Definitely politics: catching up with Brexit

There is so much happening that is not being reported, I thought that it would do no harm to get those interested up to speed.

1. UK pays £24 for one Moderna dose. EU pays £1

UK pays £15 for one Pfizer dose. EU pays £10.60

AZ in UK is £2.17 per dose.
In EU it’s £2.15

2. ITV news reporting
Analysis shows Brexit caused £12 billion of lost trade in October

@NicholasTyrone
I see the government has very quietly folded in the fishing dispute with the French. This is Brexit in a nutshell: the UK government makes a big noise, puffs out its chest - and then reality kicks in and a complete cave in ensues. It happens over and over again.

UK trade has shrunk since Brexit while EU thrives -

4. The U.K. is paying 25% tariffs on steel we export to USA. The EU - zero
No level playing field there

Can't see any advantages. Perhaps you could tell me one or two please.

!7 million out of a population of 67 million were fooled into voting Leave on one day in 2016, thanks to the huge amount of pro-brexit activity on social media on the day before - originating in Russia and the Ukraine.

Since then most British people have woken upo to the deception and realised that we should have remained in the EU.

In short, Brexit is NOT done, it can't be 'done' as we still have no idea what it will be, in the end.
''Brexit is never-ending

What Brexit really means for the UK is a series of interminable disputes on practically all fronts with its largest trading partner, which has an economy nearly six times larger. Whatever the Brexiteers want to claim about being “sovereign equals”, the EU is a supra-national body with much greater power and weight in the world economy and the UK stands to lose far more in any disagreement, both materially and in terms of its global reputation.

Britain, alone, risks becoming an irrelevance on the world stage.

Brexit has compounded the economic impact of the pandemic at home and, as has been made clear by the new German coalition and is an unwelcome distraction for EU leaders from major global challenges, such as the threat of dangerous climate change and escalating tensions with both China and Russia.

The Brexiteers’ fantasies about “global Britain” are finally coming home to roost. Under this administration, Britain will never be global and Brexit will never be done. We are condemned to never-ending acrimonious negotiations with those who should be our closest friends and allies.''

We have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more. We have asked, politely, again and again - but nope - never ever have been given a list of those amazing advantages.

I do wonder why?

Well at least Rees-Mogg tries- in the most ridiculous, stupid and nonsensical of ways but ...

I wonder how long it will be before we'll see the comedic character Mogg invited by the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation onto HIGNFY?

He was on it a few years ago. Hislop introduced him as ",,The Honourable Member for the 17th century". I too used to find him a subject of humour. I don't now. He is a sneering supercilious fake.

EllanVannin Wed 15-Dec-21 20:00:52

If BJ had been true to his word on Brexit he'd have had it all worked out but the truth of the matter is that he was a Remainer and would have gone with the flow.

His " go Brexit " was a ploy to his Prime Ministership. I've always said this and still believe it so.

EllanVannin Wed 15-Dec-21 20:04:01

I'm afraid I'm a cynic when it comes to politics as there are always ulterior motives in whatever politicians think up.

Urmstongran Wed 15-Dec-21 20:10:05

I don’t find JRM a fake at all.
He is endearingly polite, listens intently and replies with good humour and knowledge of the Byzantine rules & protocols of Parliament.

MayBee70 Wed 15-Dec-21 20:13:14

I think HIGNFY will be more careful which politicians they invited to the show in future given that they kick started Johnson’s political ambitions. I find Rees Mogg chilling….

EllanVannin Wed 15-Dec-21 20:13:53

JRM's a very clever man and I love hearing his " George Sanders " voice grin

Whitewavemark2 Wed 15-Dec-21 20:17:01

?? no one in this country speaks with the sort of upper class drawl that Mogg has cultivated, nor his exaggerated veneer of politeness and insolence. Even members of the RF don’t speak like Mogg.

He is an idiot. In fact you can’t even call him an upper class idiot as he comes from a relatively ordinary background whose parents bought him the start in life that most children do not have. I suspect that he adopted his persona whilst at boarding school to avoid being bullied.

Urmstongran Wed 15-Dec-21 20:17:31

Me too EV!

Kali2 Wed 15-Dec-21 20:18:36

The Madame Bouquet of the political world- at least she was funny.

Urmstongran Wed 15-Dec-21 20:21:51

Yes I agree WWmk2 that his ‘geeky’ persona is cultivated. No matter. He is intelligent. He has a grasp of his brief (no question ever put by the Opposition fazes him!). He takes great delight I think of promoting his old-fashioned gentlemanly behaviour.

Gwyneth Wed 15-Dec-21 20:22:54

Why do people bother to respond to threads like this it’s just the same thing over and over again. It’s only purpose to give certain posters yet another platform for their anti Boris rhetoric. I only looked at it because I don’t want to start wrapping Christmas presents. But on balance I think wrapping presents might be more interesting.

Gwyneth Wed 15-Dec-21 20:24:20

Its no apostrophe!

MayBee70 Wed 15-Dec-21 20:25:32

He’s disgusting. He filibusters to stop important legislation go through. An ability to use verbal diahorrea at will doesn’t necessarily equate to intelligence.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 15-Dec-21 20:30:06

Intelligence and Mogg are not two words that naturally spring to mind??.

So, how DO you think brexit is going?

EllanVannin Wed 15-Dec-21 20:50:14

Nowhere MayBee70.

Feel free to get on with your wrapping then. This is a politics thread

It’s nice they have somewhere to vent about Brexit and Boris with like minded folk.

Yes and I think there are more of us then you might realise.
