Well it had to be done, so I’m doing it. It’s in the news this morning that Prince Andrew is being sued in New York by Virginia Roberts for having underage sex with her when she was seventeen. Will there be a successful outcome for her?

Whatdayisit Wed 11-Aug-21 14:15:58

Maybe he could do some gardening for HM as she was asking for volunteers to help with the weeding at Sandringham.

Blossoming Wed 11-Aug-21 14:17:06

To all the people whining on about ‘She hasn’t sued an American who raped her’.

Jeffrey Epstein, American, rapist and serial abuser.

Ilovecheese surely no charity would want to be associated with him.

I was thinking more along the lines of actual work like handing out parcels at a food bank, anonymously, not putting his name on a letterhead.

Alegrias1 How do you know that Prince Andrew isn't doing charity work anonymously? Even the highly educated superior people on GN don't know everything, although I'm sure that they believe that they do.

Whatdayisit Wed 11-Aug-21 14:31:44

Well maybe Oxfam would have him with their unsavoury activities in disaster zones.

I don't, he may well be doing that. Good for him if he is. We'll call it atonement. If he's handing out food parcels as suggested by Ilovecheese he could do it wearing a mask then nobody would know it was him.

Except the security detail would be a giveaway, I guess.

That doesn’t feed the narrative of a money hungry opportunist though, does it

Although the RF don't seem to be aware of this fact, you can do charity work anonymously and not be named, or photographed shaking hands with people.

He could set up a nice organisation that decides where all his vast fortune gets distributed. Then in 40 years people will say, he turned his life round, didn't he?

I know I'm dreaming....wink

In some ways this is what Profumo did (not that I'm suggesting that PA can or would)

^….the security detail would be a giveaway……

Does Andrew still have paid for security? Princess Anne only has it when she’s doing a royal engagement, likewise Sophie and Edward. None of their children have paid for security, although Andrew kicked up a stink when it was withdrawn from his daughters. I believe he pays for their security himself now, but Sophie and Edward’s and Anne’s children don’t have security at all if I remember correctly.

Parsley I am sick of reading ‘ asking why she is only naming
Andrew as if that let’s him off’

Asking about one of the Kray twins doesn’t mean one thinks the other twin is innocent, it may for you but not for me.

I haven’t asked about any Kray twin so what may be for me but not for you? Andrew is involved and he should be ashamed of himself.

“If the Queen upheld high moral standards and defended probity in public life, she'd order her son to meet the FBI in London to answer questions or catch a flight to New York.

The royals have successfully lobbied to be exempted from the Freedom of Information law, to avoid millions of pounds of tax, to secure more generous funding through the Sovereign Grant and to give them huge commercial advantages.
Time that all stopped don't you think?

Stop the secrecy

Scrap the consent law.

The Duchy of Cornwall is a major commercial enterprise. It has significant advantages because Charles has secret access to cabinet papers and ministers, and the right to insist laws are changed to suit his interests. How can anyone defend that?

MissAdventure Wed 11-Aug-21 22:29:57

I think this is all going to be nearly swept away and never spoken of.
It'll be interesting to watch this unfold.

This is the kind of royal family story that interests me.
All if it; the rumours, the facts, the twists and turns.

Well, I misread that link:
"Prince Andrew allowed 300 year old bodyguards"

It really is time for bed.

Very well said and very true ????????????

maddyone Wed 11-Aug-21 23:08:58

Thank you for the information trisher, I had wondered about that. The Queen should not have done that in my opinion, but unfortunately she didn’t ask me. I don’t think Andrew deserves paid for security since he’s not doing royal duties any longer.

I am no admirer of Prince Andrew, we have naval friends who have spoken of his naval career and his unpopularity with crews and officers he worked with because of his arrogance and ignorance.

However, an investigative team in the DM, not one of his warmest supporters either, have suggested that not everything in the court case is quite as claimed and witnesses have come forward to throw doubts on parts.

We can only wait and see what comes up in court. Both parties will have good lawyers.

Dennis Nilsen was jailed in the 80’s for the most horrific crimes. His mother was asked why did she regularly travel from Scotland to visit him, she replied - he is my son.

If Windsor ignores the courts, he will be subject to a default judgement which will be upheld throughout the world.

eazybee Thu 12-Aug-21 08:56:42

Virginia Guiffre has named six other men for 'molesting' (my word) her: a hedge-fund manager, two lawyers, a politician, a scientist and a model agent; none of them are known here which is why there is little interest in the press. Their names were revealed after she won the right to unseal court documents, previously used to gain compensation from Epstein and Maxwell; the revelations were followed by Epstein's death the next day.
I gave up attempting to make sense of the various accusations and court cases as the American legal system is so different from ours, and no one involved, including Prince Andrew, Maxwell, Epstein, Guiffre and all the lawyers appears to have any sort of moral standing. Prince Andrew has ruined himself by his association with Epstein; he and Virginia Guiffre are casualties of his sordid world.

25Avalon Thu 12-Aug-21 08:57:18

Why has he been stripped of his titles, why is he no longer doing public duties if he is snowy white? Guilty or not he kept very insalubrious company, company that no decent person would want to be associated with.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 12-Aug-21 09:00:37

Windsor a casualty!!

People are casualties as a result of people like Windsor.

She also expressed abhorrence at her son’s crimes, her deep hurt inside for those families he had destroyed and her incomprehension at what had happened.
