - with only that one thing on the agenda. When it looked as though there may be objections they cancelled the meeting and just inserted some new text into the regulations.

According to Huffington Post, the entire issue held up the publication of the regulations

So now, “shooting (including hunting and paintball that requires a shotgun or firearms certificate license)” as a “sport or organised outdoor activity” is included in the "up to 30 people" exemptions category.

There seem to me to be a lot of people on this forum who are fed up with a lot of things.

However, in real life everyone I speak to seems to be taking it all in their stride. I do live in the country where there is a lot of room and we always seem to have lots to do. Whether this upbeat attitude will last into the winter is a different story.
Village halls and activities, although compromised by the rules, are beginning to start again.

I’ve no idea if there will be an end to this anytime soon, I doubt it and expect we will be getting a lot more rules that we should obey.
We either get on and do what we are told or take the consequences. The consequences are a lot more deaths. Hong Kong flu killed many more people around the globe than we have seen with this pandemic at a time when the world’s population was much smaller and travelling round the world was not something that most people did.
The action taken by governments then was practically nothing.
Should we go for that attitude?

If my two GC total age 11 are counted as one adult (not by their behaviour) then I should be OK!!

Think how many people would lose their jobs if the shooting season was cancelled. These large estates are often in remote places with little alternaative employment. They provide work for game keepers, other estate workers directly, pocket money jobs for beaters and temporary staff needed for each shooting day, then there are hotels, caterers, and lots of other ancillary
services surrounding the presence of extra people in the area.

The also kill hen harriers, and other wildlife seen as a treat to the birds they want to kill.

Killing for sport should never be encouraged.

Burning heather kills valuable insect and wild life. Burning emits hundreds of thousands of tons of carbon into the atmosphere. It dries the peat and reduces its ability to absorb moisture thus encouraging flooding.

It’s ridiculous to defend grouse shooting on the grounds it affects employment. Let’s employ people in the dog fighting and cock fighting industry - there would be. a lot of jobs there. It was argued we couldn’t abolish slavery as it affected people’s livelihoods. If we believe something is wrong, we can’t defend it on economic grounds.

I'd be happy with 6 allowed to meet. In two weeks time our restrictions may be eased to allow 5 people from 2 households to meet. This means OH and I will still not be able to get together with our son, daughter in law and 4 & 6 year old grandsons. We have not seen them since June.

I so agree with Gwynteth. All.this constant moaning and blaming the government! Yes of course mistakes have happened, they have with every government who have had to cope with this pandemic!! Government guidance is
perfectly clear if you bother to read it properly, and perhaps if people had obeyed the guidance during the summer including isolating after foreign holidays, we would 't be in this position! Imagine living in a third world country and coping with this as well as abject poverty? I think we'd have more to worry about than seeing family at Xmas!! Trouble is we are all so spoilt in the West and can't cope with any disruption to our cossetted lives!

The irritation is that the people who should have the answers, simply don’t.

We didn't see our grandchildren for four months! Our daughter is seriously ill having suffered a brain haemorrhage! we couldn't see her in hospital, and finally saw her for two hours last Saturday. She is now shielded, so who knows when we'll see her again or if! I'm certainly not blaming Boris or Matt Hancock or anyone else in government for this calamity, it's just one of those things! I do feel that if only people could have been less selfish during the summer we might not be in this position!

Well I don't find it.difficult to understand, admittedly you do have to keep with the changes but it's not that complicated to work out your particular situation! It obviously changes a fair bit because the situation changes on sometimes a daily basis, hardly the governments fault and they are doing their best. Could anyone else do any better? I very much doubt it!
