If Peppa Pig is now the symbol of global Britain, what have you got to lose Mr Farage?

He says in the Telegraph just now:

“ ...as the official number of arrivals for 2021 heads towards 25,000 (we still don’t have the Home Office figures for Tuesday 16 November) it does seem as though something is beginning to change. Reports are circulating that the Prime Minister has become fretful. As well he should. On his watch, the mantra of “taking back control” of our borders has descended into farce.

The biggest problem Boris Johnson faces is not the sheer impracticality and cost to the public purse of housing, clothing, feeding and giving free healthcare and education to huge numbers of people who have chosen to leave the safety of France to come to this country. Neither is it the daily expense of conducting the Channel operations. Instead, it is the threat to Britain’s national security and the safety of its citizens. Johnson is ultimately responsible for guarding his people. This is the sacred duty of any prime minister. It should override all others. Yet the present occupant of 10 Downing Street seems to have abandoned his post.”

I agree Urmstongran it beggars belief doesn't it and it was only the quick thinking of the taxi driver that saved women and children being blown up, killed and maimed and some make excuses for them.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 14:57:02

Actually, here’s a thought. At the very least, ALL expenses to do with housing, feeding and healthcare for these aspirant migrants should be taken from our foreign aid budget. Not a bad idea, the more I think about it.

Yes we know that vegansrock. Blair flung open the doors to the EU migrants remember?. Now it’s the turn of the people traffickers. Come one, come all ...

You mean those EU migrants who did the jobs which are currently vacant and nobody wants to do?

In effect, it already has been.

Has it not occurred to you that it would be better to spend money in the countries people are trying to leave?

The very ones growstuff. The ones that are attracting higher wages now to entice British workers. Hauliers for instance. Builders. Painters and decorators. They are able to be more picky these days and can charge more for their work which, in turn, will attract others, once word gets round See a pattern developing here?

Heartbreaking news in the Guardian just now:

Reports of at least five deaths after French interior minister confirms sinking of vessel in Channel

Several people have died after a migrant boat capsized in the Channel, the French interior minister has said.

The AFP news agency reported five deaths as Gérald Darmanin confirmed on Twitter that a boat had sunk in the Channel with several dead.”

It is sad for anyone to lose their lives. Perhaps this madness will stop now risking their lives on dinghies. Sometimes it takes a terrible event to change things.

Alegrias1 Wed 24-Nov-21 16:20:34

Just in case anybody thinks the drowning of 5 people will be enough to stop this. Or even that everyone want to come here for our fabulous hotels and nail bars. Or that the UK is in any way special.

There have already been terrible events, which haven't put people off.

The biggest sectors with vacancies are catering/hospitality and care work.

Your "patterns" are delusional.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 16:36:30

When will this madness end?

Those poor people, in the sea in choppy November waters. How frightened then panicky they would have been.

Laws must be changed.
People traffickers must be caught and imprisoned. When they all bank their money I do not know how they can sleep at night with the knowledge of the despicable trade they all deal in.
Politicians need to be accountable.

Enough is enough.

Apparently It took police/Home office one day to discover that the Liverpool bomber was from Iraq not Syria as he claimed for seven years.

There is no excuse for them not knowing this at the time of his original claim.

He had an Iraqi father and a Syrian mother.

JenniferEccles Wed 24-Nov-21 16:57:50

Don’t forget that other favourite trick which is to claim, often at the eleventh hour to be gay, and then to bleat that they would be persecuted should they be sent back to their own country.

By the way, it’s not just the odd one or two who have decided it might help their appeal if they
‘converted to Christianity’. Vicars have reported a large number stating they wish to convert.

Make no mistake some know all the tricks in the book.

There should only be one way to gain asylum here, and that is the authorised method of application already in place.

This appalling situation of thousands turning up on our shores in dinghies has to stop, and as I have repeatedly said, the way to do it is to break the people smugglers’ business model.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 17:01:23

Latest from the Telegraph on today’s tragedy:

“At least 20 migrants have died crossing the Channel from France when their boat sank off the port of Calais, authorities said, the deadliest single disaster on the intensively-used route.

The French interior ministry said in a statement that French patrol vessels found corpses and people unconscious in the water after a fisherman sounded the alarm about the accident. Police then said in a statement that "over 20" people had died.“

JenniferEccles Wed 24-Nov-21 17:02:03

The tragic deaths of young migrants locked in a lorry about two years ago was shocking, but it seems that the tragedies are now continuing at sea.

Surely there must be a way to beat the people smugglers before more deaths occur?

Kali2 Wed 24-Nov-21 17:27:33

Umg It’s all a joke.

what else can anyone say ...

Maudi Wed 24-Nov-21 17:40:52

Perhaps instead of having a go at Umg you could turn attention to the French, the migrants blood is on their hands. Or is it only the English and the Tory government you have a problem with.

Alegrias1 Wed 24-Nov-21 17:57:47

After hearing all day that the migrants are able young men who are scroungers, telling lies about their age, their sexuality and their religion, forgive me if I find the hand-wringing over the latest tragedy a bit hard to take.

BTW - what did I say that warranted deletion that was worse than all the untruths we've had to read about these poor people?

Alegrias1 Wed 24-Nov-21 18:01:45

Oh - I remember.

Oh, the irony ?

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 18:10:33

Alegrias there’s a distinction here. Yes there may well be young men who are scroungers, telling lies about their age, their sexuality and their religion, crossing to us, some as we know wish us harm.

However, a change in our laws and accountability is what some of us are asking for. To get a grip of this situation.

People coming here (in containers having paid traffickers), some from Vietnam were not fleeing for their lives. They were not asylum seekers. They want to sneak in, live off grid and send money home. They were indeed economic migrants.

The people coming over in rubber dinghies are trying to claim asylum. Which, as you have pointed out, until their applications have been assessed they are allowed to remain.

However, That does NOT mean we wish to hear of them drowning in the cold sea of the November Channel.

I believe Boris is chairing a COBRA meeting tonight on this whole issue.

Someone needs to come up with a plan before more tragic lives are lost.

What did he do that saved anyone? I watched the film and the bomb went off, the driver jumped out of the car and left the door open and ran away. Horrific for him but how did he save anyone from being blown up?

Urmstongran Wed 24-Nov-21 19:34:58

Well that was quick.
Shows what CAN be achieved (catching people traffickers) when there’s a WILL.

“Four people have been arrested in connection with a migrant boat which sank in the English Channel, the French interior minister has said.

Gerald Darmanin said in a press conference that "1,500 people have been arrested since the start of January, and four of them today.

"We suspect that they were directly linked to this particular crossing".

Mr Darmanin's comments were reported live with the use of a translator on Sky News.”
