Says he is “keen to get my voice back”.

I don’t care who takes over from Andrew Marr because I prefer the Sophie Ridge on Sunday show which is on at the same time on SkyNews. At the moment Trevor Phillips is hosting it as Sophie Ridge is on maternity leave. He’s good too. I’ve always liked him.

Yep! I really like Sophie Ridge.??

Urmstongran Fri 19-Nov-21 21:49:42

Me too. She’s polite, doesn’t interrupt and knows her onions.

I heard Andrew marr on the radio explaining about wanting his own voice. He said “when you join the BBC your opinion organs are snipped off and put in a jar until you leave”. ?

Interesting comment. I would like to hear him expand on it.

I think British politics and public life are going to go through an even more turbulent decade, and as I’ve said, I am keen to get my own voice back.

On a related issue, I read that Dacre has pulled out of his bid for the Ofcom job.

FT reports that Johnson does not want to fan the flame of being accused of further sleaze, because he is again interfering in an independent watchdog.

Dacre denies that Johnson had anything to do with his decision, even though Johnson pulled out all stops by relaunching the appointment procedure after Dacre had been rejected because he was deemed “not appointable” .

BBC presenters are, in the main, scared to say boo to a goose in case they get on the wrong side of the government. Today programme on Radio 4 is a prime example - apart from Nick Robinson telling the PM to stop talking when he was waffling as usual.

Nick Ferrari on LBC wipes the floor with ministers - they must dread going on his daily programme!

I'd like to see Andrew Neil take over from Marr.

I complained to the BBC once about Nick Robertson whom I heard tell a lie about a senior politician I know for a fact it was a lie. I got an insipid response from the BBC about strong lines of questioning, politicians can expect to be questioned, yada yada yada.

A few years later on a documentary Robinson admitted he had "exaggerated a bit" to make the story be a bit more like he wanted it to be.

Wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them.

eazybee Sat 20-Nov-21 10:45:03

That sums it up, 'to make the story more like he wanted it to be'
The BBC is supposed to be impartial, but so many of the reporters are becoming superstars the truth of the report is less important to them than a good story.
The newspapers are the same and each one has a particular slant, which is why when a political person is under discussion I go first to Wikipedia, which is mainly factual, although I know it is amended constantly and is not 100% trustworthy.
They certainly gave clear accounts of the careers of Azeem Rafiq and Owen Paterson, warts and all.

To see the difference in BBC employees opinions you only have to watch the difference in Simon McCoy ( who I love?) now that he is on GB news.

grannyrebel7..

Yes, I listen to Nick Abbot. What a hilarious wordsmith. Underrated.

DD worked for the BBC for some years. Her opinion of it and its operations is scathing.

maddyone Sun 21-Nov-21 10:32:18

Where do I find LBC? Is it television or radio? I’ve never watched/listened to it, but lots of people say it’s very good. It’s time I started I think.

FannyCornforth Sun 21-Nov-21 10:35:56

It’s radio Maddie, get in on DAB but you can also get in on a TV channel on sky, virgin and free view.
Catch up via Tune-in.
Google LBC to see the schedule.
I’ve listened to LBC almost constantly for over a decade.

Well! I shall miss him. I like the fact that he politely ensures that his question is answered without a load of waffle.

henetha Sun 21-Nov-21 10:39:03

I've watched Andrew Marr for years and always liked him.
But lately he really doesn't like anyone finishing their sentence, does he.
I too would like to see Andrew Neil take over, Riverwalk. Controversial maybe, but he is always interesting.

maddyone Sun 21-Nov-21 10:39:48

Thanks Fanny.

FannyCornforth Sun 21-Nov-21 10:46:54

You’re welcome Maddy, I’m sure that you will enjoy it very much smile

maddyone Sun 21-Nov-21 10:48:38

Not today though Fanny as I need to stop wasting time on Gransnet and get a wiggle on as I have family coming for lunch. Next week I’ll have a listen.

MerylStreep Sun 21-Nov-21 10:56:00

Here you go. Have a listen.

Andrew Marr certainly gave the shadow Home Secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds, an easy ride on his show this morning!

He asked several questions about the government's failure to tackle illegal immigrants crossing to the UK, asking what Labour would do.

All he did was criticise the government's inaction, and failed to suggest a reasonable alternative. He was allowed to waffle on with nothing credible to say, for practically the whole interview, with few interventions by Marr.

Tinydancer Sun 21-Nov-21 11:27:41

varian

LBC is going from strength to strength.

I started to listen when Eddie Mair moved over from the BBC to do the 4pm-5pm slot and have since discovered Sheila Fogarty, James O'Brien and others. Highly recommended for anyone who likes to hear a variety of viewpoints.

I couldn't agree with you more varian. These three are a breath of fresh air and appear to have given thought to their opinions and questions.
As for being the same as GB news I would say the complete opposite.

Gabrielle56 Sun 21-Nov-21 11:33:56

Robinson? Smug ineffectual bigheaded
Keunssberg? Opinionated lacks balance arrogant.
There are few if any journalists capable of conducting a balanced incisive political debate or Interview nowadays, they all seem hell bent on making their 'name' rather than doing a decent job! I was über impressed with Charlie Stayt on BBC breakfast the other week grilling squirmy Rishi Sunak about the state of things including the UC snatch back! He was calm decisive and make Sunak lose his s**t! So much so that he was still bleating on about the interview ages after trying to persuade us that he wasn't taking but giving! ......saddo. Charlie was magnificent Mr cool!

Daisend1 Sun 21-Nov-21 11:39:12

The Andrew Marr hour was the only programme that would get me out of bed at nine am on a sunday morning. Not a fan of Laura K so that's another breakfast programme off my list
Haven't we already lost * BBC* Breakfast Louise Minchin ?. Whose next sad

Theoddbird Sun 21-Nov-21 11:45:07

His interviewing technique has become way more forceful than it used to be. I used to watch years ago but not anymore. He does not let people talk...he never gives them a chance to answer questions without without butting in.

Nell8 Sun 21-Nov-21 11:51:05

I think Andrew Neil is wonderful at his best. Unfortunately nowadays he tends to get rattled and flushed in an argument which makes him an easy target for scrappers like Boris.
