Start with the extra how many millions in your purse this year...while most of the country is struggling to survive.Thats as good a place as any!!Such a "caring monarch" not!!Such a parasite ,

Mealy mouthed and spiteful She had no choice that she was born to be Queen, but my goodness she has worked hard and steered this country with a devotion not found elsewhere. How many people do you know going strong working at 95. She’s lost her husband of 70 years. Where’s your goodwill to all gone.

Talk about biting the hand that fed you, in the comments! ?

The OP is funny, though I thought the photo on the right was Prof Whitty, until I zoomed in.

Judy54 Mon 20-Dec-21 14:15:26

Oh dear some very sad people on here. Just take it for what it is. Thank you Whitewavemark2 for injecting a little fun into our day. Lighten up people and find some enjoyment in life.

Anniebach Mon 20-Dec-21 14:27:30

Thank you Whitewave for some laughter, bet the Queen
is thinking those words

Elegran Mon 20-Dec-21 15:57:01

Only two really sad people that I can see, Judy54 who can't let a seasonable joke pass them by without a spiteful dig.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 20-Dec-21 16:08:36

Getting back to the OP, I found it very funny ??

Grany Thu 23-Dec-21 11:46:14

You could start mam by doing what a Head of State is supposed to do defend our constitution so not letting liar Johnson get away with his lies corruption.

But queen does not want to defend our constitution. She only does what PM asks her to do.

So the funny but crude joke is on who? hmm

Paddyann's comment is disrespectful to a woman of 95 who is still fulfilling to the best of her ability the commitment she made to serve seventy years ago.

Elegran Thu 23-Dec-21 12:32:11

I won't be watching the Queen's Christmas message (it isn't the Queen's Speech, that is given on the opening of Parliament) as I haven't since I left my parents' home in 1963, but I won't be sending her any hate mail either.

A happy Christmas to all and may the true spirit of Christmas prevail; peace and goodwill to all men (and women), including those we don't like very much.

eazybee Thu 23-Dec-21 15:55:39

Where is the thread about Meghan Markle?

Message from GNHQ: Hi all, we've taken this one down for now - we're not sure it's been started with the best of intentions.

How disrespectful to a lady who has buried her husband this year.

So predictable. Obviously no Christmas spirit at all. Why post nasty snide comments just because you can.

In the photo I saw she was wearing red and had the broach on the other side. Is this an old photo?

Yes it has been doing the rounds for several weeks.

As a modern monarch the Queen can only advise her Government, she reigns but does not rule. I would imagine this is exactly her thoughts, although we shall never know, because they are the thoughts of at least half the population.

Elegran Fri 24-Dec-21 09:53:42

If she did over-rule the leader and spokesman of the elected Parliament of this democratic nation, she would have faced a barrage of criticism. When Prince Charles wrote a letter merely expressing his opinion, he was treated as though he was planning a revolution.

Archaic not modern. So we have a PM with no checks or balances from the Head of State bit like a football match with no referee So she is pointless and powerless.

It's the job of Head of State to intervene when the rule of law in our constitution is broken.

It's not Charles job or the queen's to lobby ministers for what they want but they do. Nor queen's consent prince consent means they can change legislation if it effects their private interests.

Oh I can think of lots of people who are powerless, I would never think of calling anyone pointless

As our Head of State she is as regards holding our PM to account.

Jaxjacky Fri 24-Dec-21 14:56:56

Glad I’m not one of her staff answering that question ??

Elegran Fri 24-Dec-21 15:42:40

The checks and balances that Grany can't see are provided by the lawmakers, (that is the whole of Parliament, which includes the House of lords as well as the House of Commons), the law recorders and dispensers (the justiciary) and the law enforcers ( the police forces)

These three organisations can and do keep the Executive governing body (The Prime Minister and the other Ministers of the Crownwho assist him) from becoming a one-man dictatorship.

When the Executive tries to limit the powers of any of the other branches, they are trying to upset the balance of power - in their favour of course.

This applies to wanting the final say when the justiciary have passed a verdict on an appeal, wanting to prorogue Parliament to stop them debating a Bill which the Executuve to pass, so that a deadline is crossed and it becomes law, and any other legislation that removes a power from another branch to give it to the Executive.

The general public don't see the erosion of the balance until it has become law and then by protesting against it they risk arrest.

Confrontational party politics and the whipping system lead to fights being about party advantage, not about what is best for the country and the diverse people in it.
