Now is the winter of Britain’s discontent

Day after day there are articles like this in the worlds press.

It is quite disgusting that people don't even know or, it appears care, that in most cities poverty remains over-represented in inner locations and wealth in the outer suburbs. Low wages have always been an issue in York. So shall we laugh about that?

Johnson will only make the poor poorer - that's what the Conservatives do. It would be a good guess that he hoped he would be able to tell them he is saving them by the run-up to the next election - even though he is the thief of their ability to survive.

Apologies * denbylover*. As I stated, "smug" refers to our good natured family competitiveness as to which of us has the better life. Those in NZ usually win out!
I hope you are able to open up soon.

denbylover Sat 02-Oct-21 20:37:27

Thank you Josianne. Apologies from me as well, I misunderstood. If your family are in the Auckland region then yes, they will be getting a bit fed up with the present situation. PM to review this week re Alert Levels but with new cases coming to light up there, who knows ??‍♀️. Huge push now to become vaccinated, that seems to be the light at the end of the tunnel. Best wishes.

I’m hoping there will be no turkeys available.....then we can have beef or ham.
Have got my Ocado Christmas slot ( smug mode) and no delivery charge, yippee.

Agree lemongrove!
If turkey was so delicious we’d eat it more than once a year.
?

Kali2 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:25:55

gree, I don't like turkey either.

There should be plenty of pork available, cheap ... gammon perhaps.

No excuses from me, I will try and find the entire interview.

I have found and read the interview.
Johnson was asked what was the measure of levelling up for the people of this country and was asked about cancer outcomes and health....and he responded that his measure was that wage growth, never mind cancer outcomes etc was the key to the policy of levelling up.Which it is!
Just a typical Labour ( Ashworth) ploy to make out that the government ‘doesn’t care about cancer patients’.
Levelling up was always about more money for people living
In the North, not cancer outcomes, but I guess there will be faux outrage.

Alegrias1 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:30:05

Oh dear God.

Have you no shame at all?

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 21:32:07

All’s fair in love, war and politics it seems.

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 21:34:09

I see things as they are Alegrias
A more diplomatic PM would have said ‘ it isn’t about cancer outcomes or health, the policy of levelling up is about wage growth’ but the message would have been the same.

No it is not.

You have no shame, no shame at all. Unbelievable.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:37:11

Mr.Johnson is on Andrew Marr tomorrow.

Alegrias1 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:41:14

Well one thing we agree on Lemongrove, Johnson isn't diplomatic. I mean, its not like he was Foreign Secretary or anything.

He's a crass git with delusions of adequacy, who has no idea that the language he uses is important. But I guess he always has the acolytes to defend him even if he says something indefensible, so he can say what he likes.

Isn't this where you tell me that you don't support Boris, never have, but this is all faux outrage? Well you can have a little snigger, why not, I mean its not like this is anything important.

Pull the other one, its got bells on.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:43:57

Some people have zero self awareness.

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 21:44:56

kali and any others....if your comments become any more personal then I shall have to report them.
This is a politics thread, so keep it to that please.

Kali2 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:49:07

Politics are hugely personal- the comments are about the politics portrayed. But do, if you wish.

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 21:50:41

Everybody knows that Johnson can’t do diplomatic, that’s a given. He will no doubt apologise and explain what he was trying to say to the interviewer that raising wages is his prime policy about levelling up.
It’s a gaffe and will be seized on politically
Johnson would have been better served letting Sunak do the interview....he would have said much the same, but in an oh so
Pleasant and diplomatic way.

Kali2 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:51:30

If you excuse what he said, you become part of it.

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 21:51:48

No kali they are not meant to be personal at all.

PippaZ Sat 02-Oct-21 21:53:50

But that wasn't what he said, was it lemongrove, or the way he said it. You don't see them as they are but as you want them to be.

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 21:54:12

I understand the message, that wage growth is the real aim,
His clumsy remarks will be seized on by the opposition and that’s the real damage.

Kali2 Sat 02-Oct-21 21:57:57

I was told I had I should be ashamed to warn about cancer treating isotopes. Nottingham and others have starte rationning cancer chemo due to shortage of staff, and it seems. shortage of isotopes as they have to come from EU.

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 21:59:23

I have just read the whole interview, and could clearly see what he meant....it’s part of who he is to speak in this way and no doubt he can’t change that, much as he may want to.He has always been gaffe prone. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care about the health of people in this country. He has foot in mouth syndrome yes, but that doesn’t negate the real aim of levelling up by driving up wage growth in the North and encouraging business opportunities there.

Kali2 Sat 02-Oct-21 22:03:07

Not sure here if you are just baiting to get a reaction - or are totally immune to the feelings expressed. Leave you to it.

Hetty58 Sat 02-Oct-21 22:03:31

'gaffe prone'? - a walking, talking disaster, more like!

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 22:09:21

kali I say what I think, no beating around the bush, but try hard not to be emotional and rude or personal to others.
