Dominic Cummings has left No.10.....

I was initially elated at the news, but now I’m wondering whether it’s spin, to get us all trusting Boris’ judgement...

I also wonder whether his very public departure was stage managed. Nazir Afzal, a previous Chief Prosecutor for the CPS, has recently submitted new evidence to suggest that Cummings may have lied over his trip to Durham in April. If a court case is in the offing and all the negative publicity that would raise, maybe Johnson is trying to distance himself from Cummings. I wouldn't be surprised though, if he still carries on advising and working for the PM on the quiet.

Rats, sinking ship - before the Brexit chaos he was much a part of, with his lies writ large on the side of a bus, and Boris' oven-ready deal' before the last election, hits the fan.

His exit was clearly staged and he will probably carry on advising Boris "behind the scenes" as that's why B hired him in the first place as he has so few ideas of his own. Also Cummings was great in the campaigning to get Boris elected and get the Leave vote, but that doesn't mean he's the best person to see these things through. I read that Cummings worked in Russia for a few years and is a great admirer of Putin. Putin's mission has always been to create chaos in the West. Looks like Doms done a good job of that (for him?) Now he's off - having made the mess, before he has to clear it up.

Hurrah! But he's done well for Barnard Castle. What a mess as Brexit looms.

I am seriously worried for Boris......how will he fart without Cummings?......how will he know how or when or why?

I suspect a bit of window dressing for the Tory backbenchers who detest the bloke. That does not mean his influence will not still be felt.

Very pleased that Dominic Cummings has left/been fired if that's true and he's not somewhere lurking in the background, but what really concerns me is that there may be other people in power who have never been elected and aren't even government employees. Why the need for 'Special Advisors', isn't that what parliament is for??

Surely you would have to be perverse in the extreme to do something that was generally acknowledged to be wrong and dangerous simply because someone else had, whoever they might be? A Labour minister travelled on a train in full knowledge that she had Covid. I wouldn't - would anyone else be so cavalier with other people's health? As my Mother often quoted ' If so and so put their head in a gas oven, would you?'

But the sad fact is that they do just that.

Look at the way that the Trumpers have gone about no mask wearing or social distancing because their guru says so.

Look at the vote leave legacy and how much we have shelled out for their pursuit of wealth and the rest of the country can go hang.

So he's gone - things are looking up! Of course, he had to go very publicly, through the front door with his box of possessions, didn't he?

Rosina - unfortunately people have ignored the rules because of Cummings nonsense - I have heard them say it. The "we're all in this together" attitude went down the pan at that point.

I have learned never to underestimate the perversity of the GBP!

I wonder what we are being distracted from.
He shouldn't have been allowed to leave by the front door (and the fact that there were so many journalists there points to his having tipped them off in advance). Plus, his office is not even in No 10, so if there were any doubt that this is a staged performance, the dramatic exit would make me wonder.

Whitewavemark and Luckygirl I do find this depressing - it is always that which is the best option as far as we can see, but inconvenient or difficult, that goes straight out of the window at the first opportunity. In this instance, I do so agree, it's Trump and Cummings who are being made the excuse to do as you please. Perversity rules.

DC, wasn't the only prominent person to break lockdown rules!! Although reading these posts would lead anyone to believe he was! Stephen Kinnock got there first, but no one mentions him!! Ian Blackford was another!! All obscene, not just one!

Did Steven Kinnock play an important part (or even any part whatsoever) in formulating the rules that we were all supposed to be following?

No he (kinnock) isn't important, but he comes from a high profile political family and is married to a senior politician, so really should know better!!

And this is relevant how? I’m actually able like most other posters to disapprove of more than one persons rule breaking at once. Clever eh? I also know that the DC fiasco ( error of judgement Bernard Castke ??) was somewhat more complicated than your airbrushing admits and that his position is not directly comparable to that of an opposition MP.

I didn't spot this, but it was pointed out to me. Cummings, supposedly sacked- left with his security tag still around the neck. Staged, and badly at that ;)
