That's nice. Some hurdles are insurmountable. Maybe you just didn't meet any. Positive thinking doesn't actually mean that anything is possible. Or maybe your company, alone of all those in the world, has never met a real hurdle.

Like the one I worked in, which found itself unable to recruit suitably qualified staff in the UK after Brexit and has moved to the EU, resulting in 100 UK redundancies.

My husband's business has lost work because of Brexit too, I posted about it on another thread. Whilst I'm pleased some businesses haven't suffered, it's a bit trite to play out the I'm not affected, I alright attitude when you know others have been affected.

He has been offered several permanent roles in Europe too since Brexit and I think had he been younger and our lives less complicated, we may have gone. So I can see what may happen with skilled workers too - just from our perspective

Our new double glazing windows have been on order for a month now and deliver is constantly being put back.

Now they think possibly November.

If you heard this about where you live Whitewavemark2 then I can't dispute it for your area. I accept there are news reports of such but it is not everywhere.

We've been building our new home on and off for four years. Six months ago our main building suppliers, that cover the whole of the southwest, emailed us to say there would be delays and restrictions on certain items. They put the reason and blame for it on Covid.

I picked up our allocated 10 bags of cement the other day. Normally it is delivered but they currently have a shortage of drivers due to isolation and the demand has soared hence the restriction on how much each customer could have. Apart from waiting 10 days for 2 more lengths of drainage, we've had no delays and no drastic shortages.

Construction industry in southwest is booming and it couldn't do that if there were drastic shortages of building materials.

It's demand causing the shortages and lack of drivers, due to isolation, causing delays.

Yes, it is! My part of Essex depends on pharmaceuticals, IT and Cambridge university. Many of the pharma companies weren't awarded new EU contracts and some have relocated to EU countries. The university has lost funding too and is experiencing difficulties attracting EU postdocs.

Just come and stay here. Bring an open mind. You can't actually be a Scot yet, (much to DH's annoyance, he wants to be one) because we have no formal international identity. But if you live here, and want to be Scottish, we'll regard you as a Scot.

muse you are building your new home very slowly by the sound of it - we have a relative who has a company doing various building projects - new builds and conversions - they are having enormous difficulty getting normal building supplies of all sorts. This has seen one of the building companies he uses go under and luckily for the workforce he diverted personal funds from something he wanted to do to keep the men paid and in work.
It is a problem for many companies - just be thankful you can obviously be delayed a bit with no real hardship to yourselves.

Building materials are being rationed around here, the big house builders seem to be less affected I guess they have long term contracts in place with suppliers. Or in some cases actually owned by the big suppliers.

Don’t forget that full Brexit doesn’t kick in until January.

Still no milk

Have you never heard of almond milk WWM2? It's all the rage at my local Waitrose! Nobody will starve!

Shouldn't drink almond milk or eat almonds. All those orchards in California that are soaking up water desperately needed by the "economic migrants" who work in them in blazing heat.

Oat milk is better than almond milk in tea and coffee, especially the barista one which can be foamed up. Oats are U.K. crop and is being produced in the U.K. Some dairy farmers are now switching to producing oat milk because of the demand

I'm allergic to almonds

I've been waiting since June for French doors to be fitted. The company are unable to get parts due to Brexit and Covid. The hope now to be able to fit them in October, but that seems only a hope rather than a promise.

Our nearest big DIY store is Wickes about 40 miles away. They have a list of items they are unable to get posted up outside the store. There are about 40 items on it including plaster and cement. It's been like that since June.

My local supermarket has shortages of everything from olives to cereals.

I live in the South West.

My DIL is a vet and the last year has really affected her whole persona. She is incredibly stressed by the shortage of staff in her practice and now has to do even more within the 20min appointment slots, including taking the payment, as apparently the reception staff are just not there.

There are shortages and, although those who voted for Brexit say it isn't true, you only have to look at the increasing number of jobs being advertised outside pubs and restaurants as an example. My local pub needs a chef, a front of house manager and bar staff! Others are the same.

Twitter is full of pictures of empty supermarket shelves because we need lorry drivers. We are ten thousand short because the Europeans have left our ungrateful little island.

Very soon the Government will have to come clean and then it will be clear as day to everyone, even Brexiters, that this was a huge mistake.

If only it was only those who voted for this mess who suffered the consequences, but we're all in it.

Maybe if Remoaners hadn't delayed Brexit for 4 years after the referendum we would be past the initial expected disruption well before the pandemic raised its head.

My company is only still working during this #BrexitDisaster because we prepared months in advance, (and continue to do so) don’t believe anything government says, and have invested heavily in stock reserves. But things still go wrong beyond our control. Brexit is unsustainable.
