Obviously, the Oprah interview with the Sussexes.

I will because I want to hear it straight from the source rather than media spin/interpretation so that I can comment later on what I saw and heard, when discussions start up as they surely will.

However, I don’t think they should be doing an interview at all (I felt the same about Diana and Charles interviews) these things end up backfiring against them.

Actually although I disagree fundamentally on a number of issues with trisher, she very rarely offends me. Quite bizarre advice there.

Anniebach Tue 09-Mar-21 15:54:16

Yes trisher knows all about the lives of all who post here.

Callistemon Tue 09-Mar-21 15:56:23

All I'm trying to say is don't take it too seriously, and let it get you down, whichever side of the fence you're on.
It's nor getting me down, Fanny

But I do think people tend to forget this is about real people, it's not Corrie or Eastenders. They may live what appear to be gilded lives but everyone is staring into their gilded cage with an opinion, some of it just vile and nasty.

Being Head of State is not romantic either, as people living overseas may think. It's a job that has to be undertaken with support. Even if we didn't have a Monarchy willing to undertake the burden, someone who is apolitical would have to do it and you can bet they wouldn't want to be doing the job from leaky old offices, entertaining in draughty old state rooms - we'd be forking out far more money for a Head of State.

Any suggestions?

Callistemon Tue 09-Mar-21 16:02:13

I hope they are both happier now and I do hope they have had some help to enable them to move on and build a happy family life.

I agree, trisher but without the need to whinge about how hard done by they are and the slagging off of the rest of the family.
People condemned Samantha Markle for being unkind about her sister - but it's beginning to look as if she, who knows her well, may have been giving us a glimpse of the true version of Meghan after all.

I think it's interesting that the people who condemn M&H draw parrallels between their own family life and this couple's actions. I think they should examine carefully how much of their criticism of these people they don't really know, is actually things they are unable to say to their own family for one reason or another.
I think they were possibly seen as an unacceptable threat to the popularity of Will & Kate, so they had to become the "bad Royals". I hope they are both happier now and I do hope they have had some help to enable them to move on and build a happy family life.

I think you could examine carefully your assumptions about other posters, and perhaps while you're at it you could consider carefully whether the offence you cause is deliberate, or an artefact of your own subconscious motivations.

I haven't actually"assumed" anything, there are people condemning M&H, there are people drawing parallels with their own family life. I simply asked them to examine their motives
If it causes offence so be it. The appropriate response is I think "If the cap fits"
As for my subconcious, leave it out of this, it's much too complicated and dark for GN! grin

Luckygirl Tue 09-Mar-21 16:12:21

I am unable to get my head round the sheer venom that these two fellow human beings induce. They are not Hitler, or Stalin.

It is as if there is a collective indignation that these people are simply human and have failed to fulfil the fantasy.

They were entitled to have their say, after all the dreadful things that the media have said about them.

GagaJo Tue 09-Mar-21 16:14:23

Luckygirl, SO well said.

Callistemon Tue 09-Mar-21 16:16:24

The same goes for every Royal, Luckygirl
As I pointed out previously, there have been dreadful stories printed in the media over the years about all of them.

LauraNorder Tue 09-Mar-21 16:17:53

Luckygirl, you’re right they’re not Hitler or Stalin but they have dropped a hell of a bomb on the palace.

Ilovecheese Tue 09-Mar-21 16:24:17

I have never found trisher to make personal offensive remarks, just give a different viewpoint.

I feel the same as Luckygirl when she says "I am unable to get my head round the sheer venom that these two fellow human beings induce. They are not Hitler, or Stalin."

NellG Tue 09-Mar-21 16:24:21

trisher yes, you have caused offence. I thought you had more about you than to take so much pleasure in it.

Ellianne Tue 09-Mar-21 16:32:27

during lockdown they (the Cambridges) did this whole bleating performance about how difficult it was for them to home school and we all must battle on - or some other rubbish.
Maybe Jane all this is because the younger generation as a whole are far more vocal about their struggles, their mental health etc. The Sussex and Cambridges are just product of their times.

JaneJudge Tue 09-Mar-21 16:35:49

tbf I am not much older than William (just a few years) and two of my children are in their 20s. As I said I think I am just intolerant atm (maybe perimenopausal confused)

Ellianne Tue 09-Mar-21 16:46:33

flowers hang in there Jane.

varian Tue 09-Mar-21 18:06:29

I suspect that William and Kate talking about home schooling was an attempt to identify with other parents across the land.

I'm sure they could have delegated any home schooling to staff in a way most other parents never could but they probably did put some time into it and just wanted to express solidarity with ordinary folk.

I've done a bit of home schooling of my grandchildren at a distance by zoom and have really enjoyed it, but my grandchildren are all older than the royal children and are very competent online, which is bound to make it easier.

M0nica Tue 09-Mar-21 18:27:59

Luckygirl it is their hypocrisy. Saying they are leaving the formal RF and its relentless media interest to live a private life - and then it is made clear that this private life is for sale to the highest media bidder.

They are trying to have their cake and eat it. Their combined fortunes are already sufficient to buy themselves a good sized house with plenty of land and to then live off their investment income. Instead they have chosen to buy an expensive and opulent estate in the heart of California filmland and are peddling themselves and their (royal) lives to anyone who can afford it.

JaneJudge are you feeling this way because not many people have asked if you're ok?

LauraNorder Tue 09-Mar-21 19:35:47

Yes M0nica I think you’ve summed up the reasons so many of us are finding it difficult to show sympathy.

LauraNorder Tue 09-Mar-21 19:36:51

V3ra, ?
