Anyone watching this now? He really does talk the talk doesn’t he. Has just stated that no health worker has died due to lack of PPE. At least Sarah Owen is now giving him a good grilling.

It’s humiliating for both their spouses, and very hard on their children too that it’s come out in this way though, however they deal with the aftermath. I really hope it isn’t true that an 8 year old was woken up to be told by his dad that he was leaving, he will never forget that if it is, so little compassion for him.

Kali2 Sun 27-Jun-21 13:37:53

Yes, poor wife and even more so, poor kids.

For me now, the big question is 'how and why'- someone, some people, have been sitting on this footage for a while- before deciding to suddenly 'ou' it. Who knew, who sat on this for quite a while. And why- what was their motive? Money, revenge, politics- or ??? This footage did not suddenly appear out of the blue! Did Johnson know? Who else? And why was it suddenly released? So bizarre that it was 'sat upon' for quite a while. Blackmail?

The attraction of MH doesn't come into it! I mentioned that I was flabbergasted to see people on Mumsnet commenting that they fancied him. It isn't the "attraction" (although it's hard to believe!) but the hypocrisy that is the problem.

My main issue is with the hypocrisy of him telling us all to distance when he clearly wasn't.

Apparently power makes all men irresistible.

Can't remember where I read this.
One study involved photos with different info about the various men. They mixed up the info/images and got different results.

Kali2 good points. How secure are our government offices? Sounds like a good overhaul is needed.

MerylStreep Sun 27-Jun-21 17:38:49

At least we are now going to have a health minister who is a favour of ‘opening up the country’
Sajid is very popular with the travel/ business industry at the moment. Good choice, Boris.

MayBee70 Sun 27-Jun-21 18:28:21

You are joking of course?

Kali2 Sun 27-Jun-21 18:40:53

No MayBee, I am sure she is not.

Back into lockdown by September?

But tell me. Where does Cummings come into this? I can't think of anyone who hates him more.

varian Sun 27-Jun-21 18:53:59

Gzillions of people hate Cummings

vegansrock Sun 27-Jun-21 19:01:47

Carrie Antoinette is a chum of The Saj ( fingers down throat)

boat Sun 27-Jun-21 19:04:02

I probably expressed myself badly.

I can't think of anyone who hates Hancock more than Cummings.

This is like having some vengeful god raining down blows on the UK. Just when you think things are looking up, along comes another setback...

Of course, 'opening up' is just the thing to do with cases doubling week by week, deaths and hospitalizations up...

Let's see how many people the tories can kill or permanently incapacitate. hmm

Parsley3 Sun 27-Jun-21 19:10:22

‘Opening up’ is not what is needed just now. My friend and her husband have caught COVID from God knows where as they have been following all the guidelines since the beginning and have had two vaccines each. So no ‘opening up’ while this virulent strain is running riot.

It almost makes me start to wonder if the conspiracy theorists have a point ie they’re just trying to kill us off…..maybe Hancock had to go because, just for once he was actually protecting people and trying to prevent opening up. It’s all making m head hurt…..why were these pictures released now when they’ve had them for a while? What’s behind it all??

MerylStreep Sun 27-Jun-21 21:47:23

In your op you infer that Hancock was lying about PPE shortages.
Now, ( today) you think he was a knight in shining armour trying against all the odds to save us.
No wonder your head hurts.

MayBee70 Sun 27-Jun-21 22:05:51

Well, can you explain why this picture has been released now? And someone who wants to open everything up has replaced him? I don’t see any knights in shining armour in this government: only people who are in it for themselves. Even useless health secretaries get some things right and it could be that he was against opening up and the covid recovery group (not to be confused with the European research group) wanted him gone sooner than planned. I hope I live long enough to see what political historians make of this period of time.

Why have extreme views?

Suggesting that Hancock "just for once ... was actually protecting people and trying to prevent opening up" isn't implying that he's a knight in shining armour.

Comments like this certainly do

make my head hurt.

Talk about sublime to the ridiculous, and lack of nuance!

Totally agree MayBee70 - hopefully after a few weeks, Hancock himself will explain what went on behind the scenes.

Oh yes! And we'd trust him to tell the truth wouldn't we! gringrin

MayBee70 Sun 27-Jun-21 22:24:55

Sayid on the news now saying we have to return to normal ASAP. There you have it.

MerylStreep Sun 27-Jun-21 22:26:59

I very much hope that Hancock doesn’t explain what went on behind the scenes. ?
For those with a sense of humour bypass: that was a joke ?

This was stated on GB News last night.

So many people on here seem to be making assumptions about the Hancocks’ marriage.

Maybe things have been going wrong for a long time and the break up may be a relief to them both.
Or not but that’s the point- we don’t know.

Part of me feels a tiny bit sorry for him having all this played out on the public stage, although I can of course understand feelings of anger at the hypocrisy of another ‘one rule for them and another for the rest of us’ incident.

Anyway it’s done and we now have Sajid back. I am hopeful he will be up to the job, and don’t forget he’s a man of principle who resigned rather than being forced to get rid of a number of his aides a while back.

Agree with you, boat. There is a fishy smell to all this.
