who would you like to replace him - from either side?

Or is he the best of a bad bunch?

EllanVannin Mon 13-Dec-21 11:45:07

Sadly there are no more " Maggie's " or John Smiths so far as leaderships go sad

chrissy08 Mon 13-Dec-21 11:45:57

We really need a new, better way. A government for the people not profit.

All Richi has done so far is hand out money which is pretty easy. I wonder how he will behave when he has to get really tough and start clawing it
back with much higher taxes etc .

Can you explain why he has to 'claw it back'?

Where do you think the money has come from?

leeds22 Mon 13-Dec-21 11:46:44

Jeremy Hunt or Rishi Sunak - although I voted libdem last time as I wouldn't vote for Rishi as he's a brexiteer. Liz Truss would be so weak and preening as PM.

Sorry that Ruth Davidson went to the Lords.

Alegrias1 Mon 13-Dec-21 11:48:28

Ruth Davidson was never an MP so she's closer to Westminster politics now than she's ever been.

Bluecat Mon 13-Dec-21 11:52:17

Well, I wanted Jeremy Corbyn to be PM and I still do. So there. It is not going to happen but we could have had a PM who actually cared about everyone, not just the rich and powerful.

I am depressed by the news that Priti Patel, a woman with all the human warmth and compassion of an anaconda, is preparing to take over from Boris. Johnson. Who else is there? Gove - Johnson without the clowning. Sunak - austerity. Hunt - NHS privatisation. Truss - seems completely muddled. Rees-Mogg - hell, no.

Jane71 Mon 13-Dec-21 12:27:44

I agree that Jeremy Corbyn seems to be a caring person, but he wasn't a leader was he, sitting on the fence in the Brexit debate. He's a great pressure group politician, like Jess Phillips, but not PM material.
We need someone that the average voter (who are they?) will vote for.

I never thought I'd say this but even Theresa May would be a better option and she was useless - but at least she had some integrity!

Nannina Mon 13-Dec-21 12:36:59

Jess Phillips and Andy Burnham would be my dream Labour team. Struggling to think of any Tory I could trust not to feather their own nest and maintain the old boy’s network when handing out contracts

I’m suffering from some sort of retrospective delusional rose tinted spectacles thing because every time someone in government is replaced I look on the previous minister PM/Minister and wish they were still doing the job. Even Hancock was better than Javid. I draw the line at Gavin Williamson though.

Ooops, and there was me thinking that we already had the muppets doing the job..................

Going very slightly off topic; why do people praise Sunak for furlough pay? What the hell else could any chancellor of any persuasion done? Let people run out of money/have their homes repossessed/starve/smash their way into supermarkets to feed their families? There was no alternative, if the lockdown was to work, and people praising him for his supposed generosity are missing the point. Sunak is charming, smart and smiling, but don't be deceived, he will deliver tax cuts to his buddies and slash state spending, and will use his 'generosity' with furlough pay and the costs of covid19 as an excuse.

The whole bunch are a disaster!

missdeke Mon 13-Dec-21 13:02:25

Could we perhaps persuade Jacinda Ardern to come here?

Granny1810 Mon 13-Dec-21 13:05:27

I personally want to see Pritti Patel as leader of the Conservative party. She would be the hammer to nail the coffin on the party for at least two possibly three terms.

gangstergranny Mon 13-Dec-21 13:05:51

Let's hope for someone with integrity and honesty!

Why integrity and honesty is important?

It is perhaps the most important principle of leadership and dependent on integrity because it demands truthfulness and honesty. ... Integrity means telling the truth even if the truth is ugly. Better to be honest than to delude others, because then you are probably deluding yourself, too.

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 13-Dec-21 13:11:42

Said it before - Jacinta Ardern: a great leader, and a down to earth woman . NZ population is tiny, so she could lead them via Zoom, or set up PCC to lookafter them .

And if was insulting the first time you said it too.

it was insulting.

Tugenhat at a pinch or Mercer I suppose, but realistically given the immediate problems, Jeremy Hunt has to be the best qualified candidate, even it is only a short term solution to get us towards a safer, more robust NHS.

I’d like to see how she controls 66 million ( and counting ?) people as apposed to controlling a population less than the size of London. Good luck with that one.

Alegrias1 Mon 13-Dec-21 13:23:48

That's the point though.

She doesn't control them.

She leads them.
