New EU Treaty - a good deal or not?

I thought this deserved its own thread. This deal is about to be announced and I’ve just heard Farage on the radio claiming it will be sellout. Trying to stir the pot already. Just wondered how it will be spun. There will be a lot of relieved businesses and relief that there is no deal at least.

No. I’ll always be a remainer !

GrannyGravy13 Mon 28-Dec-20 10:44:41

These figures took less than a minute to find, regarding UK financial services GDP

I don’t have faux outrage about the deal. I just can’t understand why services (which produce 80% of our GDP blah blah blah) hasn’t been negotiated yet.

Because the EU have all the cards and is a powerful negotiator.

That’s not GDP

The brilliant thing about being out of the EU is that Boris, Sunak, Gove et al plan to introduce innovative ways of doing business, levelling up (they want to keep the that Red Wall not hand it back to Starmer in 3 years!).

If we just carried on as before what would be the point of Brexit?

We are about to embrace change. That’s the whole point of it all!

Nezumi65 Mon 28-Dec-20 10:54:07

Here’s the services contribution to GDP

GrannyGravy13 Mon 28-Dec-20 10:54:14

“It is the Financial Services share of UK total economic output” Source statistica 2020

You seem to be arguing against something I haven’t said.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 28-Dec-20 10:57:24

If you are referring to me Nezumi65 I have only posted my source of information, no argument?

I am totally unclear why levelling up could not be done pre-Brexit.

Barely a deal Terrible for fisherfolk and seed tattie farmers

Nezumi65 Mon 28-Dec-20 11:04:39

My concern about the red wall is if he tries to keep the votes by flag waving rather than investment in poor communities.

We’ll see.

Rejoiners now, Lucca grin

EU fans “squeaking “. “Crowing”. And “parroting “. Apparently....

banging about - keep the list going.

It is bullying language, used by certain people instead of putting up a good argument. By internet posses and bully gangs. On a Grans Forum, it really should not have place.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 28-Dec-20 11:19:37

There has never been a group of posters more ganged upon than those who admitted to voting to leave the EU or the worse sin ever on the political threads - to have voted Conservative!!!!

Anyone doubting the above should perhaps read again some of the past ^Brexit Threads-

Urmstongran Mon 28-Dec-20 11:35:08

BREAKING NEWS:
Just confirmed in the Indy -
EU signs off the Brexit deal.
?

Kandinsky Mon 28-Dec-20 11:36:47

All this arguing is pointless, we’ve left!
It just seems like hardcore remainers want to keep the arguments going with leavers - they won’t be satisfied until every leave voter whacks themselves on the bottom with a great big stick ( a’la Basil Fawlty ) for being so silly & reckless.

Just give up fgs, it’s over, it’s done.
Yes I know some MP’s have moaned about the EU for decades, but you never had intense discussions about it on Internet forums, never.
You will clearly never be happy until we’ve rejoined, so start a ‘rejoin’ party!
Nigel Farage & UKIP were the reason we left the EU, and like it or not, Farage was ( is ) very charismatic - people warmed to his ‘say it as it is’ personality & agreed with him.

You need a strong ‘personality’ and really good arguments for rejoining ( not that we will for years - if ever )

Wrong sorry, that’s just the usual whinge from Tory voters when questioned.
Everyone is welcome to vote how they like express their views etc
I like to read these threads and am always impressed by the knowledge displayed but admit to getting a tad irritated by “sound bites”
I was merely amused by the bird imagery in lemongrove ‘s post.

What arguing, Kandinsky? We're trying to discuss the Trading Partnership deal.

^ Farage was ( is ) very charismatic - people warmed to his ‘say it as it is’ personality & agreed with him.^

Such a shame that it was nothing but a load of racism and whopping great lies.

Lucca Mon 28-Dec-20 11:44:58

There are many things in history that are “over” and “done” but continue to merit discussion surely ?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 28-Dec-20 11:46:13

Lucca constantly being asked to explain ones vote, day in and day out by the same individuals could definitely be described as bullying but I for one just ignore it as do many other posters who voted leave.

Galaxy Mon 28-Dec-20 11:47:05

Kandonsky fortunately you dont have the power to tell people what they can talk about.

Lucca Mon 28-Dec-20 11:49:57

I for one.....ok. Heat and kitchen spring to mind.

Smileless2012 Mon 28-Dec-20 11:51:13

That is good news Urmstongransmile
