Hopefully some leadership on display.

He wants to come across as the new Churchill but has ended up as a Sir Les Patterson lookalike!

yes, he really is!

Peasblossom Mon 13-Dec-21 19:48:24

A thread about Keir Starmers address tonight has become a thread about Boris Johnson.

Oh dear. What does that say about the impact he made tonight

Urmstongran Mon 13-Dec-21 19:52:17

??? Peasblossom!

JaneJudge Mon 13-Dec-21 19:53:59

people are fed up with our alcoholic, sleazy prime minister

MayBee70 Mon 13-Dec-21 19:55:16

Well, there was always more to say about Trump than there is about Biden but that isn’t necessarily a good thing!

I hope there's a big pay boost for the frontline workers who are called out at short notice for these booster vaccinations. This is another huge national effort carried out by these people.

Calistemon Mon 13-Dec-21 19:56:27

But he does lack charisma, which sadly now is what politicians are judged on. Boris has committed a whole raft of acts that lack integrity, but still he hangs on.

He might, but he did appear statesmanlike imo.

I thought he is just what we need.

Urmstongran

It just seemed inappropriate at a time of national anxiety.

What seemed inappropriate Urmstongran?

Ending his address to the nation as he did Alegrias.
It just sounded a bit pompous. We giggled...

That said, fair do’s. He’s a decent man.
‘Ernest’ comes to mind.

Calistemon Mon 13-Dec-21 19:58:33

Sorry - not clear!

Sir Keir - what he lacks in charisma he makes up in being statesmanlike.
Well, he did tonight, I thought.

I agree!

some of you must have awful taste in men if you think boris has charisma and kier starmer has none!

?

It says that Boris’ address was so shambolic last night that people are still unable to get it out of their minds and adjust to a politician speaking to them in a rational way I think. Peasblossom. Boris is on the edge, and I don’t enjoy seeing anybody in that state whether I like them or not.

It would be nice if carers were spared a thought, as well.

they always need to be spared a thought, paid or unpaid

Alegrias1 Mon 13-Dec-21 20:02:53

Thanks Urmstongran

Very true.
Particularly those looking after family members through all of this.

Peasblossom Mon 13-Dec-21 20:04:21

Well, as Gransnet failed to tell me what was in his address, I had to go to Utube.?

He was alright. At least he didn’t umm and er.

I’m just not sure what it was he wanted to say that needed an address to the nation ?

Well any participating GP ‘s are doing very well out of this booster roll out EV. I read at the weekend that they are to be paid £30 for every jab they administer and to facilitate this by making time to so do they can suspend routine checks on the over 75’s. WHILST STILL BEING PAID FOR THOSE CHECKS (that they are no longer doing).

You couldn’t make it up could you? They must have a strong Union .... oh wait ...

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 20:07:25

I think it was a subliminal message, peasblossom.

Peasblossom Mon 13-Dec-21 20:10:00

You mean more about Keir Starmer as a potential PM than about whatever it was he said?

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 20:10:41

Yes! Exactly that. smile

Peasblossom Mon 13-Dec-21 20:12:18

Ok. I can go with that.

I wondered if I was missing something in the actual message.

Elegran Mon 13-Dec-21 20:14:49

Once upon a time, the word "statesman" carried an image of someone who was serious, earnest, knowledgeable, intelligent, incorruptible and, yes, probably a bit pompous. Those were the days!

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 20:14:58

Hmmm...
I think perhaps it will slowly take up residence in peoples minds.
Smart, serious, sincere.
No talking about hairdryer shaped pigs...
No immediate impact as Johnson always sparks off.
A slow burn.

MissAdventure Mon 13-Dec-21 20:17:49

From my family to your family = I'm just the same as you.
All very subtle.
