Definitely politics: catching up with Brexit

There is so much happening that is not being reported, I thought that it would do no harm to get those interested up to speed.

1. UK pays £24 for one Moderna dose. EU pays £1

UK pays £15 for one Pfizer dose. EU pays £10.60

AZ in UK is £2.17 per dose.
In EU it’s £2.15

2. ITV news reporting
Analysis shows Brexit caused £12 billion of lost trade in October

@NicholasTyrone
I see the government has very quietly folded in the fishing dispute with the French. This is Brexit in a nutshell: the UK government makes a big noise, puffs out its chest - and then reality kicks in and a complete cave in ensues. It happens over and over again.

UK trade has shrunk since Brexit while EU thrives -

4. The U.K. is paying 25% tariffs on steel we export to USA. The EU - zero
No level playing field there

Why do people bother to respond to threads like this it’s just the same thing over and over again. It’s only purpose to give certain posters yet another platform for their anti Boris rhetoric. I only looked at it because I don’t want to start wrapping Christmas presents. But on balance I think wrapping presents might be more interesting.

Feel free to get on with your wrapping then. This is a politics thread

this - simple

It’s like Christmas has come all at once.

The strong Brexit supporting constituency has dismissed the one who brought them Brexit and even more joyous news the government has signed a deal for 0.01% boost to the GDP over the next 15 years.

Johnson has caved in and agrees that the ECJ will continue to oversee cases in NI.

Of course it will! What else could do it’s roll?

GillT57 Fri 17-Dec-21 14:51:28

Celebrating the Trade Deal with Australia which has just been signed is like celebrating having a tent after deliberately burning your house down. That's aside from the animal husbandry regulations being considerably lower than the EU demanded, and the thousands of air miles involved compared to trading with the EU. Utter madness, and yes, I am still going on about it after five years.

I’ve been thinking about the result. It took place in one of the most Brexit constituencies in England.

The fact that they were prepared to vote for a strongly remain party suggests to me that Brexit is losing its grip and many people are regretting their vote like the farming community, which has been badly hit.

The UK has abandoned its attempt to strip EU judges of the power to oversee the Northern Ireland Protocol, in another Brexit climbdown.

The U-turn – denied by Downing Street just days ago – would allow the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to interpret the agreement, despite repeated pledges to “remove” its role.

The move comes after David Frost, the Brexit minister, also pulled back from threats to trigger Article 16 of the Protocol, despite Unionist anger over the trade barrier created in the Irish Sea.

URGENT UPDATE FOR BRITISH RESIDENTS IN EU: Following a French Government decision, on 28/12/2021, unless they hold French residency, British citizens are now considered 3rd country citizens and can no longer transit France by road to reach their country of residence in the EU.

Can anyone confirm, this is just temporarily in covid times please?

I would go onto the Channel Tunnel web site. My guess it is because of covid.

Josieann Thu 30-Dec-21 08:11:08

Thanks, fingers crossed because of covid. We use Brittany Ferries and they are always notoriously slow, if at all, to update information. Impossible to plan anything for 2022.

Josieann Thu 30-Dec-21 08:18:02

I feel like I need a crystal ball. Whatever info is good for today may have no relevance tomorrow. At least the change in the pass from test to vaccination is preferable. No one can challenge that.

Josieann Thu 30-Dec-21 08:22:51

How does that work then for the poster on GN who I believe needs to travel back to Switzerland? It's a crazy ruling, Omicron is rife in France anyway, it won't make any difference.. Maybe it is Brexit then?

Josieann Thu 30-Dec-21 08:26:28

Sorry, Whitewavemark2 just thinking out loud on your thread, if that is allowed!

That was never a worry for us as we are both dual nationals with both passports- thanks for asking.

Josieann Thu 30-Dec-21 17:26:27

Phew Kali2, yes I thought of you and just found out on the other thread that you will be home and dry.

Kali2 Thu 30-Dec-21 17:29:37

We normally make a stop over on return home- each time another town to discover as many as we can - but not sure we will be able to this time- so it will be a looooong journey- but fortunately we both drive in turn- and will take a blanket in cas we have to stop for a while for a snooze.

Thanks for caring and asking x

Katie59 Thu 30-Dec-21 17:58:14

Covid is rife everywhere now, there is no point whatever in any precaution except for the vulnerable who should isolate.
The rest, carry on as normal and isolate if you are ill.

So… no masks ? No distancing ? No air filters in schools ?

Not only the vulnerable become ill.

Urmstongran Thu 30-Dec-21 19:06:29

Wishing you a pleasant journey home Kali2. ?

Thank you- off to Surrey for 1 week tomorrow smile

No it isn’t. The French have done a u turn. My GD returned to her home in Netherlands via tunnel on Wed No problems. Some people really do like to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Kali2 Thu 30-Dec-21 20:19:07

Really- that was the official advice given by Tunnel, and Embassies from all over EU- and caused so much stress to many! So keep your montains and molehills- people have been turned away by officials at the Tunnel, fact- and U-turn only happened midday today!!!

And it is not about Covid only- but definitely about Brexit- as it seemed that only UK, as 3rd nationals and non-EU were affected.
