Title says it all really.

Johnson's Green conversion didn't last long 400 miles for dinner with an old mate...

The worst offender is the obnoxious swede, Greta know all. How does she get around the world if she doesn’t use some form of gas guzzling transport, plus all her followers, they interviewed a couple of young girls in Glasgow last week that had come from New Zealand. Hypocrites every single one of them

They have trains now.

Greta does actually know, if not it all, then significant amounts of it.

Pretty sad to call an eighteen year old girl obnoxious.

I think she’s done more to educate/motivate young people than anyone else in the world (even David Attenborough). She even stood up to Trump.imo she’s inspirational and I admire her greatly. I don’t agree with all the protests that have happened over the past 20 months: not the thing to do in a pandemic imo, but I’m right behind Greta for going to Glasgow. Especially as her followers all wear masks and behave so sensibly. I’m terribly down about what’s happening to the planet but she gives me hope.

Hobbs1 - obnoxious, did you say? Right back at you ...

Good post MayBee

I think it is a shame that Greta Thunberg does not seem to have been invited to address the COP.

Calistemon Fri 05-Nov-21 19:36:25

She was, I believe, varian but chose not to.

Calistemon Fri 05-Nov-21 19:38:10

they interviewed a couple of young girls in Glasgow last week that had come from New Zealand.

Not sure how, as friends from NZ have had difficulty coming here even for a family bereavement.

Perhaps they were here anyway, working or students.

I'm so shocked to hear Greta referred to as obnoxious on here. It's pretty vile stuff to hear a young woman who has devoted her life to a cause millions hold dear referred to in that way.

I've had the privilege to see Greta speak live and she was mesmerising. This tiny dot of a young woman had an immense crowd enthralled with her passion, knowledge and commitment. There were all ages in the crowd but predominantly the group was very young...school children through to 30 years old. The young people adored her. I am so grateful to Greta for being such a positive influence on the people who will be the future of this earth.

Do not let our feeble politicians deter you from caring for the world - it's not about them, or us, it's about the people yet to come.

I admit to being concerned about Greta herself when she first appeared as a campaigner as she seemed too young to take on so much responsibility, but she has matured, seems capable and stronger, and is inspiring younger generations who will inherit this damaged planet.

For info, there isn’t a decoy AF1. There are support planes carrying staff, equipment etc. When the president is on normal official duties he is on AF1. If he’s going to ‘dodgy’ places he’s likely to travel on smaller aircraft, incognito.Personally I think that heads of state are on tight schedules so would need to travel quickly. If that’s what it takes to get them to these important events then fine. As long as they then take action in their respective countries. In the scheme of things aviation isn’t a huge contributor to climate change. How many people moaning are purchasing products that have been imported? How do they think they’re getting here? Before we criticise others are we all carbon neutral? We all play a part in this terrible catastrophe and really should look at ourselves first before we start throwing stones from our glass houses.

Good comments.
It was important to get leaders and negotiators here, and that’s what they did.All the whingeing about planes....should they arrive on pogo sticks?

Calistemon Fri 05-Nov-21 21:02:30

should they arrive on pogo sticks?

Now, that's an idea!

They’re all as bad as another. It was reported lots of them used private jets (I haven’t got numbers, it was reported on SkyNews) and the Japanese had a practice run to ensure they could land at the airport??? Biden and his twenty cars. The royals and their private jets and helicopters. And Boris Johnson and his private jet. Climate change? You couldn’t make it up!

Sorry to correct you, Biden and his 35 cars.!!!

All very well Duch of Cam using cheapo flight, but I'm darned sure she could have done the journey in less than 3 hours with electric escort in an electric SUV? It's not as if they can't afford a Tesla either and boy! They're fast......

Gabrielle56 Sat 06-Nov-21 09:25:37

Personally I don't see the point in ms thunberg and her nagging?! Anyone old Tom dick or Hermione Draper -Fortisque-Richlist-Lazyass can whinge and moan about what's wrong with modern life, but it takes the likes of the young lady Vinisha Umashankar who single handedly invented and eco alternative solar powered ironing station to replace the old charcoal burning version in. India... To show the world what CAN be done, thunberg is all about what's NOT being done, negativity never won any gongs in life literally or figuratively. So I wish everyone would snap out of the fog she seems to engulf them in!!!

Alegrias1 Sat 06-Nov-21 09:31:31

The solar-powered ironing station is fantastic.

If we had 1,000 inventions like solar powered ironing stations the world would still be in a mess.

Greta raises awareness and takes no s***. David Attenborough seem to understand the point of her. Maybe you can enlighten him on why she's pointless.

Scones Sat 06-Nov-21 09:54:45

The point of Greta is that she inspires action. She's inspired me to campaign and change the way I live. Multiply that by the millions she's motivated, inspired and educated from Sidmouth to Sydney and you have a whole world of action and change.

I don't think Greta is hoping for a gong.

If all you hear is nagging then you aren't listening.

Grammaretto Sat 06-Nov-21 15:58:41

Greta is most inspiring and she takes her generation with her which is fab.
My DGC know about climate change - know more than I do and that's how it should be.
Greta is an anagram of great. I'll leave it there.grin

varian Sat 06-Nov-21 17:48:54

Greta has said as much and been more influential than David Attenburgh - and that says a lot

varian Wed 17-Nov-21 17:41:29

This country could do far more to curtail climate change
